I was looking back at your posts because I plan on painting mine Rustic Green. Did you use the Toyota Rustic Green paint code? Also, why did you choose single stage over basecoat/clearcoat? Thanks!

I did not use the Toyota paint code when I selected the paint, I used their color card and matched it up with what I thought might be the closest to it. The single stage choice as purely based on price/ease of application/durability/probably a better option for a beginner.

I used to work with an old timer when I lived in Colorado Springs, he was from Canõn City. We were in Montrose working at the time, he was telling me about an old smurf blue 40 his dad had bought new in the 70's, said they only used it to haul elk out of the mountains, it was their yearly hunting trip together. The father had since passed and my buddy said he still has it sitting out at their land. Told me all kinds of tall tales and good ol day stories, about how the rig was kick ass patina smurf blue, except for the hood, it was dark red from the blood of 30 some odd years of elk blood.

I mentioned something like BS to him about half of the stories, and there ain't no way in hell he has a completely original 40 sitting in the barn.

He called my BS the following week with a stack of pics from dead elk from all their trips, him and his old man posing with trophy bulls and an old faded 40.

Then he drove it in one week.







It probably still sits on his place today.

That is awesome. The old stories that these rigs bring out are the best. Would love to know where that 40 resides these days.

I ran across that old timers phone number several years ago on a piece of paper in my truck, I thought about calling him up just to chat, unfortunately I never did and I haven’t seen that paper since.

I’d bet that old 40 is still sitting around his land.

10,500 miles.

Overall I'm not really impressed with year round performance, I do not like them in snow and ice. Mud and dirt, no complaints.

The front end wore them down quick, I've since adjusted some things resulting in a significant improvement.

Right now they are both wearing pretty evenly.

Before I rotated and adjusted toe in, (and found loose wheel bearings) I was eating up both front tires.
