Bubbles got a Superchargerectomy today. I still need to remove the crank pulley, but this turbo swap is now in full swing.

Need to change the oil as part of this turbo install...so stocked up on the good stuff.

Don't know how i follow you on instagram and haven't seen this thread. Looks super good. Loving the DVS rear setup with that burner. I've been debating rear bumper options as i'm about to do a similar build but with bp-51s/turbo/35s/etc. buy once cry once though i guess!

The gram is powerful. The Delta rear bumper is the bomb digitty!

So while doing the valve cover and tune up work I had a knucklehead moment and must have leant on the bypass hose on the radiator...resulting in a broken nipple. I have done this twice now on two separate 80’s so I used it as an excuse to order up a Ron Davis radiator that I am less likely to break. I wasn’t planning on going this deep, but figured if the radiator had to come out I might as well redo the cooling system and front end seals. Lots of parts from @NLXTACY and @cruiseroutfit and I got stuck into it. Was going rather smoothly until it came time to remove the crank pulley. My 3/4” to 1/2” adapter couldn’t handle the Ugga-Dugga’s! Now to find a couple good quality 32mm and 30mm 3/4 drive sockets.

Had about an hour in the garage tonight, got the new thermostat and waterpump installed along with one of the 3 radiator hoses. Took off the exhaust manifolds and studs and sorted out the vacuum lines under the intake manifold...put them back to stock configuration.

@Onur problem solved

I had to pickup a new bypass hardline that bolts to the front of the block and routes up toward the throttle body....but I think I have to pull the dizzy to get that hard line installed. I think the hardest part about this turbo is all the Super Charger unwinding work I have to do.

Nice build! I think this is the same FZJ80 I test drove in Boise and you’re the lucky person that bought before I was able to device a plan to tell the wife why I need a second FZJ80.
The stock pulley on the supercharger was disappointing after my test drive but the overall vehicle was well maintained and 3x locked.
I ended up flying to Seattle to drive home a white stock ‘96 since you bought this one. I later pickup a slightly used supercharger in Ogden Utah with the 2.8” pulley. The power was definitely more impressive than the stock 3.2” pulley.
With that said, very interested in your impressions of the turbo once you get it up and running. 👍🏼

It's likely the same rig...I didn't tell my wife I owned it for about a year after I bought it...that's the secret. At this point she is accepted I have an incurable landcruiser disease and just rolls with it. There was a vaccuum/boost leak in the manifold when I first got it...after plugging that up, the boost has been great.

Haha. My problem is the wife takes care of the finance so can’t hide it other than cashing out on stocks and have it sent out to me in a check.
I caught the same disease or virus and there’s no cure. The few things that temporarily help with the sickness is spending money at Wit’s End, DeltaVS and the local Toyota dealership. Ultimately I just need to make plans to take the it out on excursions more with the kids so I’m not wrenching on weekends.

such a cool rig man. I need to replace all the seals on the windows on my 95 LC and was actually on the forum to look at that when i ran across your build. Would you mind telling me where you got yours from?

Thanks. I had to source from a few places...total PIA. Most of it came from Norwalk, Partsouq and a local dealer for the trim that doesn't make sense to have shipped (rain gutter trim). I believe @Delta VS now has a bunch of moulding in stock, so check there first.

Attempt #2 at the crank pulley bolt was a success after I got a set of 3/4” drive sockets delivered. Popped out the crank seal which was still supple. Had no issues removing the oil pump cover with the #3 JIS bits from @NLXTACY. The oil pump o-ring was also still in very good shape...but they both got replaced anyway.

Joey provided the perfect sized PVC cap to press the crank seal in with, I added a thin layer of FIPG black around the edge before installing.

I had to buy a new crank pulley bolt since the longer one goes with the supercharger pulley. Got it lubed up well with ultra slick and using the @OTRAMM crank holding tool again torqued the bolt down to 308 ft/lbs. This torque wrench is a Monster!

Shoot! Forgot about the bolt. I have two. Could have sent you one 😒
Took a few weeks for the dealer to get one in, but hey new hardware never hurts!

Nice!!

Where'd you get the tourqe wrench? I rented one when I did my front main but I'd like to have one on hand.
I got it on Amazon. Not cheap, but doesn’t hurt as bad as buying a Snapon and it had great reviews. I am happy with it and I am pretty particular when it comes to my tools.

Precision Instruments PREC4D600F Wrench (3/4" Dr. Split Beam Torque w/Detachable Head (200-600 Ft/Lbs)) Amazon product ASIN B000RT8ENE
