Definitely look into if the sensor needs to be calibrated. If JRP sent you a bad sensor they should replace it.
Also please post up your final mount in the gauge thread!
RAM mount should be arriving today. I will update.

Joey’s modified fan clutch is out for delivery today too. Super fast shipping. 👍🏻

So I got street raced by an ‘17-‘19 Toyota Carolla tonight!! 😂
Next to me, young kid. I got into the throttle & backed off to pace him.
I got into it again, he tried, but I pulled away from him effortlessly.
Granted, a Carolla isn’t a power-horse, but is a zippy little car.

My buddy who has a ‘94 LC got to play with it today. He said, “It has modern truck power. This is a game changer!”

He owns a ‘17 Silverado (5.3L) & newer F-150 (maybe ‘14-‘16) with the 5.0L.

He was impressed, to say the very least. 😊

He’s in-line if Joey can make it happen on the OBDI rigs. I’ve got a Utah buddy who is already scheming a hustle, hoping it happens too, to fund fun.

Today observations:

It is FUN! It really is a blast to drive!
When I started reading & following this thread, I had an ‘04 GMC Sierra Z71. I thought, “Man if my LC had my truck power (285HP) I’d be a happy clam.

Ive since rolled said truck on the Cajon Pass. Not my fault. So no real comparison, but was my intention to compare.

I now really enjoy DD the rig. It is a modern-day truck powered beast with a lift & 35” tires.

I’ll update the gauge thread tomorrow, rig is going back under the knife for Trans-Go kit, and fan clutch for total piece of mind. Oh, & wrap the main engine wiring harness.. I’m OCD.

Best $$ spent on my LC to date. 😊

You’re making a heck of a pitch for me to jump now before any talk of a fluid intercooler happened!!!
-(was really holding out to see what was going to happen in that front before I took a firm stand either way)-

I had a Bell fluid cooler that I sold about when my 1FZ supercharger sold, since I loosely think S/C demand will fall sharply with this current turbo setup.

Plus, turbo > S/C - IMO.

Either way, I only bought my 5.7 Tundra to tow as that was the glaring 80 shortcoming, and the turn radius of the Tundra & blind spots make my 80 a dream if we can talk the 1FZ **loosely** putting down the TQ of a 3UR (IIRC it’s some 325 of TQ (even the ~4500#’s of boat/trailer wet & loaded was impossible to merge into anything but sparse highway traffic IMO)

I hadn’t seen any exact posted numbers, but 100hp & 100ft/lb tq seems to be what I saw mentioned......is that optimistic or about on target?

Has anyone gotten a dyno pull or 3 who has a part-time conversion into their 80, so I can loosely see if we’re in the NA 3UR ballpark?

I’d sell the Tundra if I turbo & re-overhaul the brakes for the added HP/towing duties my 80 would go back to.........

The 3UR makes 381hp and 401ft/lbs, you aren't going to get there on 7psi with the 1FZ, but at least 85hp and 100ft/lbs is expected putting you right around 300-310hp and 380-400ft/lbs.

Thanks Ryan - so for the broad basics of TQ we’re really right about at NA 3UR levels pushing that 7psi into the 1FZ, and since I’m running 35’s on my stock R&P’s in the Tundra but have 4.88’s / 34.5” on the 80 - seems like the old “butt dyno” would see my 80 as having ::roughly:: the same grunt?

Or does this whole thing get muddy with the whatever-speed trans in the Tundra (6sp? - I really cannot get excited enough to recall anything Tundra) - I never even hit the Tundra’s ‘tow/haul’ button for the shiftpoints, the most I ever do is drop into manu-matic if it hunts gears up/down steep enough grades.
Otherwise it’s twist key, drop the trailer on the hitch & go.

Sorry Joey if I’m derailing any, but all this turbo talk has me trying to rationalize a apples-apples compare since a 5.7 Tundra is nice, but it’s no 80.
Not by a longshot.

Yeah tough to compare a Tundra on a 31" tire 4.30 gears and 6 speed to an 80. The Tundra is going to shift more, and yet feel more refined simply because it is at least 10 years newer. For serious towing I think I still like the Tundra for the wheelbase, and bigger brakes, but guys pulling 2000lb travel trailers and things this should be a game changer.

^^^^^ Well, better I get the gut-check now before I go dreaming too far on what the 80 ought to just because I give it a snail.

I do admit the Tundra wheelbase bites in parking lots (esp w/ bumpstops moved for the 35” tires / 20” bro-truck width wheels my buddy did :cautious: ) - but on the highway it sure feels far more stable when braking, you aren’t getting such a shove from trailer inertia even with the trailer brakes.

I suppose I’ll just go back to “riding the fence” for awhile on the turbo......the FZJ80 is still awesome when you don’t ask it to tow anything.

The 80 does well for what it is rated, the 2nd Gen Tundra is just rated for 2x as much. I just depends on what you need to tow.

FWIW - 80s were rated to tow 7700 lbs in other markets (Europe for sure, and probably Oz). Engine power was the real limitation here, assuming you have proper weight distribution hitch and trailer brakes.

I don’t care if my FZJ80 had 1000hp it would not tow as good on the open road as a full sized puck-up. You can’t replace the wheelbase or brakes of the larger trucks built for towing. Anyone who has towed heavy trailers with both won’t argue this point.

Like everything vehicles are a compromise. We are just lucky the 80 series does most things very well.

Now I’ll try to redirect this thread back to its original programming, Joey where is that intercooler?

381hp / 401 tq for the 5.7 - this isn't close but its better than what was - i see someone beat me to it. i scroll slow

bought 100’ so I just trim off what I need.
ok - are you supplying that in the kit or is that something to source on our own?

touche - and gratzi
