There is a 99 w/ 104K for 13 Thousand in Blue Lake Ca (SF Craigslist). I bought a CarFax and scheduled an inspection at the dealership. He then quit all communication, but was bluffing well up to that point.

What is the deal with Private Party sellers listing at Dealer Retail and stating firm? Annoying/

They are waiting for that one sucker who skips doing his/her homework on the rig.. and buys impulsively ;)

Hi all,

I am looking to upgrade the family cruiser from a 1999 to a 2006 or so. I posted an advert in the SF bay area craigs list. 168k miles, pretty clean car. never wheeled (:princess:) No rust, Ca car, interior good. River rock over tan. Has the rear diff lock and Bilsteins.

I did the timing belt and water pump at about 100k miles, so I'm sure it was done right.

asking $10k.

Comments?

Thanks,
Pete

First, Wayne (two posts above), that '04 looks nice. Blue will be hard to keep clean though. Make sure you do a real close inspection of the undercarriage for rust.

Second, yes some dealers and individual sellers are amusing. I am looking at a 2001 LC in Nashville, TN on a dealer lot. It is clean (no rust/accidents, etc), white, 91k miles, but needs the 90k service. He is asking $17.900 which is only $500 lower than NADA full retail. I asked him about that citing NADA average trade-in as $13,500 (I bet he didn't pay too much more than that, and if he did, I should not pay him back for his choice). He said all their vehicles are priced just below retail and that he was firm in that price. He even offered to fix anything wrong with the vehicle at that price. Now, paying a little more for quality is okay, but I told him $15-16k was a good deal IF the vehicle was in fine shape. I kindly asked him to let me know if there was any change in his price. Sometimes (many times), you have to walk away. There are clean, used LC's out there at right prices (close to good trade-in value). Patience pays off.

Got any pics?

I need to do the pics, but it has been raining for the last week. It is clean, but a family car more than a show car. Needs a good detailing if you want to make it look showroom nice.

I have pics of the timing belt job, but thats not what you wanted... :)

04' with 50K

So I went through the entire cruiser today, it is nice.

I read the service report and carfax, that 04' looked like the front bumper was misaligned and had a scrape. It is likely the only damage that came from the accident listed on the report. There was no indication of a repaint on the front end parts and it is certified used Toyota, which means any damage must be minimal (less than three panels replaced, per the rep). Every bolt in the engine compartment was rusted from treated roads. Every weld on the frame was surface rusted but nothing really bad, I wish every cruiser was desert dry :)

The engine had a belt/pulley noise (high pitched) which he said would be addressed.

I am up in the air on it. Seems like a good enough shape, low mileage cruiser.

I'll research more on the prices. Retail seems like 29K for 50Kmile rigs. Certified Toyota qualifies financees to decent interest rates. hmmm.. how can I fit two forward facing and one rear facing child seat in there and not kill my self strapping them in?

Price seem high for me - high blue book for me would need to be dead nuts PERFECT in every respect.

Aftermarket or OEM replacement panels would not have the Vin on them. Even the rear quarter panels have Vin tags on them(behind the bumper wings). There is a Vin tag on the top of the horizontal support behind the front bumper if you question the extent of front end damage.

As for the car seats make sure it has the side curtain air bags option.

I saw your ad on Craigslist before I saw you post here. I generally skip contacting anyone without a picture, I just assume something is wrong. You also call it a 1999 and a 1991 in the add. I thought you just said 1999 to get more hits and assumed it was a 1991. Why don't you post some pics, even with rain it's better than nothing. I would fix your add to match years as well.

Edit: This was meant as friendly advice from a buyer. Hopefully it didn't come off as judgemental.

Just got an email from a potential seller. 1999 with 90,100 miles. One owner from new. Carfax has it registered in the same local and passing emissions every year, last time it passed was 350 miles ago. Has not had the 90K service. He bought the extended warranty at purchase time so all service has been done at the dealership up to this point. It looks really clean and everything works. 15K even with is 3.5K less than his asking price. This is the best deal I've come across after searching for the last month daily. What do you guys think?

Thanks Danny. I fixed the typo. I'll try on the pictures tomorrow. Sounds like you may have found a good one anyway.

Rear A/C? Check for undercarriage rust as LC's are sensitive to this issue; IMO avoid if the rig is from or near a rust belt state or you WILL eventually regret your purchase!

I haven't checked value's on '99's lately but $15k sounds high to me especially since you will have to turn around and do/have the 90K. Rear locker? I assume you've checked for all the obvious leak points: CV boots, shocks, etc.

When I originally had the idea I figured I would have plenty to choose from at 15K. After a month of searching the entire west half of the us on Craigslist, Autotrader, and Cars.com, this is the best deal I've found and the only Cruiser that is under 100K miles, has a service history, and will sell for 15K. I wish I could find this truck for 13, but so far, no luck

I will check it out on Monday. I'm on vacation now. I doubt there will be rust. It's spent it's whole life in my town and winters are really mild. They never salt/chemical the roads and usually only sand once a year. Haven't checked for the usual leaks yet. I'll do a search to find what to look for. Thanks for the opinion.

Thanks LCPhil :)

Seems like typical retail price to me from what I've seen. Compared to private party, yup, is high.

I am thinking a Denali is going to meet my needs better at this point. I need to tow my minitruck trail truck and sometimes other old cruisers. The ins and outs for kids is pretty tough in the 100 compared to the door openings of a GM SUV with the 5.3. (*edit, the Upper level Denali has the 6.2 and 6 speed auto)

If Toyota put the V8 diesel in the cruiser, sequoia, or Tundra... oh well.

did u offer him 13k and he countered wth 15k?
agree 15k seems high and it still need 90k

Danny, car values in CA are among the highest in the US. For the best deal, you'll generally need to travel outside the state... but doing that will incur other acquisition costs and so may not be worth it. On the flip side, if/when you sell it, you will get a higher price for it too.

I'm actually in Boise ID. You are right about Cali though. Pretty much the same story with OR, WA, and ID. I see a lot of great deals in FL, TN, etc. By the time you factor in sight unseen and getting it out here I think it's gonna be a wash.

I might just bite the bullet and pay 15K for the one for sale locally. I'll know more this week after I get a better look at it. Thanks again for your input guys. I appreciate it.

Reasonable selling price for 06 100 series

I have looking a KBB values and don't see many around for comparison...thought I would get input here. Since purchasing our 09 200 I am thinking about selling our 06 for a different daily driver.

Here are the specs-2006 LC100, Silver/Grey. 1-owner, 32,xxx miles, midwest car, wife's car and never out of the mall parking lot, no mods, no towing, everything 100% functioning, no problems, all dealer service, new tires, new battery...that is it. Condition: has a scuff on the rear bumper (3" long), a few scuffs/dings on the sides, maybe a few rock chips on the front. Carpets need cleaned/detailed from kid's wear....otherwise perfect. Has every option (I think) including Nav+rear entertainment system.

We purchased this new as an early 06 along with a 7/75 Toyota Platinum extended warranty. I believe it to be transferable.
What is it worth toward end of winter?

Well it seems 100 series values have come up relative to about 1-year ago. I could have bought a pristine one-owner '06 with 37K miles on it then for $29,990. However with the moderation in fuel prices it looks like mid to upper 30's is what they are going for and possibly more. There are a few out there, as you may have seen, in the low to mid 40's but they don't appear to be selling.

Good luck with your sale!
