Oh the fasteners are not coming out. I'll post some pics. The retainer is a choice between safety wire or a stainless hooked spring.

Customer Shaming! Why not? They shame vendors, right?

No not trying to shame anyone. Its just hard when a milestone hits, you jump for joy and then four cancellations later you stand back and think to yourself, "does that milestone still count?"

I'm thrilled these are going out and folks are installing and so far everyone is loving it. Its just hard to watch it turn from good to bad to good to bad as a business decision with every email that comes in. AHAHAHHAHAHAHA ugh.

I know you would never do that.

Business is just about the numbers.

Just when you think it's all unicorns and rainbows, you realize it all starts and ends at the outhouse......

Keep after it!

I want you to still be doing these when I get funds opened up and I can do one! I tried early on, but the kid had to go to college....... ;)

Watching and waiting and hoping to order one soon.

Aghh, I already want one, and now you throw in the sympathy card!? lol. Seriously though, count me as a serious buyer, as soon as the funds are scrapped together. Being a responsible adult has been hard watching this all come together.

I actually have the engine out and being partially rebuilt right now. Is there any suggestions for me to do now to prep for the turbo? I have read up on several of the turbo builds, but would love to hear your thoughts on:

  • Head gasket: OEM or ??? I already have a new OEM one, but don't mind finding a different one if there is a preferred one.
  • Head bolts: I have all new OEM ones, but should I trade out for ARP studs? I don't plan on going over the boost that your kit provides, or what the stock fuel system/computer can handle.
  • Head has been rebuilt and inspected.
  • I plan on tearing out the exhaust (including Cats) and going 3" all the way, because my state says I can.
  • How do we go about getting the fitting for the Oil line ahead of buying a kit? Assuming it comes with a cap...
  • Anything else you recommend while I have my whole engine out and torn up, specifically Turbo related? I already have an upgraded Blue Fan Clutch (from you). Assume the general maintenance will be done, cooling system refresh, etc. I am having the piston rings replaced and block cleaned and checked out.
  • I have seen the transmission kits, is that something you recommend with the increase in power?

Thanks!

I'll let the man reply, but I'll throw in my two cents here too. First, you are SO LUCKY to have a motor out in anticipation of the turbo--it will make life easier. Joey can mail you a bung to weld into your upper pan for the oil drain, which would be really easy to do with the upper pan off the motor. Yes, you can get a plug for it until the turbo arrives. If no TIG available, even just the supplied screw-in oil drain fitting will be super simple to do with the motor out (no 90* drill required). I would be careful with the 3" exhaust... it will make the turbo spool faster, which your computer may not be able to keep up with, causing a lean condition. If you're definitely not messing with tuning, 2.5" exhaust is the safer route. And my inner hippy must urge you to keep at least one cat. :flipoff2: :edit: running with no cats may also contribute to a lean afr for the same reason a larger exhaust would.

No, no sympathy needed. Just venting.

No worries, I'll be here.

Yeah if you are doing it for sure then I'll send you the 10AN fitting and cap for you to have welded into the upper pan. Otherwise I would suggest new motor mounts. I regret not changing mine before I started this mess.

You are maxing out at 7.25psi with this kit and although others haven't seen an issue staying OEM, I think the sampling is too small to suggest staying OEM vs going Cometic MLS.
  • Head bolts: I have all new OEM ones, but should I trade out for ARP studs? I don't plan on going over the boost that your kit provides, or what the stock fuel system/computer can handle.
Same, I'd go ARP but there is nothing wrong with staying OEM.
The wastegate won't like that. Not enough back pressure and you run the very real risk of running lean on WOT which could have drastic results.
Got ahead of myself, answered above.

Nothing comes to mind
You'll want to do the shift kit. The firmness of the shifts go well with the added torque of the turbo.

Ha! You already got it before I was done replying :p

Copy, 2.5" it is, with at least one cat. For the hippy and for the back pressure. Glad I asked. Thanks

Copy all. I actually got new motor mounts as well, just didn't mention it. Follow-on questions:
  • Any suggestions on thickness of gasket? Should I aim to stay stock, or up or down?
  • ARP Head Studs for the supra, correct? Supra Kit 2034205 is what I saw.
  • Will I be OK to do the shift kit prior to turbo? From reading, it shifts pretty hard without the extra power, but do I risk harming anything by doing that?
You guys are awesome. Thanks for the sage advice. One of the reasons I love supporting the forum members/community when given the opportunity. And the awesome products of course.

How much your block gets decked will determine the gasket thickness. Stay to stock compression.
I used Opel V6 but the actual individual bolt part numbers are the same.

No issues doing before hand and you will definitely notice. It's actually better for transmission health. Less slipping/wear.

Easy charge 10 percent restocking fee

It's kinda hard to charge a restocking fee if the item never changed hands. A non-refundable deposit would be the avenue.

However I doubt that's Joey's business model.

EDIT...he beat me to the punch.

YIPPIE!! It's all about me........I'll get mine sooner. Oh ya sorry to hear people are being jerks.

Show me what you did, don't tell me what your going to do. :flipoff2:

Just as a reminder...

anyone committing to go turbo in the future AND the engine is out of the truck, I can send you a weldable version of the oil drain port for the upper pan. Included is the cap and template.

no charge if you are getting the turbo.
