I thought about it, but ECGS has a proven track record and offers a 5 year warranty. Waiting to see if they offer any Black Friday deals.Has anyone tried one of these ebay remanufactures?
Most wanted different gear ratio. This only available with stock gear. They come from overseas, so any problem you would be on your own.Has anyone tried one of these ebay remanufactures?
I’m planning on sticking with 3.73 stock gearing and I just want the 8.2” rear with a locker. I’ve been reading things on various forums about the “stock” e-locker swap. It seems stout enough for my needs and it should pair well with the TRD supercharger that I have sitting in wait to get installed. Most wanted different gear ratio. Thanks for that. I’m still trying to gather info on the OEM replacements. I recently went to 35’s and I’m worried about the rear diff. I want to stick with stock gearing for the GX470.Those are not 8.2 diff. Hilux are never available with 8.2. They went to 8.75 instead.
I am still running 8" elocker with 4.30 gears. Been running 35x10.50r17 for the last 3 year and Hass not died yet with careful use. I notched and redrill a couple holes in the OEM housing to fit it.
Was browsing on toyota website and found the axle but wasnt sure which housing was which. I found a couple of the unlocked axle assemblies local to me under $2000 might just go that route and add regear and locker laterYou can look them up on the Toyota website. You can probably also get the housing cheaper from Partsouq and it will be air-shipped to you (unless the de minimum exemption that allows Partsouq to exist has already been removed).
I got a used non-elocked 8.2 3rd member for $285 on eBay. The e-locked ones are quite expensive. It might be cheaper to just buy a complete elocked 8.2 and swap it out - then sell your old 8.0.
Here is a link to the OEM Trussed housing that I got:Was browsing on toyota website and found the axle but wasnt sure which housing was which. I found a couple of the unlocked axle assemblies local to me under $2000 might just go that route and add regear and locker later
That looks nice its cheaper than toyota dealee by me. They had housing for $1200. where did you source the third member from? Here is a link to the OEM Trussed housing that I got:
It might be the first installation of the housing in a GX470! I'm going to stab in the 8.2 3rd member with 4.56 gears and a Harrop elocker, and re-use the axles and brakes from my 8.0. Then sell my 8.0 3rd member and scrap the 8.0 housing.
I snagged mine on eBay. They show up for $500-700 fairly often. I got mine for $285 but it's a bit rusty. I'll probably clean it up with a needle scaler before I send it back to ECGS as a core. That looks nice its cheaper than toyota dealee by me. Picked up third member from local junkyard for $500 and ordered new housing with part number you providedI snagged mine on eBay. They show up for $500-700 fairly often. I got mine for $285 but it's a bit rusty. I'll probably clean it up with a needle scaler before I send it back to ECGS as a core.
FYI shipping from Partsouq might be $500+ USD. I actually got mine from Megazip and it was air-shipped from Japan. Partsouq didn't have the housing in stock at that time. It was in perfect condition when it arrived.
Awesome! They'll now be at least 2 GX470s running around the US with the JDM trussed housing! Hoping to put mine in right after Memorial Day so hopefully I can still claim the first GX documented with the trussed housing, albeit if only for a bitPicked up third member from local junkyard for $500 and ordered new housing with part number you provided
I still need to sort the sway bar out. I also found out the housing assembly doesnt come with the studs and nuts to mount the third member or the drain and fill plugs. I got the part numbers from toyota for themAwesome! They'll now be at least 2 GX470s running around the US with the JDM trussed housing! I'll start posting pics of the process in my build thread around then.
FYI the sway bar mounting is a bit different on the 8.2 housing than the 8.0 in the GX. The mounting points don't exactly line up. I got a used sway bar with brackets and end links from a 2023 4Runner on eBay for $125 and it fits the 8.2 housing perfectly.
For the studs i believe theres two that are longer than the restAh, I had forgot about the studs and nuts. I'll check the thread (betting they are M10 or M12) get some of them as well. I'll re-use the plug of my 8" on the 8.2.
I checked the housing and they are indeed threaded for M10x1.25 studs (as opposed to the M8x1.25 8" housing). For the studs i believe theres two that are longer than the rest
