This may be a noob question, but Ive run yota, Ive run lucas DOT 3 whats the best to run in these setups? Oh by the way word is a big brake kit is almost done, think colorado. Whats the best non fading juice for these pigs??

Dot 4 has better specs, is backwards compatible with dot 3 and the talk of it absorbing water proved untrue. Both dot 3 or 4 will work, but why would you not use dot 4?

What's the availability out on the trail and in the tiny little towns nearby?

Same reason to switch to green coolant.

Oh yeah? You got any details??
Im going to hit him up in AM and see if I can blab everyone knows him so it should be badass and yes Im doing it.

Depends on the intended use? In my case, like to go far away from services as often as possible. Every rig that I travel with takes DOT3, shared spares supply, little country stores are most likely to have DOT3, commonalty. The DOT3 specs exceed the need, have only seen problems with it when very old. Personally don't see the point, nothing to be gained.

So DOT3 and there is no better brand? Is this what your saying?? the lucas seemed thin if that makes sense

Bottom line dot 4 has a higher boiling point and cost is basically the same as dot 3 so using dot 4 is a no brainer. That said boiling point are not equal on all dot 3 or 4 so check the label.

DOT3 is a spec, more the same than different. Lots of brands talk about how cool you will be when you run their overpriced stuff, in the real world, have never found a detectable difference. IIRC, mine has supertech in it.:hillbilly: In our experience fresh/clean fluid is best, so we change it often, regardless of brand, type. Our military trailers came with and call for silicone fluid, flushed it out for DOT3, so it's the same as the rest of the fleet.

My last flush was with this.

Something cheap and change it out often, think I am using synthetic Valvoline ® DOT 3 & 4 brake fluid.

I used Valvoline DOT 3+4 synthetic brake fluid. From what I understand, synthetic fluid does not absorb water which causes corrosion as with normal brake fluid. Also, since there is no water present, the fluid cannot "boil" and cause brake fade under hard usage.
DOT 5.1 should be even better.

Just to clarify my earlier post.....ALL dot 3-4-5 brake fluids are synthetic. There isn’t such thing as non synthetic brake fluids. It’s good marketing to put synthetic on the label though.
