Awsome Rune, welcome in the 42" tires group.

Regards Ronny

wondered when Ronny would chime in..

this is my very good friend and the reason why I have such tires..:p

this is his sweet build, 1995 HiLux. also on 42" and 3" body lift.
recently approved at the Norwegian DMV.
and tested at Dekra, a independent test labaratory in Germany to meet the current EEC standards within stability, brakes etc. demanded by the DMV to be road legal.

Very nice! How did the hilux perform on snow with those 46's?

it isn`t tested yet due to it is recently build.. but i`ll bet it will rock cause of the low weight..

If the axles can handle the tires I think it would probably just about float on water with those tires.

I was wondering the last couple of days whether these tires were legal in Norway. And now you have answered my question. :) Do all truck who have bigger tires that 35" have to go through testing like that in Germany or is it okey if one is built and approved then trucks built later on the same way get automatic approval ? :)

Hi

All over + or - 5% have to be testet, thats the tuff part with 4x4 in Norway. I u can't us any car as a exempel.

all the trucks with bigger wheels than 5% of stock wheels have to be approved by the DMV. and since the DMV have created a gouverment board called SFOOR(Orginization for rebuild, modified and repaired vechicles) in 2007ish, it is now basicly impossible to get anything approved in Norway without going to a independent labaratory and get the vechicle tested and documented. and Germany is the closest thing to have such labaratorys.. TüV, DKR, Dekra etc etc..

and no, it is only for one truck. the documentation is for the vechicle tested only.

Arctic Trucks have series approval, but then the testing is waay more extensive and humoungsly expensive!! Even Arctic Trucks as a firm have to be approved to have series approval.. so in short, it is a PITA to get anything approved in Norway now..

uff that´s tough. Here in Iceland I for example could modify suzuki jimny on 44 inch tires and the just have it checked and then ready to go...
Then you will plan a roadtrip to Germany.?

Im curious what the use in norway is for a vehicle of that kind, as I think you're note allowed to drive off road even if its covered with snow right? some insanely stupid laws there

unfortunately there is a goverment party now that is pushing similar laws trough here in Iceland
but we are trying to fight it

Here in Iceland it is allowed to drive of road if its covered with snow, it is not allowed to drive off road in the summertime and you will get very high fines if you are caught doing it

there are quite a few places we can use our cars in the wintertime, but not like you guys can do.. in summertime we have it lot easier. especially north of norway where i am from, there are vast aeras to explore. and if it is allowed to drive there in the summertime you can basically drive there in the wintertime. the laws states a purposed vechicle for intended use, doesnt say car but who is to say that it isnt purpose built?:D

going slow, studies and kids in the day. then daddy time in the evenings..

but progress so far. done with the firewall..

will post what I did on one side so you`ll get the gist of it..

never underestimate a good cardboard. :D

Weapons of choice.

if you are going down this road, you must remember to seal of one "compartment" of a time, here i start at the inner one and work my way outwards. and not just tac them, proper welds, we want this rigid to maintain structual support.

now i skip a little forward, you get the idea, it is some metal fabrication and it takes some time..
welded shut all the small holes after removing the stock inner flare support at the firewall, cleaned it up and then applied two thick layers of a 2k epoxy primer that`ll kill elephants if inhaled..

done modifiying the front, also finished boxing the front plate support member after shortening it.
2013-01-22%2021.38.42%20%28Large%29.jpg

when it the epoxy was dry, I applied a 3M Sealing Compound I`m familiar with. after this is dry i will seal it off again with a black 2K topcoat.

that concludes the afternoons work. tomorrow i will start to make the inner fender and hopefully start on the other side when all the sealants and goodies are drying between layers..

also, remember  between each tac.. makes it so much better..

coming along nicely. inner fender about done..

dont pay so much attention to the outer-fender, cause i do not want to modify it to much before i have the flares so i can cut it perfectly.. but took some away so i could adjust the width of the inner fender.

1st part on, just checking with the tire..

2nd part on.
2013-01-23%2012.37.00.jpg

adjusted the inner fender width for the outer fender. as said, dont pay any attention to the roughly cut outer fender, it`ll have to be cut open to match the inner fender..

now off to cook some dinner..

Wow, great job on that inner fender. Very clean, looks like it could've came that way from the factory.

Sent from my iPad using IH8MUD

Awsome, love that you can get 42" with nothing lifting, have some more work on the rear to gain us the goal to get away with not lifting in the rear as well . Rock roll

is just fun to modified lc80!:-)

Thanks..:)

this is exactly what i envisioned doing in the front to clear my 38's. Great job, and it DOES look factory!!! too cool man.:grinpimp:

Keep up the good work rbuljo! Can't wait to see it finished! You also try to get it aproved like Ronny's Hilux? I guess you have some work to do with the engine also? Or have you done some tuning?

Ronny, I saw your truck for sale at tv2.no. I could have bought a almost new LC 200 with the 5,7 for that here in Texas! What project are you starting up with now, finally into the HD engine LC's? Or some less reliable newer toyota diesel stuff?
