I helped out with this project while Joey document this weekend and believe you me, it's a time consuming deal, to say the least. Four people climbing around an 80 while Joey made sure that we didn't simply complete a task w/o him documenting it.
I also got to drive a turbo'ed 80 and all I can say is SCHWIIIIIING.
We were suppose to go to Starbuck's but ended up joy riding up the hills to see how a turbo works in an 80. We were around 7,000' approx elevation near Flagstaff, AZ
So, imagine an 80 on 315s+4.88s+usual armor+five people (750lbs min) going up inclines w/o downshifting.
It just doesn't down shift and my mind was having trouble grasping this concept. It was running approx 6-7 psi with Air to Air Intercooler. Before anyone asks, the power button was turned OFF. It just doesn't need it. The owner asked us "hey, what's the purpose of this power button that I've never used?"I pressed the power button to make sure that the tranny did shift more aggressively and it did. Also, the owner did the valve body shift kit deal that others with FI engines have done. That tranny seriously just "hooked" up so nicely.
Which valve body? Wholesale Automatics, The $100 one, or open it up and adjust the pressure spring?

Not that you need it, great explanation above, but the Safari systems have a similar oil tee and have had successful operating experience for about 20 years. Here's a photo.
Hmm, yeah. I mean there is really only one way to handle the oil. I just went a step further I guess by adding another port for oil temp.

My truck has been running on the $100 Transgo kit for almost 5 years and more than 2x stock power with zero issues.

Not at this price point, it would have more than doubled, almost tripled the cost of the turbo.
We averaged 12-ish on a cross-country drive which I was reasonably impressed with. The 38 gallon LR tank gave us an easy 400 mile range. Expect less with your foot in it. FWIW I jumped on it turning onto a 4-lane highway the other day and got wheelspin.

Wanted to point out the differences between the OEM cat/Y-pipe and the Magnaflow aftermarket. Mounting is identical. There is no heatshield on the Magnaflow so you will need to add one or else it gets hot under the passenger’s feet. But since it’ll all be a new downpipe setup there may need to be another solution. I think I may redo what i have on my SC’d LX. The cat on the Magnaflow is rotated to lay flat on the truck which is a good improvement. Only bad thing is my Magnaflow cat’s honeycomb dislodged itself from inside the cat shell and rattled like CRAZY!

Well after working on the turbo install last weekend there are a handful of items I’m going to be including with the turbo kit. One of those is a new tube of Toyota FIPG for the oil pan.
I have a ton of tubes now so I’m also going to be carrying them in stock.

Start up is going to be very unimpressive. A turbo actually makes the truck more quiet. I know when people ask me to start my truck up and give it some revs. They are always like, "uhhh that is it?" lol.

Exactly. Test mule #1 sounds...boring. But feels...great
While the idle sound will be the same, it'll still be impressive that someone finally made a commercial CARB turbo kit =)
I had a 86 Turbo 4runner before and the factory CT20 turbo at idle sounded the same as a NA 22re. Even with my foot into it, you could barely hear the CT20 spool up. It was a really poor attempt at Toyota's first attempt for a turbo SUV.
I'm more interested to hear the Wits End Turbo when it's running (test drive) under full load and see that the turbo spool up sounds like. The Tial WG should make for an interesting exhaust dump.

I am cool with sounding boring...when I want to feel and hear the power..I drive the Cummins. When I want a chill comfortable ride but with power to match modern SUV's i'll drive the SC/Turbo 1FZ-FE.
