I don't know how often I will check in on this thread but if anyone in Socal in the IE or mountain area stumbles across this thread and is willing to give me acess to their 200 then please shoot me a PM so we can set something up.

Do keep in mind that the cup holders are different with the 2016 model and beyond. Not better. Just different. So not all 200s are the same.

I’m in Apple Valley, not too far, just on the opposite side of the mountain but get that way sometimes. PM inbound.

I just ordered the FJ inserts, if they don’t work, I’ll give my 2018 up to @bhicks for R&D for hydro flask fitment. But to be honest, I wheeled with my hydro flask with a coozy this weekend and it worked pretty well.

Mine is a 2014 so that should cover most of us.

I see your in Apple Valley. I live in Forest Falls but have a shop and teach Engineering in Yucaipa so your rather close. This project will probably have to wait until March since I already committed to a 1/2 dozen projects for January and February. Maybe we can meet up in February so I can take the needed dimensions and will start the design part in March. Send me a PM with your email and we can figure it out.

Here is the thread with a pic. Part number 55616-35010. Not sure if the space is the same size in a 200 but I may give them a shot.
So I purchased this cup holder for the FJ and it fits perfectly in my 2018. AND my hydro flask fits perfectly in the cup holder snugly but not so snug that it’ll remove the cup holder from my car. I do wish it was taller to prevent it from toppling over when I wheel but it’s a huge improvement. If you like hydroflasks, I highly recommend this piece. @Taco2Cruiser something to consider.

That's funny, I just received mine today as well. I left the middle piece in so they would fit more snug. Haven't driven yet but did set a normal water bottle in there and yes much better. They do deform a little with the other piece in but won't move.

Can you still close the lid? Can you snap a pic of the FJ inserts installed BUT with the center piece removed? Are the inserts stable and have zero wiggle?
I just got a ton of dimensions today from @DRCocaCola rig. Found some weird design choices by Mr.T. The depth of the cup holes is just under 2.5" while the industry norm is usually 2.75"-3". These are a bit too shallow. The normal cup hole diameter is usually 3"-3.2" while the 200 series holes are 3.45" which is too wide. In short these cup holders are too shallow and too wide; which you guys already know that. The weirdest thing is that they are not round. The are 3/8" wider front to back than they are left to right. That means your cups wiggle much less on side to side movement in your 200 then front to back (hard acceleration or braking). Why would Mr.T make an oval cup holder? Your guaranteed an unstable fitment for your cups. I do already make the FJ inserts but the insert that needs to be made can't be round. It's outer surface needs to match the awkward oval space that is there with the inside diameter being round and at 3"-3.2". As soon as the Valentines rush stops, I will start working on this project. I was hesitant to design cup holders for such a modern vehicle since you rarely see such a simple feature screwed up, but after personal inspection I definitely see major design flaws. This can easily be addressed with some major improvement toward function. This will be a slow process even though it's a simple design because I don't have a 200 in the shop to work off of. I will have to mail each prototype out for testing fitting, wait for delivery and test fitting, get feedback, make subtle changes, and repeat. This will be a slow process to get perfected.

I snapped a couple of photos for good measure while @bhicks was taking his precise measurements and adding the dimensions to his quick sketch. His estimation is it will take a few tries at a prototype before he can produce a finished product. We’re about an hour away from each other so some of the fitment and testing will occur by shipping prototypes back and forth. We’ll try to speed up the process if either of us is heading in the other’s direction at any point.

I'll be a buyer for a first run.

@bhicks I ended up removing the center piece and put some double sided tape on the bottom so they stay. They are loose otherwise. My lid will not close.

Ok. Thanks for that info. I'm going to try to come up with something that will not wiggle at all, not need any adhesive, and allow the lid to close while still providing the cup stability you guys all want. There are numerous space and size issues I will be dealing with so this will be a bit of a slow process.

Yes tough task. The biggest issue is the space is so shallow.

I made a little mock up piece today for preliminary test fitting. It will ship out Monday. I didn't have it quite down before today's outgoing mail left. I should get some feedback early next week that will give me some good direction on decisions.

Here's some pics of the first prototype. It's a modified and mirrored FJ Insert. The final product will be smoothed out flat black and not rough 3D printed white. I prototype in quick rough settings and always in white so I can mark and take notes directly onto the surface of the prototype. Can someone post pics of the cup holders with nothing in them on the newer interior 2016/7? I don't know what year the newer interior started so please let me know.
