Man! Get your priorities right!
The kid can work at Macca's to fund college surely!

I know, right? I was thinking of installing a brass pole in my daughter's bedroom for her to practice earning that college money.... 🤣

Ok my search skills ran out
Post above about trans kit. Is this the ‘basic’ trans go kit ?
TIA

this is the best write up I could find. There are two kits, and it looks like the one people are doing is the more expensive "reprogram kit".

No not trying to shame anyone. Its just hard when a milestone hits, you jump for joy and then four cancellations later you stand back and think to yourself, "does that milestone still count?"

I'm thrilled these are going out and folks are installing and so far everyone is loving it. Its just hard to watch it turn from good to bad to good to bad as a business decision with every email that comes in. AHAHAHHAHAHAHA ugh.
I have been self employed for most of my life and I think the best thing I have learned is that sticking to your guns and waiting for the right business to come your way is the best policy. There are times when I am tempted to offer a discount or reach for contracts that I might not make what I think the market has proven to support and unless the phone calls just stop coming altogether, you have to learn to be patient.

What you have created here is something that people are going to want and want bad. It's not a small expenditure of money though and people need to plan for this type of thing. I am guessing that the majority of your business so far is coming from people that have the type of coin laying around that can be spent with an abandonment that many of us "regular folks" can't pull off without at least getting into a donnybrook with the missus over. :hillbilly:

I am not ready to be on the list, but I am for sure considering this.

Just hang in there!

^^^^^ couldn’t have said any better than @Red Merle.

I’m still debating & making plans for my next property/land purchase, otherwise I’d have drilled down on a core motor to build a fresh drop-in meant to go forced from the jump, then slap plastic in your direction Joey.

As is, my banker is in charge of my major decisions ATM & cash rules in raw land purchases.

Got this as a PM, figured I'd just post it here with my responses:

Put me down for the welded version of the oil port while your at it. Thanks!

Will do.

Couple questions I’ve got that I think I got confused through turbo thread postings: Downpipe and wastegate blankets are a separate not-yet-offered addition to the turbo kit? If so put me down for those when they come out.

Correct, NOT part of the kit but will be available separate.

Are there any other ideas floating around out there that could be beneficial? To that end do you think you’ll ever be putting together an official Wit’s End Intercooler kit or methanol kit?

Yes to at least one of those

Lastly, I’ve been fighting overheating issues a bit due to a number of things (Costa Fabrications awesome but very snug/airflow blocking bumper, ARB Intensities blocking airflow into the grill, barely crowbarring in a Warn M12 winch into the tight bumper forcing relocation of steering and transmission fluid coolers in front of the AC condenser which itself had to be “gently modified” to clear the Warn, etc...) I’m winning the battle little by little (electric fan, better shrouding, cooling system refresh and I think I’m going to throw in a Ron Davis radiator) but I just wanted to know exactly what I can do turbo related to keep mitigating heat. The blankets of course, and I’m going to be adding a snorkel. The thread has mentioned ceramic coating and heat wrapping but I’m new to engine work so what parts are you referring to using this on? And finally what’s the pro/con of ceramic coating vs heat wrap?

I've been saying it since I started this project, need to get the cooling issues taken care of because think of all the issues you currently have...they will get worse. Blocking airflow definitely isn't good. But its also good you recognize it and are trying to remedy. If you haven't done the fan clutch mod or the blue fan upgrade, please do.

In a choice between ceramic coating and blanket, the ceramic is a great way to go but the blanket is also very helpful. In our application I think only time will tell. I do have one local customer that is doing both ceramic and blanket.

Feel free to copy/paste this in the thread if you think it might help others keep things straight too. I bet I’m not the only one who has read every post and lost some things along the way!

Done and done :P

Playing with some ideas for mounting the meth pump on test mule #1. Getting close.

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, I feel like we’re moving in the right direction with cooling. At the moment the temp creeps and the AC gets weak on long uphill pulls on hot days. An example being last weekend in the hills of East Tennessee, I-24 with a 10 mile stretch of 5% grade on a 97 degree day. Going to reposition some things, vent the hood (I know, controversial), replace the AC condenser and drop the nuclear option with a Ron Davis radiator. I think all of that combined with the engine working less hard thanks to the turbo will put things right since as above it takes a pretty rough situation to cause trouble as it stands.

Since I’m airing out my cooling troubles (yay puns!), anyone have any interesting placement options for the steering and transmission fluid coolers? As I said we’ve crammed all kinds of stuff in the nose of the truck and I think airflow is 80% of the trouble. What about AC condenser replacements? I’ve looked around the forums and there doesn’t seem to be any info like there is on radiator options. Ideally it would also be ~2” shorter in height than stock to easily clear the winch.

Blah blah anyway, one last thing! The blue fan and clutch mod is an either/or option right? The blue fan was the first thing I ever did when I got my truck and now I can’t remember the details.

Thanks Joey!

Mine has had the transmission cooler in front of the front crossmember for >100,000 miles.

I did the stock blue clutch years back.
Post turbo I upgraded to Joeys modified blue fan clutch.
Pre swap I was seeing temps at 200 degrees. After instal, not even close to 200.
Very happy with the huge temp difference.

Hi Guys I joined the group just to make this one comment.

Ive read only a few pages of this thread so apologies if someone else has said this.

Many posters looking for space for washer bottles etc under bonnet....

Change over to an AGM sealed battery and relocate it to inside the cab, on the floor behind the centre console.

If you happen to carry a a 5th person they can use it as a footrest.

Thats what I did and has the added benefit not being exposed to under bonnet extreme temperatures.

Every 80 owner deserves more power and you guys are so fortunate Joey has developed a near complete kit for you all with 95-97 models. We don't have mountain crossing highways here, not like you guys have. Imagine being able to maintain 60 MPH on those 10000 foot high mountain highways ... Joey has a cure. hehe ;-) You have to experience a turboed 80 1FZ-FE yourself. The potential for these engines is enormous.

I live in Australia and have a 97 model recently turbo - intercooled though still a work in progress. I was fortunate to be offered one of two new complete N.L.A Safari Turbo kits in existence through fellow member Darren McRae who I've known for over 15 years and his shop is maybe 3 miles from here. It's taken me 4 months to finally get it running and dyno tuned on petrol only at the moment. It has an injected LPG (Propane) system which is being dyno tuned early next week. 212 HP so far @ only 6psi and that's pretty much what Joey's test mule achieved. The difference is night and day. It's definitely "the best" mod it's ever had. I've owned it for near 19 years and dreamed of fitting a Safari kit for years and thought I'd never have the dollars to do it. Things change and right when i finally had some spare coin Darren sends me a text saying he'd found something he knew i wanted. hehe He's been a great help not only with the turbo but also load carrying upgrade fully track tested and passed by an engineer. last week my turbo installation was also inspected and passed by his engineer. My model range std has no cats or EGR required over here. Open loop system. Some of the mods we've done are - Higher volume fuel pump and resistor bypassed for constant 12 V supply, Rising rate fuel pressure regulator, Microtech piggy back ECU, 3" inside chassis exhaust (Sounds awesome), 100 series TD Safari Intercooler and custom pipework, Ratcheting timing chain tensioner ... Errr. It's a manual and already had a 4 Terrain clutch. I've done a bunch of other things in the last 6 months and spent a small fortune on OEM parts both local and through Joey. It's my best mate and I'll never let it go. I could of purchased maybe ... 3 same aged used cruisers for what I've spent but again, I've owned it 19 years and it's only ever had OEM parts fitted apart from obvious mods we all do. Enough bla bla blas for now. Regards John.
