Its starting to look better and better now.
Looks like your getting on the home stretch now, hope its down hill.

LOL...
Im in a better place with it NOW than I was a year ago. That's for sure.
Little odds and ends for the time being. Picked up a second job, so Ill have two less days a week for rig time. However, Im so grateful that I am in a field that I can just PICK UP a second job when needed.

lucky you, I get to make more and more hours for the same salary, no time and no possibility for second job. Doesn't look like a bonus this year and the small horse is costing full payment from this month, guess who's hobby has to suffer. :frown::crybaby: Still I've got enough metal and plans to keep me going.

sorry if you already answered this but did you buy or fab that front diff armor? looks pretty rad

looks like a pipe cap to me.

Yeah, Chicago is waaaay too cheap to buy something like that. He will do his best to wring a $1.10 out of a dollar... NTTATWWT.:flipoff2:

Jack

Hey Keith: Dumb question here: With the short WB and probable steep rear drive-line angle would it be a good idea to relocate/raise the diff fill plug/opening so that you keep lube closer to the pinion bearing?

Dan,
Could do that..... Or just fill via the breather plug on the housing! ;)
Learned that one from cruiser drew.
Brilliant IMO.

Thanks!
Everyone is right!!!
I'm a cheap mo fo and I used a 10 in pipe cap that I cut apart!
Works really well for this application!!!!

what plugging it all the way off with no breather? or just pulling it off to fill?

Just pull it off to fill, it also makes it a lot easier to fill a diff with the plastic quart "squirt" bottles.

I was there when CDrew shared the trick With Chicago.;)

That was one of those moments where you think..."why the HELL didnt I think of that!?" So you get your base fill amount by leaving filling to the base of the plug and then add an extra quart or so.
It really DOES make filling the diff a TON easier as well by using the squeeze bottles. Forever, I had been using the gal. jugs with a screw on pump that took FOREVER to fill.
Learned that on the side of the dam coming out of Loon Lake after my rear axle busted driving BACK to camp ON THE ROAD!!!!
WTF!?!?!

I agree! I am VERY LUCKY in the profession that Im in.
Sorry to hear about hard times my friend. There is a LOT of that going around here in the states.
Precisely the reason my build has slowed as well and I too will be doing the CHEAP odds and ends.

Looking good K- keep it up.

IMO its not cheap to use a $0.10 pipe cap, it looks good and does the job, I wold say its smart. They are just jealous for spending $$$ and you get the compliments for having something different.:D:doh:

BTW we still eat steak and desert, the heat has not been turned down and the SLK is not for sale so don't feel sorry for us, there are a lot of people way worse off.

I have learned and CONTINUE to learn a great deal from my dad who is the ULTIMATE DIY guy. When i was a teen...he made a set of windows. I asked him "why didnt you just buy a new set of windows?" He replied, " I have more time than I do money. I could fxxx this project up TEN TIMES and it'd still be cheaper than paying someone else to do it." THAT STATEMENT ALONE is the reason I have been able to learn and do all that I have done in this hobby!!!! I wouldnt be able to afford it other wise.
Every project I do, I ALWAYS think to myself..."would this be acceptable to my dad?" Its NEVER (thus far) steered me wrong. In fact, there are things that I do NOW where even HE SAYS..."that's a little over kill son, but okay."
So cheap....yeah... on some things. If I CAN do it myself even though its a bit more work/ hassle...Im gonna try. It bites me in the ass sometimes, but that is how you learn.

BTW... anyone here who has the LUXURY of owning a cruiser who is NOT TRYING TO SELL IT because the HAVE TO is blessed. So I wasnt feeling sorry for you. Now if that were the opposite case, then I would truly feel bad. I would HATE to HAVE to sell mine and have so much passion for it beyond that. This is my "ONE THING" that is MY OWN. I calms me, it makes me CRAZY and it gives me passion and motivation in life and keeps me striving to be and DO better. As long as she's not getting SOLD in order to eat and pay bills, then life is good even if I cant DO all I want RIGHT NOW.:D

WTF!?!?!

I know those stupid pumps take like half an hour!! So i think the rear diff hold normally like 2 full quarts? maybe a little more? so 3 quarts and you should be golden then even with the pinions turned up and a nice easy way to fill!

As long as she's not getting SOLD in order to eat and pay bills, then life is good even if I cant DO all I want RIGHT NOW.

Well said.

I know what you mean, my dad still makes about everything he needs that is wood. And I mean everything, he is in the middel of rebuilding his home in France and there are many peaces of furniture in my house he made. Most of them my wif can apreciate, so they must be nice.:D

As for the money thing, the more money you have the more expensive the things you want to buy. Its about enjoying what you have and what you can do, thinking what you can buy in the future and forget about the things that are out of reach (for now). :meh:

For now we can enjoy the (slow) progress on our cruisers.:)

The other day I was talking to someone about doing stuff on cars and around the house. They were saying I was lucky because I knew how to do my own work. I told them I didn't always know how, I just tried and learned. The more stuff you try the more you learn, the easier it is to learn the next thing.
