Had a pretty solid selection this weekend... That Weller Black was outstanding and the bottle was full when we started.

Yes, hard to find in many places. No, not a huge deal to go without; plenty of other good options in the same price range. I personally can't jump on board with all the others who are making it even harder to find.

I know I joked about it recently, but damned if Old Crow isn't the house brown juice in soooo many places here in NOVA. Doesn't make me wanna buy it again but it DOES seem to move quickly at the local ABC's. You know, FWIW.

Not trying to make any money (got better things to do than make $5 off of a bottle of bourbon), but my folks drive over from TN from time to time and could bring some bottles over if anyone wants. Could take a few orders if anyone is interested.

I'll buy one :)

I had a good whiskey weekend, sponsored by my friend Dillon (owner of The Modern Life Deli, in Pittsboro) theMod

Got to watch the Chiefs/Patriots game with him on the big screen and had his personal selections of Whiskey:

  • Basil Hayden's Dark Rye - Wow- well balanced, smooth and easy drinking.
  • Angel's Envy Finished Rye - Is there a better smelling whisky out there? Amazing. Taste was almost as good :)
  • Blanton's Single Barrel - Well balanced, easy drinking. Really nice.

I think Rye is my grain. Big fan of the Rye whiskeys.

The Mod has a pretty cool Bourbon Tasting club, btw.

"Come experience 5 different bourbons for $30 and lots of goodies/swag for free. Limited space available, Call 919-533-6883 to reserve your place."

Next time is late Feb - I will get dates.

Keep in mind that the Angel's Envy Rye is finished in, I believe, rum barrels, so while it is very good, it's not a typical rye. Not trying to discourage you from exploring rye at all. I have a couple that I really like. Pikesville Rye is very accessible and is a pretty good example of a standard rye. AE Rye is really good. Kind of a dessert whiskey, but it is also like $80+ a bottle.

Yea rum barrels. I'll try some more standard ryes. Maybe I am just a dessert whiskey drinker? LOL :) Dillon said his cost as a restaurant was $100 a bottle on that ..

I hope you didn't take offense to me calling it a dessert whiskey. I really really like AE Rye, but it's more of a "special treat" whiskey to me than a regular drinker.

Sounds like good group outing/meet up !!

No not at all - it is too sweet for me to be honest. I just have had a bunch of rye-heavy whisky and I seem to like it more. I just need to drink more you know? :)

I can't really stand sweat whisky.
Every once in a while ill take a swig of a honey bourbon but once a year is good enough for me.

Had a good trip to NYC. Found a few that I have been hunting and while not retail, well below full secondary. If you are up there and near Central Park 58 Wine and Liquor is killer. Shawn behind the counter is a really great guy and knows his stuff.

Damn dude. WLW is one I’ve wanted to get my hands on for a while, but I can’t bring myself to pay much over retail. Congrats on finding those.

Was able to swing by this morning before heading to airport....wow, great selection and prices were lowest I have seen in NYC! Got his card. So how much did shipping run for the ones you bought?? Was tempted to buy one of his Blantons single barrel gold label bottles but had to refrain, wife informed me our heating system died right after I left and will be over $10k to replace both heat & cooling system.....ouch!

Ouch is right... sorry to hear about the HVAC!

It was $25 to ship all of them. Which I thought was very reasonable. I did some negotiating with Shawn since I was picking up the bunch of them. All were about $75 to $100 over retail. Which for NYC and some unicorns I've been after I could deal with. The WLW was a bit more but still well below what I have seen elsewhere.

Glad you were able to stop in! I've hot him up a few times since asking about a few others and he is very quick to respond and willing to ship. I was close to grabbing one of those Blantons as well!

I hear ya! I have had a hard time as well. When he was willing to work with me on price I had to grab them. Still tough, but it was the last bottle I needed out of the BTAC so I had to pull the trigger.

BT
$27/bottle in NH
