That mileage isn't that rare. Check to see where the last owner actually lived. My last home was in a small town, so we barely put $10k a year on the cars even with both of us working. Shoot, I was 3 miles from the office. If it wasn't a "travel" vehicle, or just a house wife vehicle for going to the grocery, that's quite possible. I would be more concerned if it was wrecked.....

What else should I check out?

There is a 'toyota owners' website (can't remember URL) that you can log in and potentially get more records than carfax has access too. i found some additional service records when i was researching my LC.

Frankly I would be surprised to see an original battery in one of these at 81K.

My LC had the original battery when I bought it at 120k. I've read several other reports on the forum of similar longevity.

This is before all of my mods (i removed the running board, plastic wheel dust caps and window tint) ;)

I tried the Toyota Owners website... There was one record at 57Kish miles at the end of 05, that was it, I called a dealer in the area it was in and they said it looked like they had cleared out the system? So either they did that, or they went private for maintenance.

There was a "Minor/Moderate" rear end collision in 2003. I spoke with the dealer at length regarding the vehicle, he said he checked the rear sheet metal and it appears stock. It has a hitch, so I imagine it did the damage to the other vehicle and the bumper had to be repainted.

I will be checking it out at length obviously, pull up the carpet in the rear if I can to make sure the sheet metal is good there, etc, etc. Not sure on the carpet in the front, maybe some plastic under the floor mat? Either way, I will report back this weekend! I'm pretty excited to be going to a 100. My 62 is just too slow and rides/ drives like a tractor and I don't get it offroad enough to justify it. It will be going up for sale as well as my WRX once it is all said and done...

I thought somebody might want to know about this deal, possibly? But $6000 is a good deal for a hundy...maybe somebody out there is looking and I just wanted to help out

I'm sure this will get moved to the Tech section...

But no it can't be changed out. At least no one has been able to do it yet and there have been a lot of wishers! AFAIK, it's too integrated into the factory controls.

Just bought my LC on New Years day. 98' with 157,000 miles, 20" rims with 285/50 Goodyears with good tread (going to swap those out), gold plated Toy emblems (and probably loose those too!). Hood is a little dull, like it's been painted over, interior is 8.5 of 10, no rips lighter than normal wear. A couple of the wood trim pieces are dull and have cracked, but the dash is perfect. No major dings, scratches etc. and paint still buffs out except as mentioned above.

The only neg is the ignition master key is different than the valet key. meaning that the valet does not start the car and the master does not unlock the car (sticking it in the key hole). But the remote and all works great? Just can't lock the glove. No biggie.... I imagine if I want everything to be keyed the same, that may be about a grand or so. But I can wait.

$11,000.00 cash, cabbage, clams, dinero.... They started out at $11,950.00 (in Orange County, CA)

Two weeks into it and it still seems to run fine. (where's the knock on wood smilie?)

I posted a couple weeks ago about selling my LC "As is" or changing back to stock form. I really haven't done much but powder coat LX470 wheels, 285/75/16 Terra Grapplers, remove running boards, and block out emblems. So asked for pics so here they are. Also, this rig will be going in the "For Sale' section towards the end of February. I will reply to those who have already expressed interest. Please comment on if I shouls sell as is.

Thanks,

100 newbie

Have been a 40 owner for over 20 years. Have always driven Suburbans as my main DD. Have decided to switch over to the 100 series. I am looking at a 2004 with 154,000 miles. The guy said he would take 19 for it. From my research this seems about right. Was hoping for a second opinion on the price and anything in particular that I should look out for. Thank you for you responses.

Well after doing some research I think he is close, but maybe a little high. My 2004 has 96000 miles on it now and will be close to 97 when I post it for sale I am was planning on starting at 21K. Maybe I am way low. I would check and make sure all the required maintenance has been done, like timing belt & water pump. Just my $.02.

Thanks,

I would un-loose the running boards if you have them and they are in good condition. Yes it will look mall cruiser but will appeal to a wider group.

Hi all,

In looking around at 100s I've come across two that seem interesting:

- 98 LX470 one owner 135k miles, CDL, $12k
- 97 LC two owner anniversary edition 140k miles, no lockers, $9.5k

Let's assume for the sake of discussion that both have been properly maintained, though it's easier to prove with the Lexus because all records are available. "most" records are available for the Land Cruiser.

The LC needs some upholstery and dash trim work to look good, whereas the LX470 is good to go as far as the interior is concerned.

Which would you say is the better deal, and are they both priced about right?

Just to be clear, you realize the 97 is an 80 series not a 100 series? I would say the 98 is probably a better deal if both are in similar condition. But an 80 series is a great truck, and might be worth the asking price, depending on the market in your area.

Thanks for the correction - I actually didn't realize that; I thought 80 series ended earlier.

I'd lean towards the '98 too; all things being equal I'd prefer the one-owner scenario due to availability of all maintenance records.

Hell no!

I paid 10 g's for my hundy with the same milage, and mine came with every service document every completed for it. It better be immaculate for what they're asking. Considering they didn't even bother to take pictures of it, you've got to wonder what else they didn't bother to do.

You also might get better feedback posting in this thread:
