Beautiful!

That curve looks like a good place to do a little gold prospecting.. ! :) (My dad signed us up for lifetime membership in the GPAA Gold Prospectors Association of America back around 1979 - 80)
The guy in that pic does a little prospecting, I watched him a few times get lost in the fine sediment at his feet, next thing you know he’d be sifting through a handful of fine river sediment looking for flakes.

While adjusting valves I reached down to grab the crankshaft pulley to turn the engine and the pulley was loose. What the crap? I crawled under to take a look and sure enough, the nut is MIA.

Off to the intertubes I go looking for a NLA nut! (@ToyotaMatt) did show up to the rescue but not before I remembered a nut I found out in the road a month or so ago.

I'll be dammed, walked over to the shelf and there it was. Put it back on and added a little extra love with the breaker bar to snug it up hellatight.

Ran to the store for some stuff, runs like a raped ape again!
Had this happen last year... there's actually a lock washer that is supposed to go behind the nut and get bent over to prevent loosening. @65swb45 sells them.

Didn’t that lock washer go away in like 78, or 81? I’m going to need to browse some parts schematics now.

Could be... mine's a 77, though my motor is an 84.

Fell behind on your thread a little bit. As usual, the pics don't disappoint!

My engine is from an 83 FJ60, I don’t recall there being a lock behind that nut, but it’s also one of those things that I most likely didn’t pay much attention to.

Thanks for the tag @Honger . The lock tab is for the nut that has the claw on the end. The FJ60 nut did not have a claw, so it did not take a lock washer.

Pheeew ....

115 pages - I feel like I sat through the uncut version of, 'Lawrence of Arabia' (no intermission)...

Great read though! Incredible work!

Now I frown when I look out my back window at my '68 under a tarp...

:)

I could tell you were going to need a break soon!

You better get comfortable.

Brother, I was born comfortable...

I remember red but I’m seeing green ( in more ways than one )...

Don’t spoil it for me, I know a good story when I read one...Gonna fire up the 6 cup and enjoy.

One from November whe I was coming down from a trailhead.

The view from the front porch a couple of nights ago.

They're calling for a significant snow storm this week, i keep hearing numbers that range from 4"-8" up to 18"-24".

I'd wager a beer that we get less than 6".

Well sir, way I see it, you did “good”. Looks like a nice spot on the map.

Made it through about 30 pages of your thread so far. Like walking down a familiar path. Hell, I may put on the “10 cupper” and binge the morning away.

Slid nose first into a bar ditch in a snow storm tonight @about 40 mph, being a dumb ass and driving in 2wd while the roads were slicker than a five gallon bucket of warm Vaseline. Pretty steep shoulder, I went from trying to keep it between the lines to trying to keep it shiny side up all within about 2 seconds. Stopped about 6 inches from hitting a split rail fence. Had to steer it into the ditch rather than out of it, if not I may have dumped it on its side.

Locked the hubs, hit 4lo, pounded the skinny pedal and managed to get it back on the road.

Drove home and parked it.
Posted in another thread last month, posted here for my own reference later.

TOT is 0630-ish. Went all in with the 12 cup dark roast. I'm on the green light heading for the door...I'll ping you back when I'm on the ground...

👍
