That's cheaper than I expected. When I looked initially everything I saw was over $500
Yeah it’s pretty reasonable as far as 3/4” torque wrench’s go.

Yup.
I got a cheap 3/4breaker bar from harbor freight to bump the cs bolt loose and figured if it broke I was only out $30. It actually did just fine though.

Thanks. I had to source from a few places...total PIA. Most of it came from Norwalk, Partsouq and a local dealer for the trim that doesn't make sense to have shipped (rain gutter trim). I believe @Delta VS now has a bunch of moulding in stock, so check there first.

Wouldn't go so far as to say 'a bunch', but do have a handful of complete sets. Since they were so hard to find all the parts for, not going to be listing them on the site at the moment. Would rather keep full sets for rigs that come into the shop.

No worries. Please let me know if you decide to sell them

I had to pull the dizzy out in order to install a new bypass hard line that snakes up behind the distributor. Before removing I marked the housing against the head, set the motor to TDC and took a few pics of the rotor position at about 11 o’clock for reference later.

Whilst the dizzy was out of the way I pulled the alternator and mounting bracket off so I could get the coolant outlet off of the head. I replaced that peice with a new one pre-tapped by @NLXTACY for a coolant temp sensor. Also replaced the dizzy o-ring, which was still is very good shape. Hopefully I didn’t mess my timing up when putting it back together.

Now it’s just about time to get this bad mofo tucked into its new home...should be harder for me to break the bypass nipple off this one.

So had a bit of a set back the other night. When moving the OEM trans cooler hose barb fittings from the factory radiator over to the new Ron Davis one of the fittings got cross threaded :bang:

I am going to cut these off and weld on AN-6 fittings. For those looking to install a Ron Davis radiator, I would highly recommend not attempting to reuse the OEM barbs. @NLXTACY makes a nice M14x1.0 to AN-6 adapter, or if you screw the pooch like I did, just have AN-6 fittings welded in place.

Radiator is repaired with new russell AN-6 male fittings welded in place of the M14x1.0 fittings.

I had a bit of motivation tonight, so got cranking at knocked out a few things
  • Replaced all the vacuum lines under and over the manifold.
  • Moved the intake back to the stock location with a new gasket and hooked everything up.
  • Replaced all the small coolant lines
  • Made up new 3 new trans cooler lines with Derale 3/8 hose.
  • Drained the engine oil and replaced the filter with a big oil can (15600-41010).
  • Dropped the new radiator in and replaced the bottom two hoses. Also hooked up the new trans cooler lines with nice black AN-6 fittings.
  • Tapped the York water pump pulley into place.
  • Installed a new heater pipe that runs about the exhaust manifolds.

The molding for the flares in cream/tan is not hard to find at all.

Just because somebody says it is hard to find doesn't mean it is, nor does that give them the right to keep the info a secret and more than double the price you can buy it from Toyota for.

Cheers
Did I miss something? Not sure if this was meant for my build thread.

Ya was not meant for your thread. I edited my post to only include the links with parts numbers for anyone needing them but can easily delete if you like?

Cheers

More turbo and maintenance progress was made last night.
  1. I installed a new fan shroud since the original had two broken mounting tabs....figured I should get it now while it’s still available.
  2. Replaced the modified orange fan clutch with a modified blue fan clutch and bolted the fan back in place.
  3. Adjusted the 2 drive belts and AC belt. I will get to the 4th belt in a little bit.
  4. Put the rest of the new radiator hoses on with breeze constant torque clamps.
  5. Installed the wits end oil peace pipe with oil temp sensor, turbo oil supply fitting and a new oil pressure guage.
  6. Replaced the brake booster check valve and grommet with new parts.
  7. Installed the Vacuum T on the manifold that will supply vacuum/boost to brake booster, boost gauge and turbo waste gate actuator. I had to order up a new hose barb to connect the brake booster hose as this is another part that gets omitted when running a Superchanger.
  8. I was bummed to realized that I had to go back under the manifold to replace the one-way orange/black vacuum check valve. Would have been much easier if I had do this when I had the throttle body off doing all the vacuum lines. New check valve in place now though.
  9. Replaced the vacuum line running to the charcoal canister and also installed a 2nd check valve in the middle of that hose.

Also dropped the lower oil pan and got started modifying the upper oil pan for the turbo oil drain. This is the scariest part of the install!

Tonight I finished up the oil drain fitting in the upper pan. I did manage to fubar the install by not noticing my 1/8” drill bit skipped out of the punch mark....resulting in a few extra unplanned holes having to get filled in...but all is good now. I used my endoscope to checkout the inside of the pan after the repairs were made and it’s solid.

I cleaned up the lower pan and upper pan mounting surfaces, but haven’t yet sealed it back up. I spent a lot of time trying to blow the aluminum chips that get stuck up in the pan on a ledge. I know there are still some there because I can see them with my endoscope...but they are proving real hard to get out. I’ll have another go at it tomorrow.

I relocated the AC line away from the exhaust using a shorter shock tower bracket that @NLXTACY provides and wrapped the AC line in a heat shield blanket.

I decided to hook up the turbo oil feed supply line while I still had the front manifold out of the way. Then got busy installing new manifold studs, gaskets, manifolds and heat shields that I had ceramic coated a while ago.

Last update for tonight was that when I pulled my Y-pipe out, I managed to snap both studs for the front 02 sensor. I decided that the pipe and cat has seen better days so I will replace with a new cat rather than try to drill/tap and weld that rusty mess.

J-Pipe is on and T4 studs are in place just waiting for the turbo to get dropped on top. Pro-Tip: Tape up the ports on the J-pipe when installing the studs to prevent dropping a nut down into the pipe.

Wrapped up the down pipe with the blanket that arrived just in time. My wife now thinks I am totally weird for buying sweaters for my exhaust pipes.

Finished cleaning out the aluminum chips and got the lower pan sealed back up.
1F4B5EF8-7E4A-4E7F-8B35-885762BE4C56.jpeg

Also fitted the NPT to AN adapter into the oil drain fitting.

Haven’t done much on the LX in the past 2 weeks since COVID-19 took over the world...but this afternoon I got back in the garage and slapped the turbo into place. Took a little bit of trial and error to get the oil drain line routing correct, I would recommend to attach the line to the turbo before dropping the turbo onto the T4 flange.

I then moved to the wastegate and installed the two supplied springs, banjo fittings and plugs, nearly losing a few screws between the boards on the back deck in the process.

This Tial wastegate is a seriously nice piece of kit!

Installing the downpipe and wastegate was a bit of a struggle to get everything aligned perfectly, but I got it done...I am sure @NLXTACY is about to block my number after today’s tech support messages.

Crazy. I'm at the exact same spot of install on my turbo right now and thought Joey was going to kill me yesterday too.
I'm having trouble lining up the downpipe bracket right now, but hopefully fresh eyes today itll be easy.
Nice install!

When I put the parts list together, I made sure every part was something I would put on my own truck. I said in the beginning it could be done cheaper, but instead I wanted every part to be high quality.

This Tial wastegate is a seriously nice piece of kit!
