It looks like that camera would be powered on all the time the way they showed it. I like the style of the OP's camera because it does not involve drilling and looks good. The license plate frames won't work for me. I like a sleek look.

That's what a trigger is for. They're all worked like that. Either on all the time and sending or off with the reverse switch. Shoot I forgot about the drilling! lol.

Interesting. He showed wiring the trigger to 2 wires on the back of the unit. I wasn't quite sure how that would work.

patineto, I think you might have a point. But I'm not positive it matters in these instances. I don't think anyone would wire their headunit trigger AND the cameras +12 to their tail light, but it should work just fine. idk. maybe

TX, I don't think he did. there's only one trigger from a stereo for a trigger. In some rca wire systems there could be a bare red wire carried with the long RCA plugs that can serve as the trigger connection to the stereo or anything else you want it to be. In most cases, the red ACC line that connects to the camera. for power.
IF RCA with bare red wires on both ends you could use that to connect to the stereo trigger and the camera end bare wire to the reverse light.

red camera wire to cig lighter acc, or whatever ACC, anywhere in the car
black to ground right next to it, anywhere in the car
2 wires to headunit, or RCA to headunit.
Then you have picture with ACC on.


Trigger from deck to car reverse signal, anywhere in the car. Then you have auto on display input from the cam. That's the only reason there is a trigger wire, to tell the screen to switch inputs.

Those are boyo cameras and harnesses in the video. A three part harness is a way better install to a new deck. At $65 I think I would not buy from ali, there are just better options.
A small pigtail at the camera, and small pigtail at the stereo, and a long travel bundle harness with small ends to push though holes. An install like this is a no brainer, providing you find a reverse trigger up front. (if you want it triggered) There are many, under seat, under shifter, behind glove box, and at least one side lower kick panel. Personally I would not tap into reverse lights, or use a relay.

someone asked about replacing the stock LC cam with aftermarket, remember that the LC, 4runner etc, and most likely lexus lx have stock 6VDC cameras. The cam ecu is under the pass seat.

Good to know that the OEM camera uses 6 volts. Just need to find the FSM for the 2015 RX, lol. Although, the price makes sense if one is looking to added the moving guidelines. This was one feature my mom and other folks at clublexus.com were really salty about, lol. From what I could gather for vehicles with this factory standard, information from the steering wheel sensor is read by the back up camera ECU and used to change the guideline curvature. It's neat that this camera overcame that issue with a built in gyro sensor.

Lostafrican how did you know what was the reverse light wire in there? I’m installing the exact camera based on this thread (thanks btw) and that’s the only thing I’m not sure of. I do have a very similar connector in there... tempted to splice and see.

2. Then follow the instructions here: Upgrading Lexus Premium Stereo+Amp in a '98 LX470.

Especially this link here for which wire to splice for the 22 pin cable: Stereo Wiring: Land Cruiser / LX 470 (1998-02).

3. And follow this link to install reverse camera and run up the cable to the head unit: DIY Backup Camera Install 2002 Lexus LX 470 w/ Factory Nav

4. Then connect the appropriate spliced wires to NEX wires describe in this link: : .

Also, connect reverse camera red wire to the NEX reverse wire (puprle) for reverse camera view only when in reverse.

Interesting! I missed that when using that page to do the amp bypass. So I can. Just tap into ECU connector E8 Pin 2 for my reverse signal. Is that right?

@janz3n I just used my meter and probed the pins on the connector until I found the right one. I knew it had to be there since the reverse light is in that connector by tracing the wires. You can put the car in reverse in key "ON" but not running and the reverse light is activated. I have an 01 LX so should be identical coloring etc for you. I think I included a picture earlier in the thread. I just made sure the one I found turned on and off with the reverse gear selection.

For NAV I don't use my head unit. I prefer to use WAZE on my phone which is mounted so that I can use my finger on my phone while my hand is still on the wheel.

Well it’s all working but the picture is very yellow. Tried playing with the settings to no avail. I also notice that for a second when it goes from reverse to park/drive the picture gets very very orange.. could it be wiring/noise or probably just cheap/defective camera?

Looks like a crappy camera to me. Uncalibrated color balance and/other firmware issue. I say ask for an exchange.

Btw in planning on ordering one of these pronto.

Sorry because this might not be the answer you’re looking for but I tapped in to the power in the rear area by the jack using a voltmeter checking for the power when I’m reverse and dead when not.

From the pic it looks like red with black stripe
