I personally don't care if the lid latches. The cup holder could be removed if you want to close it up.

I personally would not care about the lid thing either, but I have a feeling others may care. I want to design this in a way that keeps everyone happy. That may not be an option. Version 3.0 will tell me if I can do this AND allow the lid to close.

Mine arrived recently. Overall they work good. Mine had a bit of play for and aft, but after adding some non-slip grip pads they are solid. Overall good work!

These 1x4" strips are the perfect size for the rear of the inserts.
Taking this foam one step further, I had 2 mismatch self drilling screws with nice flat heads and removed the factory cup holder and zip zip... 100% better than I expected. No interference when installed and holds my tall hydroflask. Pic shows the nice screw. The other well, looks bad but, works.
Lid latches perfectly BTW

I'm starting to get discouraged on this project. I'm on to version 6.0 and STILL can't close the lid. I have to keep a minimum depth in order to keep stability in the cups while driving. I'm just not sure I can do this and keep the open/close function of the lid. I will do one more attempt and if I'm still not successful then I'm giving up and going a different direction where the lid is not considered. Version 7.0 is printing now. I'm within a few 1/1000s of an inch away from the lid functioning but the tolerances to make this work are getting a bit insane.

Don't Lexus drivers drink that Fiji water in square bottles?

No, we sit in the backseat and get fed grapes by our servants while some mere mortal drives the vehicle!

I'm also in the camp of not caring whether the lid closes.

Given the option of a shallow cup holder with a closing lid and a tall cup holder and no closing lid I’d pick the second option.

Whats the easiest way to pop out the center cupholder assembly?

Would the option to remove and replace the whole cup-holder assembly be better?
That is probably the path I will go if I can't make this work with the lid.

In two years of owning my LX I have closed the cup holder lid once, and that was for about 10minutes. I always have drinks and/or random crap in it.

In other words function over form for me on this one. I'd rather have a much better than OEM cup holder solution and never be able to close the lid. Or even better have a completely revised, much better than OEM solution and just replace the entire assembly with aftermarket.

Another vote for not worrying about the LX lid latching. Really appreciate all the energy you’re putting into this!

Version 7.0 is a no go. Still can't get the lid to close and I can't cut any more or I run into cup stability issues. I had an idea as I was looking at the design that may allow this to work. I have a 1/8" thick bottom to the cup holders. If I remove the bottom so you could see the black plastic of the OEM cup holder at the bottom of the insert; I could lower the cup holder a full 1/8" and I only need 1/16th. It will still keep the exact same depth to the hole and keep drinks stable. This is a super easy change and might work. If not, I'm done. I'm going back to function over form and will just make something that fits and functions perfectly but will NOT allow the lid to close. This is my LAST attempt at this. Should have version 8.0 on Monday.

I don’t care if there is a bottom or not. Good idea!

Soooooo close. Version 8.0 allowed the lid to close. This version has no bottom. Now I have a new issue. I can't reopen the lid. To close the lid you have to push down to a certain point to get to latch. To reopen the lid you have to push it even further to unlatch. I was able to slide a little tool in and unlock the lid but obviously that isn't a solution. I still need another 1/32nd of an inch. This is getting laughable at this point. I went ahead and went back to version 3.0 which fit perfect but in no way would allow the lid to close. I am going to make an option that allows the lid to close and the other option which is strictly functional and doesn't allow the lid to close. I will post pics of the finished version of both in the next few days and let you guys decide which one I should go into production with. For the 1/2 dozen of you who ordered the Cruiser inserts and you have a LX, I'm super close to making a batch and getting your replacement shipped out. I will give you guys the option to choose either version; even if I don't go into mass production on one of them. I will at least make a handful of each version originally.
