ah.
ok,
about the same size as the monster DavCo 234 that I already have.
Can't seem to find a place to install the thing under the hood of the 80. Just too dang tall!

Nullacruiser at 2010 Overland Expo Amado, Arizona

we had a great time and information overload. here is a short video on the four wheel track. YouTube - medium.m4v

the ride and the destination where both inspiring, our hope it to go back again next year. it was amazing to meet those who have done overland expedition, planning to do it, and those that are currently doing it.

equally important is that Nulla perform very well. cruising between 55 to 65 MPH.

we will continue to do modification in the next couple of month before our next trip in July. we have also decided to postpone the engine overhaul till we get back from our July trip. the reason is that the shop we plan to take it for an overhaul just can not guarantee that they will be done by July due to the sourcing out of the parts. by the way most people we meet told us to leave the engine alone.

nonetheless the work on the Nulla will continue, we may turn our focus to installing the canvas on the pop top...... stay tune.

Rid,

I looked for you & your rig at the expo but when I came by to check out & meet you in person, I just got to see the Nella look closed up, bummer!! When we went over to check out all the cool rides in the parking/camping lot at the expo (we were camping down the street at the RV Camp grounds, wife and kids came, so pool and showers were a must, LOL). I'm sorry that I missed you, I was looking forward to meeting you and swapping stories about our builds, maybe next time, my wife & kids really thought your ride was really killer, keep up the great work!!

i am using firestone part # W01 358 5426. want to thank you all for your input. this air spring where recommended by Over the Hill 4x4, i spoke to them a couple of times and where very helpful their # is 503 240 2824. i also spoke to firestone tech and this is the air bag recommended as well. see pictures below.

they are currently inflated at 30 psi and can be inflated up to 100 psi. as you can see Nulla is now higher on the rear, no longer has that sagging rear.

last thing i am waiting from diamond axel are the rear axel flange, then i can take it for a test drive :bounce::bounce2:

by the way, i have the ride rite firestone air springs that are now for sale brand new in the box. PM me if you are interested. i will also place them on the for sale section.

Glad those airbags worked out for you. The Cruiser looks great!

intercooler repositioned

i have reposition the inter cooler to lessen the heat sink from the engine. see picture below, the intercooler is 3 1/2 inches slanted up ward over the hood. the over all dimension of the intercooler is 3 1/2" thick x 11" wide x 24" long.

i will also put a air scoop over the hood what you see on the picture is a mock up. the mock up is 6 inches high (too tall), the final intercooler will be 4 inches high. note that the opening of the air scoop is bigger in the rear, i am thinking of designing it this way to catch the air coming off the windshield. what do you think of this design?

Do you need the hood scoop at all ?
I take it provides some sort of protection for the inter cooler?
It looks better without it IMHO.

what insulation and sound proofing to use?

i am now gonna start the work of putting insulation and sound proofing on the cab (camper) starting with the ceiling. what should i use that is light weigh but effecting insulation and sound proofing? i plan to use thin 1/4 inch panels or thinner if i can find it, any suggestions for panel? again light weigh as possible. :bounce:

thx

intercooler and injectors

here is my intercooler with a puller fan, the fan will pull the air through the intercooler and blow air to the back side of the engine, it is design so that the fan will cool the intercooler while blowing the hot air away from the intercooler. this will hopefully lessen the heat sink cause by the engine. the fan will also serves to cool the back side of the engine. this SPAL fan is rated at 1390 cfm.

the re condition reconditioned injectors from HIFLO came today, i was really impress by them, they look brand new:bounce::bounce2:

sound of the 12ht engine

here is the sound of the 12ht after the installation of re condition injectors, inter cooler with a puller fan.

the # 5 injector was filled with carbon, i think that was causing the tapping/knocking sound, there is still a bit of a tapping sound listening to the engine but i think that is normal. what do you think?

here is the link to utube enjoy YouTube - Nulla's 12ht

I wouldn't be too concerned about a tapping noise. Double check your valve clearances and call it good. You could also take your IP in and have it really checked, but that is $$$.

That is one crazy mofo build, I love it!

check. built. go.
there are a thousand places on the road where you can "finish" the build, and a thousand nights you can spend postponing the build before you leave.

but the rig you've build will already get you many thousands of km (or miles) down the road.
You could be sipping wine in Chile, watching Alpacas, while someone finishes your hood scoop. Instead of sitting online.

Why wait?

you are correct.. thanks

you are 100% correct and it will be much cheaper and fun to do it that way. but our schedule departure is sometime in 2011 because of other stuff we have to coordinate. so we will get as much done here and leave some for when we finally get on the road.

,... i am thinking of designing it this way to catch the air coming off the windshield....

Sorry, late to this thread, just checked the last page.

Not sure how you envision 'air coming off windshield' to cool engine. The 1% I can see that happening is a downdraft when you're parked facing the right direction.

Please explain. Will read all after this post and delete if my Q is answered.

edit: imagining air @ hi speed = water, can almost see a back eddy on the windshield, with the 'scoop' (which becomes an eddy-making boulder, pulling air in behind it).

and if I jacked that up, it's only my 2c worth.

there is a post here and an experiment but i cannot find it. it shows that the air coming off the windshield to the hood. however since i did that post i have tilted the intercooler as you can see facing the front and placed a fan to pull the air through the intercooler so i don't think my original design is still relevant. at this point i am still trying to figure out the king of scoop i am gonna put in.

hi cool overlander you r making , inspiring me a lot to do something like you but here in india we are short of resourses and platforms .hopefully first i will make a trailer for my lj78..glued to your therad:clap:

pop top update

here is the pop top insulated, paneled and the bed over the cab, the canvas is now being installed at the Sun City Upholstery, Huntington Beach, California. pictures of that will come later. we are getting ready for a trip.
