Sale Questions

Not sure if this belongs here, but here goes. I will be selling my 04 100 series in the next couple months and have a couple questions about selling the rig.

1. Emblems and wheels are blacked out. Should I leave them this way or return to stock form?
2. Running boards are off. Should I reinstall?

I am curious what you guys think will be the best way to sell the vehicle. By the way I will be upgrading to an 08 200.

Thanks in Advance.

Aaron

IMHO, for widest market appeal, putting it back to bone-stock is always preferable.

I agree with Derek. I had a hell of a time selling my Yukon with the lift and tires that I had on it. I still pulled it off, but I didn't get what I wanted out of it and it took me much longer than I had hoped.

If you're selling it here on the 'Mud in the classifieds, then it isn't as crucial since most of us would rather pull the running boards off and whatnot anyway. How much are you going to list it for? Mileage?

It has 97,xxx miles and I will list it around $21K. I am about to do the water pump and timing belt along with a new windshield.

Posting a picture would help I think. I can't think of how to return the emblems and rims to stock??? Reinstall the runningboards.

Edit on the miles. Actual mileage it 95,320. I will post a picture tomorrow. I would obviously replace the emblems with new and change the wheels to stock non powder coated. Thanks for the input.

Possible LX 470 purchase...thoughts?

Hey all. Took a look at a local 1998 LX 470 today. Here are some stats:

132,000 miles
All service since 2005 performed at Lexus of Portland and Beaverton Toyota
Timing belt, serpentine belt, water pump, etc. done at 98,000
Towing package
No lockers, full-time 4 wheel drive

It drove well, rode well, and the auto-ride suspension and ride-height all seemed to work well. Crawled around underneath and didn't see any leaks or glaring issues. They had not had it detailed or cleaned up, so it didn't look like it was any different than normal (i.e. nothing hidden by a fresh clean).

The issues I could see:

The tear in the rear seat is roughly 2" x 4".
Leather isn't in bad condition, but definitely needs to be refreshed with a full detail.

The owner also said he backed his trailer into the passenger's rear-quarter panel of the LX. It creased the panel, but they had it repaired for the most part. There is still a dime-sized dent and some dings in the plastic trim that wasn't repaired. The crease is gone and the paint looks good. There was a separation of the panel from the body on the inside in the trunk where the body panel binds with the inner-body structure. It appeared that the panel just popped apart at that seem. I couldn't identify any frame damage, but also wasn't able to get it onto a lift today either.

So...all that said...I was still interested in the rig. They are asking $13,999 which seems high considering all of the above (both the good and the bad). The seat repair would need to be done before my wife would be happy, but as long as the frame isn't damaged and the body panel isn't compromised, I could live with that ding. But not at full price of course.

KBB rates this vehicle at $11,850 in 'Good' condition, and Edmunds rates it at $8,268 in 'Clean' condition. I would think, considering all of the above and if it has a clear maintenance history, a $10,000-$11,000 offer would be fair. What do you all think?

Doesnt seem too bad, especially with the lower miles for being a 98. I dig it, love the color. We are actually looking for something similar for my wife. Good luck!

looks cool. but shouldnt this go in the 100 forum? theyd know more i think. you would get more feedback from those guys.

but with that aside, it looks really clean for being 12+ years old!

Wrong forum. You need to post this the 100 series forum.

This is the 100 series forum.

Maybe it got moved before I saw it...

jdog, I just paid $14k for a 2000 LX 470 with 125k. Overall very good shape. Hundie's hold their value differently depedning on the area/region.

I would say my deal on the truck was pretty good but I had to trade a car my gf got upside down on. Given the circumstances and the interest rate we got, $14k wasn't too bad.

I just bought mine in Portland for around 10. Mine has about 180xxx. Did you run a carfax on the vehicle, and check to see when / if the timing belt has been replaced.
Mines lexus white too, I love that color!

About to enter the 100 series world I think

Well I threw my 4runner up for sale officially about 2 hours ago and I already have someone serious so I'm starting to read up on these as much as possible in case I have to buy in the next couple weeks.
I'm currently looking for a 99-02 land cruiser or possibly lx470 no more than 130k and trying to stay under 15. I am going to hit the ground running if this guy decides for sure in terms of searching.
Just wanted to say hey in advance, if you have any advice you want to lend feel free, or random feedback of your experiences so far! Hope everything works out and I'm excited about the upgrade!

Here's a picture of the 4runner

That is one BEAUTIFUL 'Runner! Why are you selling it just out of curiosity? Need something bigger? Love those grabbers on there, BTW - I just wished they made the damn things without the red sidewalls.

I'd read through the FAQ and the Buying/Selling thread, as there is a ton of great information in both. Educating yourself about what to look for is half the battle with these things.

I was thinking the same thing....That's a nice looking truck and already built. I would be hard pressed to sell that one. Well if it doesn't sell you could always do solid axle swap;) Good luck on the sale although I doubt you'll need it.

Ok, I need some advice... I am going to pickup a 2001 LC on Saturday (flying to get it). It is a smoking deal (I talked them down to 4K under trade in) with 81K miles. The carfax came out clean, but I had one concern, it has 57K miles at the beginning of 2006 (and no mileage reported since on carfax), so not many miles since (it started with a new owner at that point). I just want to check some points to verify the mileage is accurate. I'm thinking belts, hoses should probably be original. There is some wear on the driver's bolster, but nothing crazy. What else should I check out?

Buying a Hundy, Need Some Advice

Well, I tried this in the Buying/ Selling thread yesterday, but have gotten nowhere so far, so I figured I'd post this up on the main board...

Here's a couple pics of the driver's seat (all others are pristine) - Does this look pretty normal for 81K?

Looks good, my seats look about the same at 140K. Then again I don't "slide" in like most. Last thing I need is a tear in my seat. What's up with the driver side carpet?

congrats on the 100. Wether you wheel it or hang out at the malls you will like it.

That seat looks a little more worn than I would expect at that mileage. Like 2000UZJ, that's close to what mine look like at 150K. Actually mine look better. But, you should do the Leatherique cleaning and treatment on them. It is amazing and really helps. Makes the truck smell leathery new too.

Are the tires original too? Those old Michelin LTX's last forever, but I would expect folks replace them around 70K. I doubt anything else significant was ever done to a truck with 81K on it. If the battery is original, it will likely need replacing soon. Frankly I would be surprised to see an original battery in one of these at 81K.

Nevertheless it sounds like a great find. Congrats.
