Hey everyone,

I’m considering buying the 12 Volt Solutions remote start package for my 2021 LC. I’ve read good reviews about the system on this forum, but I’m curious about the phone controlled package.

It’s considerably more expensive ($460 vs $270) to get the system that allows for starting the vehicle from your phone. I have no problem paying extra, and don’t mind the monthly fee…..as long as the app is reliable and works well. That said, I looked up the app (called CL6) on the iOS App Store, and it has terrible reviews. I sorted reviews by “more recent” and read reviews posted over the past year. Many people say that it worked great for the first year (during the free trial) and then quit working for them as soon as they purchased a 2 year extension. Others say that they can only successfully start their vehicle from the app 25-75% of the time.

For those that have the 12V solutions app - how does it work for you? Has performance of the app degraded over time?

Also, one follow up question - has anyone had any issues with excessive battery drain, with either the phone controlled 12 Volt Solutions package, or with the basic (key fob only) package?

I’ve got it and it works well. No cut/splice install is nice. Key fob only and internet/gps app only for me.

GPS/app remote starts only if you have 3G coverage iirc. Which can be spotty where I am. I don’t think the app has had any detrimental performance comparatively as I’m going on the fourth year of using it on an annual subscription basis. I’ve used it in metro areas without issue however. HTH

Edit: to @Sandroad ‘s point, if you’re not installing it yourself, make sure you trust whoever is. I took my time with mine. No issues.

The app will give you feedback too when it starts. There’s a timer that starts counting down from 15 min after a successful communication of your command. Confirming that you’ve got a successful start. And how long the vehicle’s been running.

Lots of red flags there; terrible reviews, worse over time, way less than reliable, has to use extra battery power when vehicle is off to maintain cell connection……..

And I wonder about 3rd party security. If the app is hacked, will other people be able to start the vehicle?

And if you go with aftermarket remote start, get a quality install job to reduce the problems caused by junk jobs.

I don’t think 3G exists anywhere in the US anymore. To my understanding, it’s been completely phased out and replaced by 4G and 5G. I guess maybe you meant that you must have (general) internet coverage in order for the cell phone remote start to function, and not 3G specifically.

Also, to your other comment - yes I would be installing it myself. To me, that’s the appeal of this system. It’s DIY friendly so I can take my time and not risk letting someone else mess up my vehicle.

Thanks for sharing your experience with this product! Glad to hear it has worked well for you.
