Had to cleaned up the fuel flap and rubber seals

IMG_5994.webp

Some of the old hardware was brown and some needed another coat of epoxy to strengthen the plastic trim, the winders were too light a colour.

Painted the fuel flap, cleaned and refurbed the plastic and rubber, then soaked them in lanolin grease and sunlight for a couple a days.

Starting to come together now as I fit off all the small hardware and windows.

IMG_6044.webp

All the rubbers and seals are are making it look and feel finished. The doors sound nice and solid as I add weight and loose fittings are all buttoned up, along with the sound deadener and door cards.

Fitting new seat belts and trying the triple loop bar (couldn't wait till I moved) over the next few days. I have one week till we move house and will start the pack up of whats left in my shed as of boxing day. Hoping to drive him to the new house registered.
Have a great Xmas everyone.

Getting down to the finer details now, its like process of elimination. Finding heaps of bits and pieces lost on racks, it's like I couldn't see the trees for the forest.

Fitting as I box up the shed, might as well go on the truck than lose it in the move.
Protection plates for the fuel filler neck and bash plate for the radiator line and belts.

IMG_6099.webp

Rear vents including inners all cleaned and installed.

IMG_6104.webp

Fitted Grab handle and pinch weld rubbers, rear vision mirror.

Pinch weld rubbers for the rear, modified the end caps to suit the drawers.

Over Kill...... it's so under rated!!
Cleaned and polished the Tags, then clear coated them in high heat paint before putting them in oven for an hour and fixing them to the fire wall.

@drujba Yes, well picked, went on a day after the photo.
Finding it hard to do everything at once as I have to make it look like I'm packing up as well. For some odd reason the wife thinks I'm getting side tracked and won't have the shed packed in time.....like I'm fixated on the cruiser or something.....Pfft.

IMG_6124.webp

Sold 75% of the "left overs" from my build. Met some great contacts with Mid wheel base builds. Still amazes me how Land cruiser parts have a currency all of its own.
Swapped some parts and a coupla bucks for a damaged FRP roof which I picked up today on the way back from one of my tip runs.

Quick hour and a half and I sorted out a shape I was happy with. Not sure if to go white or black so I'll probably give it a quick coat of rattle can black to see how it looks in a few weeks, then when I've sorted colour out I will do some fibre glassing, sanding and paint it. Might even use a stipple effect.....not sure yet. Even fitted the triple loop front bar.

Thinking I'll fit a long red LED brake light under the back overhang. Maybe.

IMG_6121.webp

Oh yes and he was registered yesterday, done about 70KM here and there on the road.
Starting my prep for his first major 4WDing to Landcruier Mountain which is fitting on Australia Day. Has heaps of tracks and is about 3 hours drive from where I live.

Did some more late night prep for the trip.
Started with some door pods for my speakers, which I got off "market place" from a guy who had them for his 79 series but went another way and also fitted some tweeters into the top of the door cards.

UHF radio, which I temporarily fitted into the ashtray with cable ties till I make or buy a roof console across the top of my windscreen.

Also need wait for the manufacture to make ones for power windows.

They're great guys, and always adding new inventory, but unless someone else sends them power window door cards you would be better off sending yours as templates when you are ready to pull the pin.

The plastic buttons don't match the vinil panel .

I was trying to live with them, although it was a struggle every time I looked at them.
Now...next time the blue/grey 2pac and plastic primer comes out I'll have to paint them. Thanks mate.

Me and my son started the wiring for the sound system and a couple of gauges. Got the gauges going and the UHF but ran out of time for the sound system but getting closer.

My rear wall got pressed up and the window was cut out but again ran of of time before heading off.
It did confirm after the trip that the cabin definitely needs sealing to keep the dust out and the aircon in, so I will make this my next priority to shape and fit.

This is some literature on the 4WD park.

and on our way

Started gutting my new house so not had much time for any car work, but over Easter I managed to put a day aside and started prepping my roof so I can give it to Ken for a paint job. Decided to run with a Smooth finish on the exterior in 2pac white to match the body work. The stipple finish on the outside was easy to remove with 80 grit sandpaper, but the interior liner was a real PIA to remove. The top layer peeled off easy and ended up pouring thinners on the foam insulation while it was upside down and used a sharp spatula to scrape it off. Probably run with a grey marine carpet over some heat insulation after its painted.
I also received my above windscreen console the other week which came about because "the department of interiors consoles" was discontinuing a certain range and I bought the last display one.

First I filled the cavities with expanding foam from a can then shaped it.

IMG_6761.webp

Then I used some chop and woven mat before glassing it.

IMG_6763.webp

IMG_6795.webp

I ended up removing the factory sponge from the 2 centre divots as they were still soft in the centre after glassing.
I also reconditioned the rubbers. I am going to reinforce where the FRP badge normally goes with more matting and resin
before putting the steel spacers back on. Thinking of a different emblem for the outside though.

This is the console model I got with lights, although mine has a switch panel at the hump with two openings at the side. i'll adjust it to suit my needs later.

Finally got round to doing some more work on the car. Nothing like going camping and wheeling to motivate you.

Used a bit of cardboard to template the back wall shape before cutting some ply to follow the rebate in the factory roll bar.

IMG_7236.webp

IMG_7250.webp

I then used the ply as a template to shape the aluminium and used some 2 part waterproofing sealer and a single component membrane I had left over from my bathroom to seal the ply, which was a close colour to my roof console.

IMG_7257.webp

The rear sliding window is from a UAE spec Toyota Landcruiser.

IMG_7255.webp

IMG_7245.webp

IMG_7248.webp

I cleaned the mounting brackets and riveted them to the FRP top which I had reinforced with some fibreglass matting earlier.

IMG_7274.webp

I also installed some recovery points and had some sliders made and installed.

IMG_7249.webp

IMG_7278.webp

My son manufactured a bracket and tapped some threads in it so I could extend the diff and fuel breathers in case we went through any water while camping. I ran them up inside the cavity above the wheel arch on the drivers side.
