Just a guess, but diff housing trauma messed with pinion to ring gear adjustment. Hopefully nothing broke, but with no noise and no drive, what else could it be, unless maybe a sheared pin. Good luck with trouble shooting!
Could have a clean break of the pinion. The good news is that they have a good crew and cell service abundantly all along that trail.

Made it back to the tow rigs
Was a hard day lots of winching and a lot pulling straps.
Fordyce is one tough trail not to be taken lightly !
Was very fortunate to be with a group knowledgeable wheelers and great friends.
I could not have done it without them.
They saved my bacon !!!

THANKS

Glad you made it. Anxious to hear what broke.
Yep me too.
Really weird one probably won’t be able to tear it down till next weekend.

RWD only would be unpleasant all the way back from WH1. Don't envy you. How was the flow?

Did you go in committee too? Or just bailed out that way?

Just bailed out that way.

It looked shorter going that way but in hindsight it might have be easier to go the long way.
WH2 was a real bitch !

The 'fun' part of the trail is the part after committee up to meadow lake, so you can always just slither in via committee next time and finish the trail, I guess.

Yep, We ran the hole trail last year.
It's a 7+ hr drive to the trail head for us so we like to make the most of it and run the hole trail ;)

Yeah. It's at least less crowded than the Rubicon but I didn't enjoy my last trip there much

Last year we only ran into a few groups on the hole trail and no one was at winch WH3 nice
This year the lower part of the trail was relatively empty but we talked to some people at committee crossing and they said there was at least 30 rigs at WH3 o_O not my kind of fun !

Well got it all tore down, as suspected I snapped both of the RCV axles.
right at the Birfild.
I never thought this would happen, I thought the 8” diff would let go first.

I really don’t think so. They turned freely with no perceived binding.
Most of the extra turning was just getting me back to stock.
Did the same ram on a friends 80 with out issue.
RCV claims that there axles are just as strong at full turn as straightahead.
I have been running those axles since early 2016.
At the time it was there only offering for an 80 with a 24 spline inner shaft. They now have a 30 spline 300m option a big upgrade.

My good friend came by and gave me a hand getting it all tore down.
Dan’s the man !!
We pulled the diff and inspected it just in case. It looks great.
Also pulled the control arms. They’re ready for new bushings.
