I just purchased a 24F-AGM Duralast at AutoZone for my LX470. It was rated as one of the best by consumer reports. I believe the 24F also fits our LandCruisers.

I still like my Legend 75 series 49 battery. Had the fridge plugged in for several months and running. I drive daily and have not experienced any failure. Lowest I've seen on my Scangauge was 12.9 after overnight running. When the day comes to swap it out, I'll probably bite the bullet and got Series31 AGM for peace of mind.

another vote for group 49 agm!

got it at sams for 200 otd for a duracell agm which is made by east penn.

running fridge like a champ..

Thanks for the reply! Did you type the Scangauge overnight voltage wrong?

No. It shot up to 13.8 within a few seconds of startup. My fridge is set with the "high" cutoff meaning it's super sensitive to voltage drop. I have the Amazon "Costway" fridge which is a little less efficient than the ARB/Dometic equivalents. It is also $400-500 less.

Keep in mind that I never unplug my fridge and it's been in a constant on state since January. It ran for 2 days once without turning the truck on and I was able to start up with 2 cranks. I do think the AGM batteries are better as they handle discharges better. Mine will wear out faster for sure. But, at the time, it was a budget choice until I could afford a quality AGM later.

I bought the same. The first one died after a year and they swapped it for another one without a problem. good thing about autozone is they are everywhere and your info is in the computer.

My thoughts exactly. It doesn't do much good to have a warranty if your battery dies while you are on the road miles from home unless you have the ability to trade it in locally. Your best bets for many locations are Walmart or Autozone.

Would you guys still recommend the Napa 49 battery? I noticed you guys installed the regular version of this battery, not the AGM one. Did you do that for more RC? Have you had any terminal corrosion? I'm not sure if I want the 160RC AGM version (to match the oem 160RC) or the 185RC regular version for more capacity. I have AGM's in my other 2 DD's but thinking of more RC's would be better for the 100. I do keep my batteries topped off with a CTEK charger. Thanks!

Mine is still going strong with no issues!

The H8-AGM from Autozone is another option that fits without any modifications. I bought it for another vehicle and decided to try it out in the LX - it fit great so I decided to leave it in. Specs : 1000ca 900cca 160 reserve are good and it is German made.

Haha, In my prior post I was asking about the (Napa/Sams Club) Deka 49 AGM but typed the (Walmart/Autozone) Varta 49 AGM specs.

Walmart has the 24 Agm with 5 year free replacement for $150

Where did you buy a German made battery?

We have gotten over +10 years of service from German made Varta batteries but, I am lucky to get 4 years from autoparts store batteries.

Just grabbed one from my local autozone, says made in Germany, got the same battery he did.

Would you mind sharing the name on the battery because I am interested!

I bought the autozone H8 German battery. It seems very nice, but does require a spacer at the bottom to make it fit well. However after reading more I took the H8 AGM battery back and got the Napa wet cell group 49. I again used a group 34 spacer and it fit well. The reason for the wet cell over the AGM is to keep it simple.

@mmm635 Doesn't this require a spacer or some sort of modification? The reason I ask is if I go to Autozone website, it say's it doesn't fit my hundy

Hi All,
Figured I'd add my experience here and try to summarize my findings after I spent the last 10 days or so doing a bunch of research and comparisons. My interstate OEM-style (27F) battery starting giving me trouble and ended up completely dying shortly thereafter right at about the 3 year mark a month ago. (shout out to Mudrak who replaced this for free for me when my vehicle was in his shop in Sonoma, CA getting suspension and E-Lockers done back in Dec. 2018!)

TL;DR: I went with Advanced H8-AGM, Brand: DieHard which is same price ($210 after $22 Core, $200 out the door with 10% military discount), stats and manufacturer as Autozone H8-AGM (Duralast). It drops in to my 1999 LX470 perfectly, being approximately 1" wider to each side, but the bottom has a form so it locks in the OEM battery tray despite the overall battery being a little wider. I then cut a 6.75" x 3.5" x 0.5" (thick) piece of wood from scraps I had lying around to sit on top of the battery as a spacer for the OEM bracket to go over and hold it down, as this battery is a little shorter than the OEM one. All is good now with way more CA, CCA, reserve, etc... as others have mentioned over stock.

More in depth notes: I ended up shopping a local Interstate, the Toyota dealer, Advanced, Autozone, and O'reillys (Roanoke, VA).

Toyota wanted $180 for the OEM Truestart brand. Interstate wants $165 for their OEM battery with the same stats as the Toyota Truestart. Some of the other big names had the OEM 27F in stock and some did not across 2-3 stores of each in the general area. Their pricing is all over the board as well for the different levels of batteries they have that match OEM, with most of them having the same exact stats for CCA, CA, etc, although there is some variation in the regular/silver, gold, platinum versions along with the different warranties.

I went with Advance because they were the only place close that had the H8-AGM in stock, and I wanted the H8-AGM battery based on reviews, IF I could find it. As noted the batteries from Advance and Autozone are the exact same price, and stats. I couldnt find information on the manufacturer of the O'Reilly's H8-AGM battery, however the price and stats on that one are the same as the other two as well. They told me they couldn't even order one and get it here in a reasonable timeframe like they usually can all other parts which I thought was odd. Warranty is the same from all three manufacturers as well.

My local Walmart did not have the OEM or AGM batteries in stock, so I didnt look in to them much further. I didn't shop Napa or the wholesale places at all because I dont have memberships to wholesale clubs, and honestly I was pretty over it at this point, so just went with the closest place that had the H8-AGM.

This got long, but I hope it helps someone out there. On Paper the H8-AGM should be one of the best batteries without getting into the $300+ range. I guess time will tell. Will try to post back if I end up with a bad experience, but if I get another 3 years I'm happy with that. The 100 has 4 circuits of extra lights (and counting), a winch, and a fridge that stays plugged in almost 100% of the time. If not for those things I would have stuck with stock Toyota/Interstate.
