She is an Angel an to a certain point very understanding.
It also helps that I gave her a present last year so she's got a time consuming hobby to. ( It is her second one so it gives me some time in the garage) Kinda like the little girl myself.

:D Beautiful ride!
So you too grease the wheels (so to speak)!
My wife was a barrel racer and grew up around those "hay burners".
She wants one again. We live in a track development with HOA's and crap on a 1/4 acre...Our next move will be some acreage with a BIG A$$ shop for me and a pen for the wife's someday horse.
Ive got my STEED...Id like for her to have one that she wants as well.

Good job!

Thanks for sharing the pics!

Thanks,
She already had a horse and used to ride endurance (3x Dutch champion), but it is old now so I figured why not get her a young Arab. After that the door was open for the 40, which had a brother. You know you should not separate kins so.....

So much for high jacking your tread back to what mathers.

I will be off for a week (no computer allowed) so be checking on your progress next sunday.
Good luck with the build.

Thanks brother!
Im hoping to be back at it this week. The HG on the 4 runner is almost done. Have a good vacation!

Havent checked on this in too long. when is it gonna run??

side note, my BJ42 is going down south to San Antonio and the orange 60 is coming up here to DFW to fuel my wheeling needs. I dont have the time for Fiona right now and in the long run dont want to destroy her, so she will be my rainy day and cold day wheeler and she will take a little less of a beating.

hurry and finish that 3.0!

I dont have a time frame anymore...Its just oo disappointing at this point.
I do wanna have it up and running for next spring.
I hope to be cranking her over this winter...Jan./ Feb. that will give me some time to work the bugs out hopefuly for the wheeling season here.
Did you pick up Kling-ons rig?

not yet, but im pretty sure we made a deal, its not done till titles are swapped tho.

you have done a whole lot more work to make her pretty than i would have for a wheeler but in the long run im sure it is for the better and to say you know your rig is an understatement. I wish I had a job to even come close to supporting me being able to do what you and others have and are doing.

LOL...
Funny that you mention the finances on this...Someone else said something similar else where.
I had been amassing parts slowly over the last couple of years which includes the motor, the trans, re build of the trans to be sure. Then I sold the Blotch rig to be able to finance the BIG purchases beyond that, and I had been able to stretch that quite a ways. However, I do have a great career that is stable and pays pretty well. Ill never get rich doing what I do (Im an RN in surgery), but it pays decent overall. I clear my bills monthly, have some going into retirement and savings, I have a few bucks left over for some of the smaller purchases on the rig every paycheck. If I have to wait and save for something I will. I DO NOT go into debt for this, so no credit cards.
I figure that when all is said and done, Ill have about 7 or 8 K in this rig. Folks seem to think I have a TON of dough going into this thing. Of course, ME being able to fab and weld is HUGE! That in and of itself saves a TON.
As for the "pretty" factor:princess:...having this stuff CLEAN to begin with makes life MUCH EASIER when something goes down on the trail and it makes it feel...well...new:grinpimp:. That's just my OCD.:D Now...I share this information so that you dont think that Im some money bags that can just throw cash at this hobby. Im just a cheap bastard when it comes down to it. Im VERY CAREFUL about HOW I spend it for this.
Kling on's rig rawks! I know that he had been trying to sell that thing for a long time. Hopefully that you guyz will work out something that is good for the both of you.
Are you planning on doing anything to it when you get it?
I know there is not much in the way of sheet metal to it....:hillbilly:

Just get a saddle for Gunner, she'll never notice he isn't a small horse. :flipoff2:

Thats not really to bad, I guess I didnt take much consideration of the money from blotch. None the less Im personally still not in a position to be able to do that, hopefully some day soon but for now i scour away quarters at a time till i can afford "toys" Im 100% with you on the no debt thing, I have ZERO debt at all for anything other than a few bucks borrowed from friends but that is all.

Yea he has since his kids are a little young to run the trails he likes in the truck due to safety concerns in a roll and what not. Like i say we pretty much got us a deal Im headin down there this sunday with my 42 on a towbar and will trailer the orange truck back up.
As for doing anything to it, i cant stand the tube front sides so I want to skin those ASAP I told him we should do it while im down there sunday :grinpimp: other than that I dont really have any major plans anytime soon. I would like to get side markers and stuff working again so if i wanted to drive it to the store or something i could. The drive shafts are some homebrews and im sure will vibrate like mad at any sort of speed but i would still like to be able to drive down to the wallmart or something here and there :hillbilly: without getting pulled over for no brake lights and crap. but that isnt high on my list really I just want to get out and enjoy it as often as i can. It will save my fiona from certain destruction (or at least prolong it a little as she will still get wheeled) and allow me to focus on her and still have a ready to rock and roll rig.

Im pretty stoked but it is a bitter sweet thing as I loose my diesel 42 that is also my current daily driver, but that just means I will drive the tow rig more or maybe fix the POS honda. For the most part I ride the bike to work anyway (83 GS1100E) so it doesnt matter much untill it rains or something, I ride when its pretty cold out usually and here in texas thats like 40*f range.

Anyhow back to your rig! sorry for the hijack.

UUUUUUGH!
Now I remember how NASTY tearing down a front axle is!!!!
CruisinFJ60...THIS is the reason that I get everything nice and clean and pretty NOW, so I wont have to deal with all the 20 years of MUCK that had accumulated when something brakes on the trail.

Just AWFUL!

I will give you that one!

when i did the front axle on my 60 i dont think it had ever been done before me... i got the hub face off and it started pouring out gear lube... use your imagination to think of how much worse it got when i got past the bearings and into the "messy" part.:bang:

Oh yeah...Gear lube/ grease SOUP. Same in this axle. It wasnt leaking out from the rear wiper though. The bearings looked AMAZING. NO BLUING and no galling to be seen in the inners or outers. My guess is that this axle had not seen hardly any 4WD time in it. Im gonna run em, in fact. Still got the short side to do. I spent about 4 hours cleaning all that crap as it was coming off the axle. Im going to take the housing down to coin op and pressure wash it off before I start cutting anything off.

let me know if you want me to bring your drums and rotors in to my work and surface them.

David...
I was just thinking about you yesterday as I was doing this!!!!
No slight intended:D. I had just been curious as to how you have been. You fell off the face of the earth.
How's the rig?

well sense the spring over is done the wife has given me a life time list of honey doo,s, so might say i fell off the end of the earth, everything comes with a price,,, i have really been enjoying the rig after the spring over , my daughter has been using my truck so my rig is my dd. for a while. so keep your eye out for it on the highway, i will be dropping by soon to check out your progress, the aad springs are comming off its a little to high and stiff with them on, i picked up a sm420 trans i plan on installing when i install a tbi engine, but that wont be for a while i am looking for doner vehicle to do swap, an mid 80s camaro or half tone truck would work out great

Front axle is disassembled and all the "stuff" cut off!
Got a TON of grinding on the old factory welds. Once that is done, Ill start on the housing cut.

Long day cleaning the GOOP out and off of everything.

Also got the front leaf pack painted and assembled. Used rust bullet for the first time. Im planning on using it for the frame and wanted to test it out. That crap is TOUGH AS NAILS! I really DIG IT so far. You seem to get a better finish if you do a light coat for the first application, then a bit thicker for the 2nd. One side I laid it on pretty thick out of the gate and I got some bubbles in it. Not a big deal cuz it on the leaf springs, but it was good to find out how to apply it right.
The only down side is that you have to wait for at least 2 hours between applications, so it takes a while. Seems to be worth it though.

I am too. I just got my outboard kit from proffits and the shackle end is pretty interesting. The inside shackle plate is straight and the ouside plate has two bends in it to move the spring over and you need to use a bushing. looks kinda wierd was wondering how other people have been doing it. FYI great build have used tons of info from it.

Jefishing

I too used that kit, and wondered how it would work out. I have only been wheeling with it a couple times, but it seems to perform well. not sure how it will be long-term though.

I thought I invented that. I certainly thought of it before I heard it hear just now. I've been planning to leave the side plates straight and use a bushing on the bottom and a wide, reinforced frame tube at the top. I drew a quick picture for another thread. More recently I've been thinking about leaving out the braces; both the one labeled and the side-to-side shackle brace. The "bushing" on the bottom and the bolts will be welded to the inboard side to help lessen the tendency for the spring to torque the whole assembly.

I'd love to have one of you guys post up some pictures. Even better if you had a picture while your suspension was all twisted up.

After a year of wheeling, I would inspect the frame bushings, check for wear and rotate them around so they last longer. There is definitely some torque there.
