Wondering if anyone has found a good affordable rubber liner or mat to use in front and rear of their fj40. Seem like last thing on my list when I see the prices of floor mats but wouldn’t mind finding something to lay down and cutout myself thats cost effective. Anyone ever done this and what have you done?

Thanks

I bought a roll of diamond plate rubber and made my own for my LV like I was ever going to find an original. It turned out really well I made a paper pattern and cut it out. Rubber cost me about $60.00 .

Nice. That’s what I was thinking about doing. Do you remember where you sourced it from?

I’ve got leftovers of vinyl diamond plate from redoing the ambulance floor. I bought the 7.5’x20’ roll at Costco. It was a bit over $1/sqft. Originally it was designed to cover garage floors. I plan to cover as much of the floor as I can manage. It should work well for all the flat areas. The floor I have installed offers good grip and limits things sliding around.

Truck bed mat from Tractor Supply

The truck bedmat has ribs that matches factory floor

Rear Mat: Not factory from '77.....but then again, it is an OEM Toyota product. :grinpimp:

For the front floor mats, I cut up some stair runner stuff from HD to cover the OEM mat.

Horse stall mat.

Heavy duty, thick, even cuts down on some heat in the cab.

The price has gone up since I've made the purchase (it was at $90 Jan 2018), but I think it's a reasonable floor mat set-up. You have to cut it to size for the rear cargo space and front floor boards. It is not flexible enough to wrap around the transmission hump cover; so I am in the process of sourcing out a thin enough material for that.

Note: the grey "carpeting" is the insulation floor mats, from CCOT, for the front/rear. They are doing quite well in reducing the ambient heat inside the cab. They will soon be covered up to match the black floor mats.

Amazon special, rubber and carpet from a roll.
It is thin but works.

Diamond plate fabric from Lowe’s, the rear mat is from Specter Off Road. Good quality.

I bought a roll of 1/8 rubber matt ($60 on fleabay) for the entire front and am going to use the original old matt as a template to make a new one. I sourced a piece of gym rubber flooring off of Craigslist for the rear section.
