Anybody know what this hole is?

It is about 6 inches below the 5th exhaust port on the block in front of and a little below the 3rd freeze plug.

does it leak?

I am in the final stage of building the engine on a test stand now. I would rather not fill it with fluids and find out.

looks like where the oil line went on the older f engines .it was blanked out when the filter was moved to passenger side .photo isnt big enough to really tell good luck

Oil pressure sender location used on the early 2f blocks is my guess. It moved over to the oil filter housing in 77.

Pretty sure it is not something to worry about.

Cool, think I can drill and tap it out to say an M8 and not hurt anything? I want to put my knock sensor there. It's damn close to center and away from all the noisy valves, lifters, etc. and close very close to the pistons.

And this is a just a silly question... what size drill bit for an M8 x 1.25?

The small hole that is unthreaded is for the throttle pivot used on early F engine Cruisers and some forklifts.

Yes, it can be threaded, it is a pretty dead area of the block, above the oil gallery, below the water jacket...

You'd want either an H (.266") sized drill bit, or a 6.8mm drill bit. Make sure to either get or make a bottoming tap. Good luck with it!

Bottoming tap? I just have the metric taps I always have had.

Regular taps are tapered and won't cut threads all the way to the bottom of a blind hole, they're made for holes that go all the way through.

LEarn something new every day. Thanks Jim.

Hmm I am going to have to take a good look at that hole. I have stuck a couple of very long 6mm bolts in there and didn't find the bottom. I either have lots of room back there or it is open to a cavity.
