That's not you welding, is it Snow?

Sorry, went hunting, haha no that's not me welding that's nick, although I too am a flipflops and shorts kind of guy.

Well I got a few things done right before and after our hunting trip.

Installed some 4.10 differentials, she is happy now.
Moved my bumper bar down and mounted my fairlead, as well as spooled up some new steel line thanks to mike for giving it to me my old one was pretty ratty.
Pics will come.

Well trying to keep myself going and motivated.

That 60 is the coolest looking truck in the group!

Snow... Good to see you're still out and about. Looks like a good time you had there.

J

Yea I am still here, just to many hobbies I guess. The wife is working me to work on the truck more but she wants me to sacrifice others things to do it haha. We looked at a locked 80 for her the other day it was cheap but had to many problems. Thats when she realized I think that if I am never done with mine then I will never work on hers. And she wants that turbo diesel lol.

Thanks wyoming! unfortunately I look at her and all I see is so much thats isnt done yet!

We're all like that. That is why this sight is so cool, the members look past the blemishes to the stuff most folks don't see or appreciate.

I know how you feel though. I have rebuilt the axles and fame and everything else and installed a Cummins, but the body still looks like unmitigated !@#$, and the whole thing just looks like it's owned by Super Redneck. I just wish I could get to the final version where it looks like Marley or one of those really nice looking trucks, but until then...

Thanks for that Wyo, I love how encouraging people are on here.

Here we go, I dove into the fenders finally! everything so far went very smooth, got both pieces bent up and one welded on. Tomorrow I am going to try and weld the other up and finish nicks OBA. Sheet metal will have to come at a later date.

Well those pictures make it look like Nick did all the work! overall I am happy so far it feels incredibly strong and I can always add some support in the middle section like a up side down J

We also cut down my rear rocker panels a few inches.

I really like that idea for the fenders.
I need to rework my front fenders and the rears could use some freshening up too, so I might be doing something similar down the line.
Keep up the good work and the build will be over before you know it.

Nice work Snow, I knew it was someone else working in the pics, he didn't have flip flops on ;)
There's one thing I am confused on, and maybe I have it wrong on my side... You said your tires weren't siped, but isn't the siping the tiny little grooves in each lug of the tire? Or am I missing something?

Danny

Thanks Steve its been in my head for a while, its the sheet metal work that is going to be a bigger and that's been holding my off. But that's where nick will come in he can bang metal like no ones business.

Tallcan are you talking about the slits in the middle of the tread? Shaped the same as the thread lugs, V'a and L's. I don't think that's dsiping, and I know they cone that way from the factory. I thought siping was more along the lines of taking a razor blad say ten times to each tread. It would be hard to see but each tread would be able to flex and seperate. I could be wrong though.

thats kinda cool

Since those fender bars are welded to the frame are you going to solid mount the body to the frame or is that just temporary until the sheet metal is filled in? If not temporary you'll probably end up with some issues of having the body moving differently than the frame when wheeling.

Damn boots! I didn't even think about that. Probably going to have to solid.mount the rear body mounts I guess. Thanks for bringing that up, maybe I will eked in the sheet metal and take it out after primer and see how it acts. The bars have a slight amount of flex in and out but not up and down... I'll have to think this one through.

Snow you keep adding things to my to do list  what you can do is weld a couple of springs between frame and the tube just make sure it's lighter then the body mount rubber

Springs like so the body doesnt unload on the mounts too far? The body mounts look like they are less then a inch, so I can imagine them compressing more then 1/4" which out at the sides would be more. But how much that can "unload" I have know idea.
Or just some alu or hpe plastic or something body mounts.

I think what I am going to do is this, weld up the other side and before I do the sheet metal work I will mount a camera to the body right at the gape, take her through some twisty's and see how much it moves. Then I will go from there.

Unless any one has some more bright ideas.

I don't think your body will move far what will do damage is vibrations; what I would do is go get some springs from tractor supply or homeshitpo, a chunk of rubber would probably work to just make sure it's as flexible as the body mount.
