......One thing I'm not sure of - I have a 78, the new windscreen i got I think was off an 82. When i order new seals, are they the same? Ive read somewhere that they are different....

Do the two windscreen frames look the same Phil?

If so, I believe the "WEATHERSTRIP, WINDSHIELD" (ie. the rubber that holds the windscreen-glass in place in the frame) should be the same too (for both 1978 and 1982)

So it should be this one (that fits mine and is for 5mm glass):

Cheers Tom, thats what I'm chasing.

Im looking for other parts too now the seal below the windscreen and the one between the roof and the windscreen. Plus door seals and seals between the tub and hardtop. Looks like it'll be cheaper to get things in from the US rather than here in Oz.

I used Rare Spares for my door rubbers and haven't regretted that decision. The doors are harder to shut (and sit a bit prouder) but in my opinion the OEM door rubber was/is a bit too flimsy (encouraging the doors to rattle when travelling over corrugations and having a shorter lifespan).

Interesting reading Tom might have to look into Rare Spares for my rubbers for Jade.

A bit of an update: Rubbers and seals ordered from rare spares for the doors and bailey channel and I managed to source a lower windscreen rubber and a new seal for the windscreen wiper. Also I have on order a stock bumper.

Bonnet, windscreen, front and rear doors have all been rubbed back and primed and just had a welder round this afternoon to have a look at the holes underneath the window. He's able to start in about a month, which gives me a chance to save some $$ before he starts. Hopefully by then i can have the roof and gutters sorted (I have some fibreglass ones) and the tub sanded back and hopefully primed.

The job tomorrow is to keep sanding and prepping!

What did it cost you for the rubbers from Rare Spares and is that for all of them.

No, it wasn't for all of them. I'll have look for the receipt Ken. The bird on the phone has been great in helping. They haven't arrived yet and I ordered them before easter - theres been an issue with the LH/passenger door rubbers - i don't think they had any in stock and its getting made. When they get in next week ill let you know how they look.

A question for the folks that have replaced the lining on their roof - carpet or something more original?

Go original or something comparable from another vehicle. Carpet if there will be dingo balls hanging from the dash and it's a '' Low rider'' !

Ken - Front door seals were $67 each (LHS & RHS); rear barn doors were $64 each for L&R; and the channel kit for the window was $62 for the pair. Sorry its taken so long to reply; i only got them delivered today! There was a back order on the LHS front door seal. They look good.

Spent last week fur tan/rust proofing most of it and the bogging up has started. Chassis has been painted black and a bit of deadener for under the tub. Hoping to start priming this weekend.

That a patch panel you bought or that the panel beater made from scratch?

As much as my wife has been reminding me, Ive been at the sanding/prepping/welding/rust proving stage for a few months now. Ive got a welder in to do some work for me and after getting some of the top made, he's fixed up the hole below the windscreen on the tub and Ive now ordered a whole LHS skin from the US to replace a whole lot of bronzing, pop rivets, holes and bog.

Saying that, its getting exciting. The next few weeks should see the car com
e together. I have been starting to eye off some of the finishing touches - new gear knobs and boots; sourcing some underfloor sound and heat proofing, some floor mats and new lights.

I like the look of Racer65s LEDs, (Unobtainium) but being in Australia and driving on the other side of the road I know they will annoy the hell out of other drivers (and they would be illegal). Any headlight upgrade recommendations from any Aussies or Kiwis? Are these ok: 55w Toyota Landcruiser 40 Series Headlight Fast Start HID Conversion Kit

It really blows me away when I see the garages you have in Aus. ! Being not insulated and open on the sides cause of the heat there ! Just an unfathomable method here in Canada !
I have a spray can of Rust Check, not sure if they sell it there if not then when ever you open up the metal like in the dash as above I would be coating the metal inside with and oil spray to help preserve it and slow the rust.
I guess you also have the factory holes in the firewall also. There is also a product I think called '' Galvalum'' cold spray. Some metal fab shops use it. It is basicly cold galvanizing spray, and a new product called Zinga.
Just a thought and keep up the good work !
Mac
