glad to see the thread still alive and to see you stuck with the 12HT.
this is the second 12HT i have seen dead, not bad for the 10 years they have been coming into Canada. i think you will be very happy with the results.
 
up date on the rebuild

went to eddying engine today. i am told that in two weeks they will begin putting the engine back together...... it has been a while. as you can imagine i am a little axious to get Nulla rolling again. here are some pictures; 1. turbo i got from Graeme Bentink, this turbo is design to spool at 1600 rpm. 2. the crankshaft, connecting rods are in line to get balance, 3. block is decked.:cheers:

Nulla is back on the road

happy to report that after a long wait (5 month) Nulla is back on the road with a new rebuild engine so far so good the engine runs very smooth. of all the change i made the one most noticeable is the new turbo for gbentink, it is definitely boosting earlier. i am now preparing for a 7000 mile trip so i hope to give you more report on the turbo later.

for now nulla is at the paint shop for some spot priming to protect some of the expose from the sun, when i get back the next big project among other is the painting. we are taking suggestion on the color.

Congrats, good to see her back on the road, and that she purs like a kitten.
 
we are now 4000 miles into the trip, all is well and having fun. definitely more power (yes we love the gbentink turbo). we think the suspension are also very smooth, tight no rattling. Nulla is heavy currently 7000 pounds.

it is exciting to be able to start thinking about the painting and the "camper" design. on this trip the top canvas stood up to high winds and we are happy about that. our goal on the design is to be as practical as possible so we are taking notes of our experience while on the road and camping stops. i think we might have some interesting ideas which we will share later.

there is a lot of progress on the sound proofing but it need to get better.... so we are researching on how to improve that, the main challenge is the engine compartment.

Where are you right now? i am sure there are some cruiser heads that would love to see this rig close up.

thanks goneloco, i am in washington state on tuesday i will be driving along the coast back to los angeles. i maybe picking up a hayabusa motorcycle in oregon so i am looking forward to towing a trailer, it will be a test for the Nulla to tow a trailer.:cheers:
 
It is nice to see Nulla back on the road/trail again.
 
Glad to see you are back on the upswing, sweet turbo setup and all! The axle setup looks great too!

7000lbs doesn't seem all that bad. My SF rear axle'd 62 is 6400 (2850F/3450R) loaded for long trips and will be getting more rear weight and less front within a year. I should look for a FF rear.. maybe some air bag assist.

Guy I know with another HZ'd 60 loads really heavy and is over 7000, approaching 8 with a FF rear and depending on how much rockhouding he does. He does run into suspension related breakage (leafs and ubolts) from time to time.

working on it i am getting there, i have some ideas. i wish i know how to use sketch up i would post the drawing here. basically the side of the "camper" will open upward then the storage inside will pull out creating the space inside. this will also allow easy access to the inside content from the outside. i am looking for tent fabric to enclosed the camper when the side "doors" are open and storage are pulled out.:cheers:

Center consul

one of my best investment on this build is my 211 miller welding machine. here is my center consul 100% aluminum. more to come on the inside build :cheers:

Up date

here are some updates, been busy designing the inside, installing running lights, off road lights, stereo, back up camera, final design on the canvas, sorting out electronics and some mechanical stuff.

we are also getting ready for a 3 to 4 weeks Baja trip leaving next week, Nov 17th, just found out that Baja 1000 is happening at the same time, not sure if that is good or bad. when we get back from Baja we will start thinking about painting Nulla.

If you get down this far south, shoot me an email; I am here indefinitely, before continuing to Chiapas, Oaxaca, and Guatemala in Jan/February. I know a few good mechanical shops here too if needed. Nice build! Have fun. Mike

we are on our way leaving tomm at 5am, we had a little drama today on our way out. the harmonic balancer on the crankshaft came apart, thankfully Spector off Road had one so we are on our way. where are you in Baja? i will be traveling all the way to Cabo San Lucas, i will definitely shoot you an email. any suggestions on places to hit on the way down? we will be crossing the border through Tijuana.:cheers:

Glad to see you got the harmonic issue settled fast! I am in S.J. del Cabo, living above Zippers/Costa Azul directly over the ocean.
I would hit San Ignacio Bay as the whales will be there in droves this time of year, and if you surf check out San Juanico/Punta Pequeno/Scorpion Bay; there'a new paved road all the way in now from Constitution/Insurjentes then Las Barrancas to San Juanico, or you can take the old road(worst road in Baja) to test the trucks load lashing system, and suspension.
Todos Santos is nice for a few hours. Great Palm beach near Pescadero. There are also a bunch of cool cave "rupestrian" cave paintings near the San Fransisco mtn.s after San Ignacio Bay from the hiwway- big signs now- you'll see the people with there arms raised above their heads on the sign, and new nice road up,up, up, in to the Sierra for camping.
There are hot springs coming right out of the ground on the East side if the Cape, and a "Zoo", plus Cabo Pulmo/Los Frailes area is great for snorkeling and fishing after the boundary for the Biosphere-live reef is like swimming in a saltwater aquarium...
Have a safe trip! Eat the food, heading out of Todos Santos go to "Barajas" on the right and get the carnitas, or fish tacos! Mike
 
Baja Nov 2011

HI ducatiman. will look at the map to see where you are. we left LA at 7 am yesterday. Crossed the border and headed south. 1st stop was for lobster and margaritas at Puerto Nuevo just south of Rosarito. Drove south reaching San Quintin around 6:30. We crossed the Baja 1000 racers and their pit stops lining the road. Folks thought we were part of it and cheered us on. In San Quintin we found a place on the beach called Fidel's. He lives there almost when fishing in his boat this morning He has a long stretch on the beach with free firewood and hot showers. Now eating nopalito con huevo at Mama Espinzo in El Rosario. Great food with internet.
