Ok, First Post. I have a 76 Fj40. I've owned it for about four years. When I bought it, it came with a chevy 305, Th350, TLC transfer, and shackel reversal. It was pretty much stock looking. Every moving part on it leaked something oil, coolant, tranny fluid, etc. The PO's were stupid, ok IDIOTS. They thought it would be a good idea to weld the P/S box bolts to the bracket and weld the steering arm together which just looks scary. So for the last four years I have been trying to build this Beast into the ultimate vehicle. Already I've built a 350 and threw it in. Had overheating issues, cured that with an aluminum radiator and Black Magic fan.
A couple of years ago I found a old Blazer with a NP465 tranny hooked to a 205 transfer. I took it thinking this is what I was going to put in it, but had second thoughts. I found a 87 Blazer with everything I wanted Th700 and fuel injection. I took that. Plus I found a old 70s Dodge van 3/4 ton with a D60HD full floater I took that too. (Freebe, Zilch, Nada) The only thing was, it was offset. I new I wanted it centered so I had Shaffer's cut it down and centered it. Thanks Shaffer's.
Now I bought a 2 speed STAk transfer with driver drop and adapter. I should get that in mid March. On my last weekend I removed the Th350 and TLC transfer. So this is the start of my build. Alot a hard sweat and blood. Below is a short list of whats going to happen.

Engine - SBC 350 w/ TBI fuel injection
Tranny - TH700r4
Transfer - 2 speed STAk w/ driver drop
Front - Ford D60 HP
Rear - D60 HD Full Floater
Lift - 2 1/2 HFS w/ SOA
Tires - 35 MTR's maybe 37's

Nolen is exactly correct!!

WAAAAAAY to small of tire for D60's. Here is one example of how 44's look on a 40 (44x18.5x15) Russell Armstrong's "BigTex"... def one of my favs.

ALSO... look at his thread he started. It shows a great example of his son's rig "then & now" Tires then... 36x15 Tires now... 42x17.

Good Luck! look forward to seeing pics!

I Have the stock wiring harness, but I'm thinking I'll get the painless harness.

TBI's are simple, you can strip it down NP.. Or, www.portfuel.com is very reasonable and knows his stuff.. He's done a few harnesses & PCM's for guys I run with, and is doing mine..

Too bad you centered the rear 60.. offset would be :grinpimp:

Go Bigger

Definately go bigger.

2.5" lift and a springover???

might want to think about different springs...

Russell's sons' rig (the one posted in the "Proffitt gives Meanie a facelift" thread) is using 2.5" springs w/ SOA (front) w/42's.... if any less tire, yes, you are correct.

How long of a wheel base are you going for it seems like you would want to stretch it as much as possible. Kinda limited with leafs tho it seems most people going for those big axles shoot for the four link and put the tires at the ends. Bsides that is a long drivetrain for a 40 wheel base. Sounds cool tho post lotsa pix:cheers:

Wow, what a response. At least now I know I'm going in the right direction for my Master Plan and everything is subject to change. I have been debating on what springs to put in. In my Master Plan I will extend that wheel base, thats for sure. I was thinking fj60 springs. Has anyone ever heard or done fj60 springs in the back and fj40 springs in the front, and what kind of ride would I get. Is it plausable or a busted idea. Input needed. A 4link would be cool, But I think that's out of my league for now. Maybe later down the road.

And the only thing I don't like about Proffit's rigs (read the ones he has built) is the sheer size. Unnecessary IMHO.

60 rears in the back and 40 springs in the front will look and flex great :)

I agree with Mace, although nothing cooler to look at and watch perform in Moab.

Here were I am and the trails the kids are building are no logging and super tight.

All depends on your trails and terrain.
