I ahve a mysterious black box with a 1970's chip in it under the dash, it looks like it ges to the ignition? Is it an aftermarket alarm? Any ideas are appreciated.

Mr T didn't add that. The thing seems to have a key of some kind, looks like it reads PSP-1 over on the right side? Is that right? Any other markings on the "key"? Or on the back of the box?

there are no other markings, just the ones on the "key".

Definitely a Loctronics security system component.

thanks that will help with the reverse engineering removal

sometimes installed together with an aftermarket alarm - depending on how it's wired, might cause problems with the alarm if removed

I bought a truck once that had one of those on there. It was wired to kill the ignition by the dealer. I think they could use the same plug to add a security system if you wanted to buy it.

If I parked my truck in a questionable area, I'd just pull that board and keep it in my pocket.

Like others said - Don't lose it!

Anyone have any information on how to properly remove one of these stupid things? I started the process of doing a full alarm system removal, and this thing is spliced into the alarm system harness under the steering column. Right now I'm at the point of no annoying alarm going off (YAY!), interior lights, door buzzer works, but still no start with the key.

If you unplugged, the POS fuctry alarm, you need to replug everything back in, the left hand kick panel, you will see a bunch of plugs that are not plugged in, make sure you did not miss something Oh yeah take the pig tail from between the harness and ignition hope this helps

Yeah, I did that, I guess I need to go back and triple check everything because I've obviously missed something. Or I didn't put some of the truck side harnesses back together tightly enough. Next step would be the test light and multi-meter. I hate wiring.

I had not unplugged everything. All set now, and the alarm is out, no more honky wonky good times every time I go to start it. In regards to the harness or brain box...is there any real value or need for it? I do not plan on installing any other aftermarket alarm in the future. What else could it be used for?
