rear air spring/air bags installed

i am using firestone part # W01 358 5426. want to thank you all for your input. this air spring where recommended by Over the Hill 4x4, i spoke to them a couple of times and where very helpful their # is 503 240 2824. i also spoke to firestone tech and this is the air bag recommended as well. see pictures below.

they are currently inflated at 30 psi and can be inflated up to 100 psi. as you can see Nulla is now higher on the rear, no longer has that sagging rear.

last thing i am waiting from diamond axel are the rear axel flange, then i can take it for a test drive :bounce::bounce2:

by the way, i have the ride rite firestone air springs that are now for sale brand new in the box. PM me if you are interested. i will also place them on the for sale section.

bags seem like a good solution for ride quality, I'd carry 1 extra as a loose road debris could otherwise stop your journey.

Your project is coming out really great....
Any plans in the future to drive south of the border with this rig or is it going to stay in the US of A for a while?

of course i am going south of the border, as soon as i can, after i am done with the suspension and the chassi, i need to do some engine work. after the engine work then i am heading south of the border, would love to go the southern tip of baja as one of the test for the nulla, but that maybe toward later part of 2010, hope sooner....

crazy build

This is one of the craziest builds I have followed.
This has got to be a candidate for the heaviest cruiser built yet~!
For some strange reason I am very curious to see how it turns out:D
Good luck

rear axels are Longfield chromoly with a life time warranty as well thanks :bounce::bounce2:
You running chromoly or harden axle shafts, and do you have spares? Longfields? You may want to think about gussetting those axle tubes so they don't bend.

Looks more stable!

widen fender

took it for a little test drive all was good just need some alignment, i am very happy with the air bags and wider track, nulla is more stable. i worked on the fenders today and made them 7 inches wider, that space that you see will be filled in with fiber glass. :bounce::bounce2:

air bags on the front?

lot's of room, air bags on the front is on the list. i will ride it this way for a while to see if i need to do that. any experience with front air bags will be greatly appreciated. the one up side i can think of beside improving the ride is that i it will allow me to raise the Nulla in situation where i may need it, like crossing water or big bumps. on the current airbags i think i can go up another 5 to 7 inches if i need to raise the rear. ... thanks

i will continue to work on the fender today.

Nize.... room to mount air bags upp front to..:steer:

more build - back to custom off road fabrication

thanks, as you know it has been raining here in los angeles so i cannot work on fiber glass for my fender. so this coming monday, jan 25 i am bringing Nulla back to Custom off Road Fabrication Custom Off Road Fabrication - HOME so that Octavio can start working on the "rock slide", fender protection and roof rack (not sure if those are the proper name). my wide fenders will attached to the tube that will follow the contour of the fender then connect to the rock slide.

i watched your utube that was great, i do not have experience with rock crawlers. thanks again:bounce::bounce2:

Went by the shop and saw this truck, lots of mods, and so much more to do to it. Pretty cool build. I wished that I could build something like it. Keep it up!

opening the rear of the cab to access the "camper cab"

i plan to open the rear of my cab so that i can access the "camper" from the cab and vis versa. what has been you experience with this. my concern are:
1. noise coming from the camper cab into the front cab.
2. leaks when it rain.

the flexing will be very little because of the reinforcing that i have done to the chassis. (i need to do a field test on this). i will suspect that it will be less than 1/2 inches.

what other concern should i have? thanks, your input would be much appreciated.

Dust.

Also it will flex in all directions. That is to say, not just twist, but fore/aft too.

Consider how you will seal between the two. A flexible rubber membrane is likely the best way. Clamped properly to the cab and back it can be water and dust proof. Enough material is needed so it doesn't become taunt when the vehicle flexes. The rubber could be inner tube sections. You can use large patches to attach sections together.

[*]^^^ = fasteners
[*]o = something to smooth off the cut edge. I recommend a 5mm or larger radius.
[*]The clamp plate can be any piece of metal strong enough to bridge between fasteners. Thinner means more fasteners.
[*]The caulk just makes it that much more likely to seal.

The rubber seal that is used as a boot between a camper shell (topper) and a pickup truck cab. I've seen them in 3 and 4 inch widths, with varying methods for attachment.

Just did a quick google search and came up with this place:
Gas Props and Camper Shell Parts including Truck Boots
Scroll a little more than half way down the page, and you will see what Im talking about.

Also found on google, a map of camper shell dealers in the greater LA area;

camper shells - Google Maps

That said, I would think of a way to close off the camper from the cab while underway. You may have a difficult time heating/cooling all that space.

Good luck, and let me know if you need any help.

update

Nulla is still at Custom Fabrication Off Road. see picture below. here is what is being done;
1. the tubes have been removed and send for powder coating. all the tubes including the rock slide are removable (bolted on) the top of the rock slide will have an aluminum diamond plate floor when done. tube protection will also extend to the rear following the contour of the rear wheel well all the way to the back. i will post those pictures when done.
2. the rear of the cab is being opened up so that the "camper" will be access from the cab and vis versa.
3. the exhaust will run to the rear instead of it current location which is on the side before the rear wheel.
other modifications are being made and i will share pictures when they are done. i have not been able to work on the fender and roof fiber glass because of the rain. i have decided to do that when Custom off road Fabrication is done. thanks and enjoy:bounce::bounce2:

update: cab and the camper together

the cab and the "camper are now joint together, see pictures. those are two rectangular frame one for the cab and the other from the camper. they are floating on to each other to allow for the flexing. the frame on the camper side is removable so that the rubber seal will be installed later. enjoy :bounce::bounce2:
