Allow me to introduce...."Chunk" (my 60 Build thread)

2 reasons....

It's primary use as a hunting rig and cost. I would love to return it to factory (4E8?) but that's a two stage paint with a colored/pearl clear and the body would need a lot of fine tuning to make that look okay and it would be an expensive endeavor.

4E9......Do it.....Do it......Do it.....Do it.....Do it..... Do it!!!!!

Nice truck for $1800. Post up what you do with it.

Did you get the tons as part of the deal?

$1,800 down to hold it, truck was in the $4K's
Ton's were long gone when I got it...That's why it has a new front clip, the fenders had been cut for the 40's

All the original suspension (plus the full length AAL's) was put back on and attended to where needed. It is easily the most solid, smooth, non-rattle-y 60 I've ever driven.
But he's not going to win any beauty contests...

I have been waiting for you to post up about the new ride. Cant wait to see how you fix him up.

Yeah, it took a while to finalize...

This one won't be as extensive as Ingrid was...I'm looking at it as a hunting rig that should be able to handle trips to Moab.

Wow, lower radiator hose is a friggen messy job...and DON'T cross thread the petcock for the drain, you're dead in the water (pun?) until you can replace it...mine was going in sideways but I caught it and did it right, salvaged it and the rubber gasket on it was in okay shape. Let's see what else did I get handled?

Front pass. side shackle was missing zerks so I dug up two and installed/greased

Fixed the fact that the lid for the overflow reservoir wasn't clasping down (built up the lip with electrical tape and it snugged on better.

Sold and removed the trailer hitch and wiring. (A friend with an 87 in Desert Bronze made less than 60 days after mine - July build vs. Sept. build)

Got the wiring in the taillights back to stock (fixed the piggyback clip exposure)

Completely filled and burped the rad with 66/33 Water to Antifreeze (Summer and all)

Nice little day of fixing a couple things...

So a quick update...

Alternator that the PO said was great kinda isn't....not the alt itself but the voltage regulator. It's putting out 17.02 at peak so I'm getting another voltage regulator to see if it will throttle it back down to 14.7-14.9. Haven't boiled the battery yet so I think I'm still okay. (Thanks BENO!!)

Valve cover gasket that was just messed with due to valve adjustment is leaking all over the place. So I'm gonna do that and take care of the oil galley plug at the same time.

I'm pretty sure the carb tuning and timing need to be re-baselined. It's hesitating on accel when coasting.

Powersteering box is leaking and powersteering pump/res is leaking as well. This thing is acting like a Harley...marking it's territory.

Bright note:

Shane from Metric TLc re-wrapped my non-USA grab bar, behold...

That "OH s***!" bar looks excellent. the wrap looks like some really good quality leather, i need to see if they do steering wheels.

I know he does full 80 series steering wheels but I don't think he does covers for 60's, but it couldn't hurt to ask...He's AATLAS1X on mud.

Awesome. I'm getting used to seeing amazing work from Shane, its on my short list to get approved by SWMBO.

Well, got the Voltage regulator on...constant 13.9-14.02...so that's way better than 17.02. I would have liked it to be around 14.5 but I ain't complaining.

When I bought Chunk, he only had one bumper bolt holding on the front bumper. So Beno to the rescue again with 4 chrome dome top carriage bolts, augmented with a couple more for underneath and now the bumper is properly secured.

Cheers, Onur!

How you liking those tires? I've had the same tire, same size for 2 years now. Absolutely love 'em, not even bad in the Colorado snow.

Nice score on the 60. Congrats!

Thanks...it's getting there. Just needs some TLC;)

I love the tires, everything I have read and heard (by majority) has been really positive. I only have 200-300 miles on them so I can't speak to long haul but I love the tread, I love the shoulder and I hear they are tough as nails...they better be at 74lbs a piece.

Thanks, man.

For some reason, it's just one of those items that really makes the truck feel like mine.

Turns out Shane also media blasted it and re-powdercoated it...

Above and beyond, Shane...Great Job, Thanks!
