Just to throw another option at you guys. I bought my 16.5" MTR's from Andy at Trail Worthy Fab last year.
They were in very good condition, probably average of 90%. Mounted and balanced perfectly, and have been running for 6 months with no issues.
He was great to deal with, and IIRC they were landed at my freight forwarder for $900. He has Baja's and some of the old school Wranglers as well as Hummer rims.

There are many sources for the military tires. With prices ranging all over the place. For our purposes we will be dealing with www.militaryoffroadtires.net. They are dependable, and very fast. But there are many many other sources for military surplus. You may find that some may he cheaper for you than others depending on freight cost and how far you are from them.

Wow I guess I missed this the first time. The military double beadlocks from militaryoffroadtires.net are $39.95!!!

http://www.militaryoffroadtires.net/product-p/h124bw.htm

So you could do 5 double beadlocks (5@$39.95)
your adapters ($749)
16.5" BFG or Goodyear 37" (5@$175)
Total = $1,823

Or

Hutchinson Rockmonster double beadlocks at (5@$420)
17" MTR's 37" (5@$365) tirerack.com
Total = $3,925

Pretty nice savings when you look at it like that!

Makes a lot more sense when you break it down like that in one post.

Well I think I found the new color for my wheels. Dig it on the sage.

Yes, I really like the powder coating color on our 40th Sage Land Cruiser. We use that powdercoating a lot on engine bay pieces and wheels for sports cars our client's bring by. It is a dark metallic bronze color with a 70% gloss level. If you'd like we can powdercoat your wheels in the same color as well.

Thanks for the orders so far guys. We've got the CNC shop working on the machining process and should be shipping out within a few days.

It's probably been answered before, but why does the military take these tires and wheels off their Humvees if they still have 85-90% tread left?:confused:

Some of it is "Use or Lose" money, some of it is decomissioning of equipment, many times the government will decomission equipment that has barely been used, and another part of it is the much higher weights of the HMMWV now compared to their service entry date. A new Humvee in 1984 when it was introduced was 5,200lbs, where as a current M1114 up armored truck with weapons ring and full load out is 12,100lbs. Which necessitated higher load rating wheels and tires, leaving the lower rated stuff for people with old land cruisers.

Then should I be concerned about the date code on the tires?

Okay, so I have balls enough to openly say I am iggnorant when it comes to tires setups.

(Was always into German sports cars until I recently contracted the "rig addiction.")

Anyway....so is it correct that I would need 4 of the rims from the pik attached. The wheel spacers and any h1 tires??

(I wouldn't have openly claimed how dumb I am regarding wheels, but I couldn't PM a pik)

Also, fellas...what size lift would be recommended with this setup?

{edit}
Or I can but 4 of these (tires and rimes) as well as the spacer and I am good to go??

I would certainly ask the surplus seller how old the tires are, and the condition as well as getting pics of the actual tires you will be receiving. Just because they are 90% doesn't mean they don't have sun damage etc. but I would do this with any set of tires that wasn't brand new. There are lots of reputable surplus sellers out there but there are some looking to make a quick buck.

I couldn't agree with this more. I've also heard of people getting crap tires just to turn around and the seller request that the buyer freight it back on their own expense before they will warranty it.

:lol:

Where do these people come from? :lol:

Thank you for posting your experience. :beer::beer:

I've been pretty happy with the quality and speedy service from www.militaryoffroadtires.net for.the wheels and tires. Here are the latest set of tires we received from them. They said 80% or better tread. Bit this looks like nearly 90% to me. I'm not sure if it's always the case, but another thing to consider is that these military vehicles usually dont see as much driving on pavement and concrete that we do in our street driven vehicles. So.the tread ks not worn down as quickly as our street driven vehicles.

Looks like we should have 7 more sets of these wheel adapters finished up by around the 15th of May. 4 sets are spoken for so far. Will get either batch started up as soon as these are finished and shipped out.

Please let me know.if.you have any questions.
