Keep up the good work rbuljo! Can't wait to see it finished! You also try to get it aproved like Ronny's Hilux? I guess you have some work to do with the engine also? Or have you done some tuning?

Ronny, I saw your truck for sale at tv2.no. I could have bought a almost new LC 200 with the 5,7 for that here in Texas! What project are you starting up with now, finally into the HD engine LC's? Or some less reliable newer toyota diesel stuff?

Hi Bjørn, heard Ronny talk about you. nice of you to join in.
Yes, definitive going to approve it in germany so it is road legal here in Norway.

The engine is pretty stock now, going to build a big exhaust and stuff the largest IC i can fit in front.. the just let the turbo go all out till it is time for a new one. :)

we are quite a few ppl now taunting Ronny to get a HD LC, he should stop playing with those small engines and pickups ;)

Left side front done.

ok, a little update on the progress..

if you`ve read the thread you know I have done the front passenger side already. inner fender and firewall rebuildt. additionally i have painted the parts with a black top coat and put a thin sound proofing mat/sheet on the inside of the inner fender to kill some road noise.

now I have done the left side and it goes quick as hell when you know just how much to take away. one cut and you are done.

again, removed the spring and the car is resting on the bumpstop.

here i have full steer to the left and plenty of room, thumb rule is you should at least get your fingers in between..

since i had done the other side, i knew exactly where to cut and how much, so i didnt have to fiddle with the inner fender at the same time, here we can clearly see how much is taken away to allow for 42" tires with no bodylift at front.

this just shows how easy it is to fit 35-37" wheels with minimal bodywork, you would have to cut away approx half of what i have done.

one challenge is that i have to rebuild the clutch lever as it hits the firewall, but that is a small one.

now on to making the inner fender.

Amazing work! Can't wait to see the pix of the rear as well.

Fwiw 35s pretty much clear with just some minor dolly work and trimming of plastic. I ran that way with stock springs for a couple years.

You're tempting me to upsize to 37s or bigger!

Thanks for the inspiration.

Great work on the Arctic Diesel 80!

Rune,

Great progress you are making! The sheet metal work is coming out great! The space you are removing from the firewall is the space normally occupied by the factory plastic foot rest. So you are not really loosing any interior space :) Great sheet metal work too. Nice to see the time you are investing into making it all clean.

I can appreciate the amount of work since we took the time to do all of our fender arches on our Arctic LX450 the right way. Although we build many different types of vehicles for the diversified needs of our customers, the Arctic approach is my personal favorite.

This year we are working on another LX450 Arctic Project and most likely taking the "Low Wider" approach with this one. We want to run the wider paddle tires for the sand while keeping the CG low. The direction you went with the firewall mods is likely way we will go as well. Seeing your progress pics is getting me motivated... having the parts already sitting here to do it doesn't help either :P

Keep up the great work! You are motivating all of us here!

Good to see that something is happening in your garage Rune, keep up the good work! Home free with 42 "and zero lift, I have to live up to my saying" we do not raise 4x4, we widths them! "! "

Thanks Brian, Ryan.. low CG is the way to go..:)

it actually is quite a bit of work, and as some of you have done some sheet metal work before, knows how much work it is to get everything perfect.

sethzilla,

i managed to get one half assed pic of the driver side foot well. hard to take any pictures there with the mobile phone. as you can see in the picture you have to remove everything electrical in the footwell so you dont have a disaster there when cutting and welding. it is a PITA to relocate and get all the electric gizmodos back in to place behind the panel and looking oem with so much room removed.

this is not cleaned up and obviously not painted/treated at all. but you get the gist of it.

That's exactly was i was looking for. I think i won't go nearly as deep as you did to fit my 38" XML's. Now i'm getting excited to start my own build!

Excellent work! I love seeing Toyota put to good use around the world.

heard about your garage here. nice picture of a great work with fitting 42" on Lc80.
nice that you will have the car tested like i started with my Lc90 on 38"

Keep up the good work

Anders

I just put some 325/70/17 on my 96 LC. After seeing some of these pics, I'm jealous.

adjusted the inner fender width for the outer fender. as said, dont pay any attention to the roughly cut outer fender, it`ll have to be cut open to match the inner fender..

.

Can you tell me what product the yellow primer/sealer is, and what type of respirator you needed to use?

Hows this truck coming along BTW?

Must.... Have... Update.....

I was seriously stoked to see the progress of this and one day it just stopped. I figured fitting those tires in the rear was going to be difficult but not impossible.

I still want to see this happen.

I too would really like to see the rest of this build documented not just the finish results.

Probably my favorite truck that I've ever seen is the Toyota pickup Top Gear took to the north pole, so naturally I'd love to see an 80 transformed in a similar way. I eagerly await your creation!
