The other day I was talking to someone about doing stuff on cars and around the house. They were saying I was lucky because I knew how to do my own work. I told them I didn't always know how, I just tried and learned. The more stuff you try the more you learn, the easier it is to learn the next thing.

2x, works the same for me.

Yeah...the neighbor comes over one day when i was out in the shop working and asks..."how do you know how to do all this stuff?!" It told him..."I dont..Im just learning as I go." He thought I was kidding!
People seem to think there is a divine power that you are granted out of the womb when it comes to DIY tasks. You just gotta have the STONES to try and be willing to FAIL and then keep going and learn from it.

Back to the build...
Started re assembling the front axle today.
Since I went with the 6 shooters, I had to re set the steering shims. Crusierdrew was kind enough to lend me his SST for this task. Took a little bit to figure it out, but once that was achieved, it was actually pretty easy.
Then set the diff and started re assembling the PS knuckle.
Got up to the spindle and found that the stock dust shroud deal wont work with the 6 shooters, so I MAY need to get the backing plate eliminator kit!!! F$CK!!!!:bang:
Everything is painted and pretty though, so it looks nice!:princess:

Just cut the backing plates so the ring is left and use some NAPA brake lines. Cheap backing plate eliminator kit.

Good work thus far, keep it up!

Sorry I couldn't come over and help you with the SST. Sounds like you figured it out, I told you it was easy once you had it on front of you, .

That is exactly what I was planning on doing.
On the Blotch rig build, I plumbed the brake line directly into the caliper in lieu of going through the backing plate and liked the way that worked...so for this I decided to do the same. Glad I did, cuz I didnt know that there would be interference with the new 6 shooter knuckles.:wrench:

Yeah...didnt take long or anything.
The one thing that was weird that I didnt QUITE GET but did it any way was bolting the spindle on for the second line scribing....
didnt see what difference that made and it made me think I was doing something wrong.

Anyway. Im pretty confident that I got it.

Kieth-just chop up the backing plates saving the thick ring portion. Then run the hydraulics directly to the calipers. If they are the 62 type backing plates with the airscoops, don't chop them Up and I'll send you some old 60 backing plates with no scoops. I personally think the scoops are cool and should be saved for use on spring under trucks. Everyone with a 60 should retrofit the FJ62 front brake backing plates. Then they can bee cool too in a very subtle way.

I had the same experience as you with the SST. No amount of reading about it made any sense, but in 5 minutes of holding it my hands, I understood exactly how it worked. Glad I could assist in some small way with this epic Cruiser project.

You better start posting pictures of your wife in "beach wear" soon since you havent posted any progress pictures...

Here are some of the front ALMOST set up.
Did as described above...took the old dust plate/ backing plate, lit up the ole PLASMA cutter and cut the center section out. Worked like a charm. Took the rotors in to get turned, so I couldnt get the hubs installed and that part of it finalized.
Im excited to get this thing on ALL FOURS and see how she's sitting and wether or not Ill have to make some adjustments that way.

Andy! Thanks again for letting me borrow that. Ill get it out to you this weekend! I got a THREE pack of batteries so Ill send you the extras. Also, I tried to PM you and it said your mail box was FULL.

Have you ever heard of the Ackermann principle.
This states that when you have a vehicle with 3 or more wheels the outside wheel on the steered axle makes a larger radius than the inside wheel. In your set-up the opposite will happen. This will have the biggest effect while driving slow in corners.

yap...
Heard of it.
Hy steer is hy steer. The only one that really addressed that with their hy steer set ups has been 4x4labs with their frombe steering.
Every other manufacturer of hy steer arms uses the same thing from Marlin to trail gear.
