Thanks Cole. It was a good weekend and I made good progress. Only bad thing is I was so ready to get the cover on I'm not sure I checked the torque on the cam sprocket bolt and I know I didn't red loctite it.... So for peace of mind, I'm afraid it will have to come back apart :censor::bang:

Oh well, on the upside, all the hard parts are done, so hopefully it won't be eat up too much time. D@mn it sucks though.

The first time you dive into a big project like this, it's always a learning curve for me too. But, better to go back in and torque and loctite now than to do it later, or have it fail and cause more damage.

Yeah, I am hoping it won't be too bad to break it back down, clean the surfaces, do up the bolt and then get it all back together, for good hopefully this time. Lucky for me the gasket set is cheap and I only need the one for the timing cover.

Well after an early co-op run this AM, we put together Erin's new chicken mansion and then while she was mowing I commenced to Ford works.

I am very pleased with the productivity, and if I had had a small bolt for the timing indicator, I would probably have gotten nearly finished, but I can't put the harmonic balancer back on until I get the indicator bolted down, so that kind of stalled me out.

But the water pump is hime for good, sporting all new ARP SS 12pt fasteners. With the pump on I started bolting back on all the accessory brackets, got the alternator back on, installed the new tensioner and started reconnecting some of the heater lines. Overall I'm super happy with where I got to, just wish I had a little bolt for that one spot so I could get the balancer on and button up the pulleys.

Anyway here are a couple pics from today.

ARP makes some nice hardware.

Getting close to buttoning everything down

And now that it served its purpose, my template and these rusty bolts can find a new home in the garbage can.

All total, I think I need about another half day and I should be ready to change the oil and top off the fluids.

Slowly but surely I'm getting there. Hell we may make GSMTR with the 40 in tow yet!

I think Ford won the contest for making the largest set of brackets and mounts for the front of the engine that have multiple functions. Aggravating to deal with but solid once you get things back in place. Looking good

Closest we've been in months. Got the new radiator in, harmonic balancer on, crank pulley on, water pump pulley is on but cant put the fan clutch and fan on til the fan shroud goes back on. Need to pick up belts this week and an o-ring for the oil cooler bolt and that should be that other than coolant and oil.

I have a rotor, cap and wires that I am going to do while I have the air tubes out of the way.

Anyway, not a good way to take a picture, but here is one I did get.

More to come this week I hope.

Picked up belts and o-rings today at Advanced. Was surprised they had the o-ring kit. May try to get them on tomorrow if I have any daylight left when I get home.

Well I went ahead and picked up a new fan clutch today as well as the correct alt belt. Apparently I have the 95A alt not the 130A alt. Going to keep the other belt so of I want to upgrade to the 130A unit later I can, but dont feel like fooling with wiring right now.

Well, so dang close, but still didn't quite get there. Top end is done. I got the new fan clutch on and got the belts back on. Went ahead and installed the new cap and rotor, but didn't do the wires and plugs just yet. Got the upper hose on and got a new air filter in and got the intake tubes back on. So all I lack is getting the oil cooler back on and installing the lower hoses, fill it, flush it, change the oil and take 'im for a spin and try check for leaks and try to wear the flat spots off the tires.

I'm at that point where it it isn't really fun anymore and is more of a chore, so I am ready to get this done so I can move onto the next project.

hmmm, I had 5 gals of gas and a match in my hands yesterday...:deadhorse:

Yep, I verbalize it today to Erin. I'm just ready for it to be done. She offered to help, but not a lot she can do other than offer moral support. Her best comment of the day was when she said "you just have to get it done so you can move onto the next project", I took that and went from just starring at the engine to actually trying to put it back together.

I was thinking someone was going to be in the running with me for a started but not finished project...but you screwed up and jumped back into the game too quick. I hate it when you get lined to do three or 4 things and then you forgot the parts on something else and "boom"...its a dead end game for that day. IT will be a great day when it runs and you don't have to do anything but normal maintenance stuff.

I am not familiar with this concept, please tell me when and how does this happen?

that time came 30 years ago for most of our trucks.

well of course this does not consider further modifications that may be necessary...or what some might call improvements :)

This is the part that always seems to kick me in the ass. You guys know me, but if you only knew the pile of "improvements" that I have parts for stashed away for the various projects on the farm.... well lets just say I, like Ted, don't think that day will ever come, at least while I am on the green side of the grass anyway.

I know right? WTF is Elbert talking about?

Oh, my wifes CRV I guess.

yeah I'm the "crack" smoker in the group..:) Oh yeah...when is this thing gonna run!

Maybe tomorrow, I spent all day today putting a terrain tamer setup on Erin's GX. Of course I'm not sure I will be able to move tomorrow after 8 hours on the concrete today...

Beat rolling around in gravel. I did that yesterday putting the new gas tank in Betsy. I couldn't figure out why I was in so much pain today and then I realized it was from rolling around on a pile of sharp marbles!
