@clrussell I have seen your thread over in the local club page, shoot me a pm in a week or so (I'll be out doing tomfoolery and drunken shenanigans this next week), I'll give some local stuff that might benefit your trip.

Although most of it looks to be north and east of my area, I can still be of some help somehow.

Just tell your peeps it sucks out here.

Still on the docket for July,
Backcountry trout jihad
Beer drinking
Brisket and smoked sausage on the smoker
Float some local water, chucking dries
Beer drinking on the back porch
Summer concerts
Baseball games
Flying into some remote airstrip to search for wild trout
Beer drinking
To finally end the quest to catch the large El Toro (bull trout hunting)
More smoked meats
Beer drinking
Beer drinking at Old Crow Medicine Show comcert

Maybe return to work.

I'm having a hard time drumming up some cruiser tech, my rig has been running great lately, it's basically been moved to daily driver status this last couple of months.

Sounds perfect! Especially the Old Crow Medicine Show

@rkymtnflyfisher
What does one look for when scouting trout water by plane?
Educate me.
Basically just the birds eye view, the ability to see the different pools, rock ledges, stuff like that. Some of the water we flew over is hard to reach by any other way than by boat. Those areas are nice to look at from above to see if it's worth the long hike into.

Well that didn't go as planned.

Spent the morning driving to a backcountry creek only to find the road was closed 6 miles from the trailhead. I sure didn't feel like adding an extra 12 miles of hiking to the 6ish I already had planned to do. Makes things interesting though, now there is a big stretch of water with zero easy access.

I thought about it, for sure. It was a long way from pavement.

Found out when I got home the road washed out in a few areas, landslides and such.

At least they closed it for good reason. There's alot of that going on without a good reason. Seems like "closure is management" in some areas.

Parachute? Or now you have an excuse for an e-bike.

That’s exactly right. They are closing motor vehicle trails daily in Colorado. It’s infuriating.

According to the forest service bulletin I found it is closed to motorized vehicles wider than 50".

Hold my beer.

definitely seems like a suggestion

I measure out at 65"
That’s exactly the kind of BS I’m talking about.

Forest Service logic:
Don’t let the people through in the 50 plus year old rigs who just wanna go fish, just let the dirt bikes and quads that tear crap up. That way we can claim there’s more erosion taking place and close it permanently.

you know what the best part of 'rules' is .......

definitely seems like a suggestion
There is definitely more investigation needed.

I did stop at the ranger station at the end of the main road, might as well been Bannack, basically a ghost town.

Hold my beer.

Ya might think twice on saying that around me.

There are 4 kinds of beer I enjoy. Hot, cold, yours, mine.

Just sayin'

Cheers

(my experience with loss of access - down here a stream/river became a "Scenic River Byway" or something like that over time cuz not enough people objected at a public hearing which was announced in the smallest possible newspaper subscriber base.)
