@steve578 @wardharris I'm pretty sure the "boom" noise is just the sheet metal bottom flexing downward upon refilling after being evacuated. I hear it every time I fill up the aux tank. I also find that I have far fewer issues if I fill the aux tank before the main tank regarding the pumps clicking off (especially the CA variety).

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll ask her if she is filling the aux tank first. I’ll also ask if the “boom” only occurs soon after a refill. Better yet, I may need to “test drive” it for a few weeks.

No boom here either and I haven't had an issue with the pump clicking off

I have the 24 gal and a 3” icon lift. With both tanks full it might be 1” below level in the rear. I’m picky and it doesn’t bother me. After a few miles the main tank has drained enough to level back out. It’s one of my favorite mods. Easy to install. Tucked in well.

I use the aux tank to fill the main tank and always pump into the aux tank (if that makes any sense) so. 1 tank is always full. Keeps me from doing a 44 gallon fill up every 450 or so miles.

For those in California are these tanks passing the smog inspection and testing? Curious if anyone has had any issues in Ca?

Thinking of a 200 as my next vehicle and a bigger tank option would be on my list. Currently have a 46 gallon tank on my 4x4 van and love it.
Thanks
Eric

Markuson has one of them and he lives in CA.

I drove the 200 this morning. The drive was about 12 miles and 20 minutes. The outside temp was around 36*. I heard the noise seven times. My wife said that it may have occurred a little more than normal this morning, but it wasn't too far off of a typical drive to work.

I forgot to add that the aux tank was almost full. There might be one light unlit on the gauge.

Interesting.....anyone else with similar experience? @orangefj45 ??

The first thing I'd rule out is making sure none of the bolts are loose securing the tank to the frame. Also make sure your spare tire carrier and tire itself is secure. It'd be a bit weird to not hear any squeaking/rattling first, though. It sounds like the boom noise you hear is different than what I've heard in terms of the bottom of the tank deflecting a bit.

I drove to lunch which was about 6 miles one way. It was around 56*. I recall hearing it twice on the way there. I wasn't paying attention on the way back to work.

Boom is probably not the correct description. It sounds like a metal container expanding and contracting. I will definitely check underneath for loose bolts when I have a chance, but the sound it makes is not the same as something loose.

I'll try to record the noise I hear occasionally while filling the tank. It'll be a couple weeks, though. Thinking about it a bit more, I've also heard expanding/contracting noises during periods of major altitude changes while driving. Never anything I've paid much attention to, though...

Could it be gas cap related? Perhaps creating a vacuum and then releasing?

The "BOOM" sound could possibly be the tank. If it is, then obviously there's an issue with pressure/vacuum build-up. If that's the case, then the tank isn't venting correctly. I would look at the vent lines and make sure they're routed and connected properly; and make sure you don't have a pinched vent line.
I've never heard of this issue with another 200-aux tank before. We installed the prototype and a few others.

I've never heard of anybody with a 200 or any other cruiser ( or other vehicle with an LRA Tank ) fail emissions testing in CA because of the tank.

Smogged my 24 last week.

As a precaution to rule anything else out, I would check your cargo also. I once thought a rock was caught somewhere under my rig. rattling around. Turns out it was a socket 22MM deep well impact socket that rolled under the seat and was knocking around against the floor.

So the 24gal will not accommodate a spare underneath, is that correct?

But the 12gal tank you can still fit a slightly oversized spare?

Yes. It will hang a bit lower than stock...

Awesome! Even more awesome you have a 305 hung below.

Could I ask you for a favor and send me a pic of your rear end. o_O I'd like to get a sense how far my 305's going to hang down.
My wife said I can't send you a pic of my rear end, but she is ok with a photo of the 305 spare hanging below the 12.5 g tank

That pic makes me happy. Thought I would need to swap to a lesser 275 spare. Thanks!
