Also picked up this 25lb lighter intake for $80. The old timer asked what I was using it for, he gave me a funny look šŸ˜‚

Still need to get Holley sniper efi

Probably gonna make more than twice the low speed torque of the stock engine, its gonna be nice. With those heads and intake manifold don't expect alot horsepower(with the stock cam I doubt it'll spin much past 4000 rpms) but its gonna start making great torque right off idle.

Really, when you think about it, a BBC is actually a great engine choice in a heavy 80 series. It'll get a 6000 lb vehicle moving with ease, require nearly 0 maintenance and are about as reliable as it gets. A th400 would be great choice as well, ridiculously strong, crazy reliable and dirt cheap.

And heres one more thing to consider, with a BBC/th400 combo you could probably get away with pretty tall tires and not need a re-gear. The BBC would still get the truck moving without the aid of taller gears and assuming the tires were tall enough I doubt you'd even miss the OD transmission.

I don't think I would do the swap in a rig I was gonna put alot of highway miles on but should work quite well in a mostly off-road rig.

I sort of doubt that

You are right, It makes 275 thru full emissions compared to 500 with no restrictions and ideal settings.

The funny part is 95% (or more) of the time I drove the 96 fj80 it never saw over 3500 RPMā€™s. If I remember right driving it briskly it like to shift about 3200. How will a aftermarket wideband tuned EFI 454 perform up to 3500?

Iā€™ll be calculating mpgā€™s in smiles per mile šŸ¤£

Extremely low brake fluid and Fitch fuel catalyst. I have heard of them, never witnessed the remarkable/magical improvements to fuel mileage šŸ˜‚

Interior is very rough, no 3rd row anymore. I may be looking for a 3rd row.

I have seen worse driver seats, both A pillar trims torn probably due to water leak. I do need sun visors, anyone have extras?

Will this thing be ready for snow wheeling?

It should be ready but without lockers. So I will take the Explorer instead unless something changes.

Quite a few of my friends stay in Detroit Oregon at ā€œall season motelā€ (not very nice) or ā€œthe lodgeā€ (better)

We stayed a night at the all seasons summer of 2018. It was clean and cheap.
I moved to Battle Ground WA in March of 2018 and have yet to find the good place or legal place to go snow wheeling. Your guidance would be appreciated. Seems like WA gives all the summer wheeling areas to snowmobilers during winter.

@baldilocks - make the drive down here, the central Oregon land cruiser club does a lot of snow runs. CENTRAL OREGON LANDCRUISERS

I haven't been on any of the deep snow outings since my rig is stock and unlocked but it does look like a lot of fun.

I went snow wheeling with those guys once last winter. Good people they are.
