Baby got back? Junk in the trunk? Or saggy rump?

Is anyone else with the 24gal aux tank having issues with finicky fill-ups?

Anyone have any comments on the 40 gallon LRA tank? I'd really like an aux and would prefer the larger capacity if the larger size does not create unwanted issues. TIA.

I have 12.5 and had the nozzle popped out and give me a gas bath. It was my fault as I learned to position the nozzle in the direction of the port your filling. It will or should fill like normal. I have not had an issue since.

Really depends on how you wheel, IMO.

I originally thought of the 40.
Went with the 24 due to fear of clearance/scraping.

Now that I’ve experienced how incredibly tucked the 24 is? I actually think the 40 would have been fine.

Plus, with the up-armored bottom, I’m confident other stuff would break long before the smooth tank would break. I had so many hard hits over 3 1/2 weeks of wheeling last Summer, and yet the 24 was untouched. That means it is crazy tucked.

If anything, I actually wonder but what the slightly lower bottom plate of a 40 might just keep me from hooking my rear bumper on extreme, upward pointing obstacles...

I dunno.

Only one way to truly find out... ;)

I have the 40. Love it. Never had any issues. Super tucked up can’t even see it without almost laying under the truck. Fills fine. Transfers fine. Never whacked it and I wheel hard. Wouldn’t go smaller given the chance love basically 2 complete fillups. I only keep it 1/2 full driving around normally.

Question for those that have this installed. I powered on the transfer pump for the first time. Seems to be a rather loud tapping than a humming that I was expected? Normal? The system is still dry at the moment so perhaps that's why it's louder?

It will be quieter with fuel..... :)

All I need to know. Thank you!

Perhaps good "feature" to know it's done transferring.

I noticed that same sound on @indycole ‘s truck last weekend. It’s normal for the standard pump. My pump does not make the tapping noise because I found a stronger/faster pump for my tank. You can still hear it, but it doesn’t make the surprising sound you are referring to. Good news is… That’s pretty much how I would describe the noise I heard Cole’s pump make.

May I ask why you don't fill it up completely? I would be soo tempted in the middle of the week when gas is $0.30 cheaper per gallon to save some loot. Is it the weight? I swear it feels like I drive 5 miles and my gas tank is at 3/4 full. One of the reasons I am contemplating this upgrade is because I am getting batty filling up gas every 250-275 miles and would love 900+ mile range. I'm a bit lead footed. Every time I travel I have to plan my gas stops. I hardly ever notice weight difference when I have passengers in the rear. I'm using stock springs.

An update on my 12.5 gallon tank. Drove from Houston to Denver and back after Christmas. No issues filling the aux tank, but the main tank took some finesse to fill up even more so in cold weather. When it was single digits, I had to fill the main at a trickle and that even tripped the pump every gallon or less. Love the functionality, but it is a pain to fill up. My expanding tank noise also seems to greater when it is colder.

I got the 40. I was surprised how well it fit and how high is actually was.

I did not receive the light that comes with the dash switch either and that is a pain in the butt sometimes.

As has been mentioned it's difficult to fill the main tank......a friggin nightmare sometimes when it's cold or people start honking because it takes so long.

The cold part has me spooked. The only reason I want this upgrade is so I don't need to stop for gas so often but if its even slightly more painful its not for me. Although everytime I pump gas I wish I had one of these without cold issue. I like the idea of driving 900 miles between fillups.

Fueling is not painful.
Once you figure out how to keep picky pump seals on...it a piece of cake.

Maybe I’ll video myself filling up both tanks at a picky CA Costco pump to prove this is not a problem... ;)

ARB 185L poly tank, a LOT lighter than steel, less prone to cracking on seams (had the issue twice before) plus the factory 93L tank. Its been hit hard a few times with zero issues.

You’re in Oz though... ;) Y’all have choices for everything LC those of us in the US don’t have.

But I gotta ask...
-Who made your cracking steel tanks??

In the US, we’re thrilled to have access to the LRA. They are built extremely well & I can’t imagine cracks. Mine is also armored with extra steel plating on the bottom & the welds are beautiful. Honestly though, the 24gal is so tucked that I’m not sure anything smaller than the 40 needs the up-armor..and only if you beat the poo out of your truck like a few of us do.
