Do you like it? Or is it more of a "it works but isn't great" kinda part?
I leave the hole open all the time since I haven’t been in hood deep water. I image my intake temps are taking the hit since it’s pulling in engine bay air. It was only meant to be a short term fix. That was 8 years ago.

This is exactly why I would hesitate to do that if I were building an intake set up...because I know I'd be too lazy (not saying you are, but I would be) to remember to close it.

I can’t imagine forgetting something like that when you pull up to a body of waist deep water. Lol
Yeah, not likely to forget when crossing water for sure…but for me I need my intake up high primarily to reduce dust intake…and on the LX also to help with IAT. I am running a precleaner also to minimize the dirt hitting the filter.

I can if I've been used to having a system that doesn't require it. I've had my 80 in water over the hood a couple times and I didn't think twice about the intake - not because I'm an idiot (whole 'nother topic :grinpimp: ) but because I didn't have to. It was sealed. I knew that I was more likely to have issues getting water on some of the 12v system than I was to suck water in my engine. I'm not so confident I would remember to close an airbox BEFORE I drove into some water. Could I remember? Sure. WOULD I though? Idk, not willing to bet a new engine on it.

Edit: all I'm saying is habits are hard to break. If you knew from the start that you had to close your airbox then so be it, you'd figure it out just like people who part time have to get out and lock their hubs. So it's not the end of the world - it just a matter of approach. I prefer not to have to touch anything for my vehicle to ford moderate amounts of water. YMMV.

In case anyone was wondering, you can most definitely install a Slee hitch into a @Delta VS bumper. The process to do so is pretty simple following the Slee instructions since Dave designed the Delta bumper with the intent of allowing folks to do just this. I used a sharpie to mark out a box around the 4 factory bolt holes in the rear cross member and then used a zip wheel and saw-zall to cut a rectangle out of the bumper shell and rear cross member. Apply some primer and black paint to the cut edges and then bolt it all together. The result is a nice and clean bumper, now with a super bomber hitch. Also works well with the @NLXTACY Wits' end OBA tank mount...tons of clearance.

Slee Hitch Parts received and I am getting ready to do this in a few days. I noticed your exhaust...... I'm getting a pretty solid 80 series whistle with the exhaust terminating in the wheel well. Looks like you relocated your resonator, I may have to duplicate this idea. Thoughts?

Thanks again for posting this. I need this for a 4 mountain bike rack tray. I coach my daughters high school Mountain bike team and every time I wheel I pull the drop down slee 4 bolt hitch, PITA..... This will be much, much cleaner.

I did the hitch mod for the same reason…to carry my Mountain bikes. I didn’t change up the exhaust, the prior owner did that before I bought it, but it doesn’t whistle and I haven’t managed to smack it on anything…go for it.

Morgan, in your opinion, does the Safari snorkel make noise at speed? If so, is it loud/annoying/distracting?

I have a pre-cleaner on top of my snorkel and driving around town with windows closed I don’t hear anything, but if I have the passenger window open and hitting the boost, I do hear it sucking air pretty good.

Like your accent: hitting boost and sucking mass amounts of air sounds sexy. Not annoying at all.

Ahem, thanks dude.

To snorkel or not to snorkel, that's the question I have been struggling with.

After the Rubicon giving that front 1/4 panel a kiss that 4" hole doesn't sound so bad 🍻🤪

Any opinions on Snorkel brands? Dobinsons, ARB (damn safari print) or ARB knock off.

How about pre filter preference?

I now need to figure out how to repair the plastic flare stand offs that snapped, been thinking JB weld or small counter sunk stainless screws through the flare into the square plastic pucks

Mud is so great, I have been thinking and reading snorkel stuff and boom, here's a fresh conversation

The new version of the ARB safari snorkel for the 80 series is actually much larger than the original. Unless you need a massive 4” or 5” custom job…think big Cummins or Dmax diesels, then my recommendation would be to go with the new safari…Kurt carries them @cruiseroutfit

For the pre-cleaner, you have a few options, the 70 series “bird feeder” check out @Box Rocket truck for pics of that setup. I am running the 10” Donaldson “salad bowl”…both of those options are also available through Kurt and both work great. I will say that between the two, only one of them has come flying off in the dessert sending Adam on a search and rescue mission during our last trip ;)

Haha, To be fair it got ripped off by a tree in that tight wooded section and I didn't put it back on properly. That's why it fell off in the desert. It has been put back on properly. ;)

Wait did @BillyGoatMTB do the rubicon without sliders?
No sir! 🤪 That would have been 80 series abusive destruction. I love, love, love my 80.

I put on a set of metal tech 4x4 DOM sliders, they did great.

My two friends Chris and Allen are super into Jeeps and have a lot of Wheeling / rock crawling experience. They spotted me on everything. I believe that's the primary reason I didn't take on any heavy damage. Must have been dozens of close calls.

There are a few spots like at the bottom of big sluice I thought for sure there was no way the 80 series was going to fit through, I mean it was close.

When I watch this video I laugh and remember how much this was a Huge pucker factor for me.

Putting those @Delta VS radius arms to work 🤣

Awesome 👍 thanks

Now...... To come to terms with that 4" hole ....

Morgan, more questions from me. Based on your builds, I assess cost isn't a factor when it comes to what you want for your 80s. With that said, there are many options in the US that are of quality and availability and in some cases, affordability. Which leads me to my next question, why did you choose Drifta for your drawers and how do you like them?

Cost is always a factor, there are still plenty of things I would like to do, but haven’t as I still do budget myself on these builds. That said, I have dumped a decent amount of cash into these builds over the years, and have typically sought out top notch components as I very much value quality parts.

I went with Drifta for a couple reasons.

1) I wanted a custom setup built to my specs, Drifta will build whatever you want.

2) I appreciate the business values and contributions to the community that Luke exhibits, I like to feel good about who I am supporting when making purchases.

3) After having to deal with cleaning dirt and grease out of heavy duty drawer slides, I wanted to try something different and I really liked the Teflon slide approach that Drifta has.
