right before i turboed my 3b i deleted the old muffler and drove it around for a few days, all the f350 guys were lookin where the sweet diesel noise was comin from and givin me waves and s***, pretty funny stuff but it was a little too brodozer for me, turbo shut it right up after

Was hella loud in my garage!
I was toeing the line on my kitchen pass, the youngest told my wife that I almost exploded the shop. I couldn’t hear any of her positive feedback and reassurance for a few days.

Next time let’s hit some of the Idaho spots!!!!!

I guess it’s better that your muffler blew out at home rather than on the trip.

I’m excited to get back out there, already thinking about the next trip.

Heck yeah, an old buddy of mine might be joining up next July for the float trip, y’all will have to come out and make that part of the vacay as well!!

That muffler sounded like a pipe bomb blew up in my garage! I’m pretty sure I’ve tossed hand grenades that weren’t that loud!

Whoa. What happened to the muffler?

My guess is some unburned fuel, for whatever reason, found its way out the exhaust and ignited once it got hot enough.

I had the exact same thing happen to my FJ55 a couple years ago. Ended up having bad timing and burnt #5 valve.
That would be my guess as well. I had to run home in a hurry yesterday because my dogs were attacking a fawn, I ran it hard on the way home and shut it off pretty fast when I got home. A few hours later after I finished up with some other stuff I started it up to back it in the garage, as soon as the engine fired the muffler exploded.

My theory is that some gas vapor built up from running it hard and shutting it off so quick, then the ignition from the engine set it off.

It would be a great time to check valves-timimg-carb.

I did pour a full bottle of Seafoam in the tank on Monday night when I topped the fuel off.

Holy sh*#. I would have crapped myself. Crazy to think that just by starting it up again somehow it was ignited all the way back there.

When mine blew, I had a hot weather non-start, and hit the key right away without waiting a bit.

Engine had a hard miss just after. Ended up pulling the head and replacing #5 exhaust valve. Right after this, a friend asked me why I was running with the timing off so bad. He spent a solid 5 min resetting the timing and haven't had a problem since.

i blew mine up on my chevelle when i was 18 years old. first time a had ever put an engine in a car. put my distributor in 180 degrees off and had it fire with the exhaust open. knocked stuff off my sisters wall in her bedroom on the other side of the garage wall!! it is for sure loud when that happens inside!!! 🤣

I don’t know anything about fishing but I’ll go with you flying the mountains!

Agreed- FNGs need to search his threads. Not to rain on your man crush but he does have issues with packing tape…..

I do need to get out of strictly the 40 section. Buying a 60 series helped but I still mostly just lurk here.
