My 2003 LC 100 gets parked at the airport for 2-3 months at a time, in a very cold climate. Which battery would serve me better for being parked for extended periods, the Costco 27F or the AGM 24F?
Honestly you might be better off with a portable jump pack (like a NOCO GB50 or similar) that you can bring with you on the plane assuming you are flying there. Maybe even disconnect the battery so it doesn't drain down, but I would guess you want the alarm to still be active.

Public parking lot, or private hanger?

Very cold climate =/= Houston, TX.

If you've got access to power, a trickle charger.

If you don't, a battery disconnect, and a jump box.

My vote is to just disconnect the battery if you don't have a way to trickle charge it. Non lithium batteries don't like being constantly ran down.

Just my 2 cents…my lx470 duralast autozone battery (regular wet cell) was replaced last year with a toyota truestart and it was ~ 5.5 years old and was running perfectly fine. Reason for replacement was changed of starter and alternator so might as well replaced the battery, i was supposed to get agm duralast but my parts guy offered me truestart at $127 out the door with good warranty. Just to add another data point about duralast agm, my other car (seldomly use) had a duralast agm that lasted almost 7 years before giving up the ghost, replaced it with sam’s club duracell agm june of last year.

I just swapped my Interstate 27F that failed under warranty for a MTZ-34R AGM plus the dollar difference. Stopped at Interstate store in Georgetown, TX.

This thing has a 4 year free replacement warranty and hopefully is worth it. Came with a bottom spacer to fit. Nice looking battery.

You may want to look into one of the “voltage boosters” to get the most out of your AGM battery…

Something like this (or other alternatives):

Interesting. What does this help do? Why is it good? I’m not informed.

Pushes your alt to charge to 14.4-14.6 which agms like

AGM batteries have a slightly different charging profile, the voltage booster “tricks” the charging system into providing more voltage, so the AGM battery can reach “full charge”. It’s less ideal than a modern charging system, that has the built in intelligence to deal with an AGM battery, but it’s better than never getting beyond a partial charge.

What's the normal level for the lx470 alt to charge at?

Does this have any adverse impacts to the alternator or electronics?

Not that I’ve noticed.

“AGM batteries are designed to require 14.6v – 14.8v when performing a full charge from a state of discharge, whereas standard lead acid batteries need 13.8v – 14.4v“

I see 3 options listed. Do you know the tradeoffs of each?

I gotta do more research.

I’ve only used the “MK3 Mini blade 7.5A (Electronic fuse version)”, as it made the most sense to me, YMMV.

Another option that has proven successful for me is to use a charger once a week like the NOCO. I have been using this method on my T4R where I have a group 31 in the starter location and run a fridge 24/7. Going on 6 yrs now with that configuration.

I actually installed it where the 2nd battery would be and ran the plug end over to the grill that way I can plug in conveniently when needed.

I put in a Duracell group 49 battery ~ made a 3/4" plywood base/spacer with rubber on top to get the top up to stock height.
100 Ah
1105 cranking amps / 900 CCA
185 min reserve capacity
About $160
