Ooooooooohhhhhhh. You have people drooling right on the other side of the world Marshal.

Late Night at the Firehouse ... Its been Good reading the posts so far !!! Now I must say Goodnight --- I'm going back to the Bunkroom with a bunch of my Gay Fireman Friends!!!

Have gotten little done lately. Have been working on getting my 55 on the road after 23 years. I've promised myself I would have it done before GSMTR so I could wheel.

Today I finished up mounting the braces for the fuel lines or so I thought. I just realized the one on top of the valve cover will prevent me from pulling the cover. SO back to the drawing board.

Also mounted the Alt and A/c brackets back up.

And realizing that the color crap is getting out of hand. It would have been so much easier to just have bolted this thing back together and hit it with black spray paint.

Why dont you tape off all the panels and paint them a different color?

I just love this thread Marshall :beer:

You're expressing your "artistic side". Go for it and don't hold anything back!

You mean Like This? :D

BTW, the correct formed hose is still available from Toyota for the t-stat to upper oilcooler pipe. Highly recommended over a slightly kinked generic hose.

You read my mind as I was in the process of ordering these. That hose I have on there just plain sucks.

Exactly!

I didnt know they had their own name for that "style"

My Gay Engine is not ready to come out of the engine bay. I'm kind of digging the rusted, orange, faded, mold growing, missing paint color.

Also a little tech. Went on a hunt around town to find a 1/8 bspt to 1/8 npt. Finally found one. Autometer sells one. You can pick it up at most auto parts box stores that sell Auto Meter. Was around $9.

Came home to realize that I wouldn't even need it since I'm gonna be running the 1/8 npt gauges through the oil cooler. Also bought a oil low pressure warning light and switch through summit was aroun 13 dollars. Cuts on at 20 psi. I know that's a little high for some of the low rpms I'll be doing but I figured it was better to be safe than sorry.

Also machined the 3f headers myself last night. Ruined a nice router bit in the drill press. The went to a die grinder bit which worked well. Then used a dremel for the rest. Worked fairly well. I need to braise one area since chuck decided to come out of the drill press. Tomorrow it's off to the powder coater to be ceramic coated.

You sending the header out to a local coater or to Jet Hot? Be interested in the price if local and if they coat the inside as well as the outside. Got a quote of $225 (includes return shipping) to do a set of Downey 3 into 2 headers. They claim to coat inside and outside and the coating is good to 1700 degrees. (They do offer a 2450 degree coating.)

You can also get colors with their coatings Blue, gray, RED, Gloss Black and Chrome. Me thinks your gay engine lacks chrome... :grinpimp:

I was quoted $100. Must be a SC thing. They are local. I'll ask about the inside outside thing as this is all new to me.

Their website says outside only

Headers not cast iron manifolds.

I will verify in the morning.

Got some more work done this afternoon.
Mounted the Vac Gauge. (Still need to work on sealing it up and poke a small hole in the bottom). Cut off and filled one of the emissions pipes.

Also drilled on oil cooler bolt. What a pain. Somehow I didn't have a cobalt bit that was the right size had a titanium cheap bit though. Got maybe a 16th of an inch in before it gave up. Even the drill doctor didn't help. Will be picking up a new cobalt bit tomorrow.

The color of your intake manifold envy, keep it up, particular to the engine bay gauging, putting those on my gotta do list. Wondering though, are those untreated steel bolts mounting the carb base to the intake manifold? If so the the aluminum is going to light them up. Might I suggest a fine bouquet of stainless steel bolts instead.

Where is it and what color did you paint it?:D

Ed

I have it. After looking at the inside I decided it had too much restriction. I need full flow especially for the shower heat exchanger. But dont worry I will incororate it somwhere on the engine. + you name is on it. Really, in big gay colors.

Millennium Performance Coating

Just got back for the powder coater. Learned a lot of new stuff.

If it's new cast iron headers he will guarantee the coating on the inside. With old he won't but he will coat the inside for that price.

He said rust and oil are the biggest reason the stuff won't stick. He blasts them but on cast iron the oil and rust have a tendency to fill the pores. He does soak the cast manifolds in acid to remove most stuff.

On regular headers if they are new metal no problem. Old and rusty and he cannot guarantee the coating.

He has three color. Black, silver and chrome.

Chrome is more expensive ($140 for 6cyl cast iron headers) it also only is rated up to 1400 degrees where as the silver is up to 2000 degrees.

On painted or oily headers he says he heats them in the oven at 1000 degrees to burn any paint and oil out of the system then hits them in a blast cabinet.

Also said he can do this over chrome.

Other colors are available but he doesn't recommend them because they have issues at higher temps. I stuck with silver for $100. You couldn't really tell the difference. Really nice guy. Said he would take ship in orders. Probably take a few sets of stock manifolds I have and have him do them.
