Any way to utilyze the phony vent box on a 40?

Hinged the lid and have two small aux. Lights pop up. Good extra trail lights. When your done just close the lid. Hideaqay lights

Wrong spot for off road lights. Best place is on the front. That low on the hood will not light th road right in front of you. The darker, less glare on the hood the better.

"Phony" vent box?

Yea,..on early 40's you pulled a lever and outside air came in,..on mine there is no flap, just a covered hole.

Ah, I see. Mine works, so I was scratching my head over that.

Curious has anyone ever tried to get the welded shut vent to operate like the earlier ones? On the 73 model, last year of the operating vent in the US market the handle switched sides. Probably because of the radio hole. The only reason it didn't work after 73 was a redesigned heater with a vent on top. Markets that didn't have a heater stock the vent still worked. Would think everything needed to make one work could be found on the 73.

Does anyone have a picture of this handle they pull on pre 73 40's?

Mine is a 69 so it is "functional" But mainly it has been a compost pile full of leaves from sitting under a tree for many years and a rust fertilizer dripping into the cab. keeping everything nice and moist almost year round because I am in the pacific northwest.:bang:

In a 'functional' one, what happens to the rain water? Do they still have drain tubes?

Why would you want another vent? I have three. I don't see why one more would be beneficial.

You could run the drain tubes into a little box with a fan and another drain out the bottom. 2 black drain tubes going in, almost to the bottom of the box, 1 black drain tube coming out the bottom of the box with a check valve to keep hot air out and a computer fan mounted to the side of the box, (scraggly purple circle) high enough so dripping water would drip past it.

Yes they still have drain tubes. I have a functional vent and that area also has 2 drain tubes that run down the firewall and drain on each side of the engine

from Specter's site - it's the knob right above the heater #112-76 - exactly the same on my '72
