I own since new a 2009 LC200 fitted with AHC. I never (touch wood) had any issues with it, but I was wondering if it made sense to plan a replacement of the hydraulic fluid.
I know Toyota declares it good for the lifetime of the vehicle, but much in the same way they do for the gearbx oil, I thought it may make sense to replace it anyway as it surely loses some of its characteristics over time.
Any experiences on this among you guys ?

AHC fluid is not lifetime....

There is a thread called ahc basics that will give you everything you need to know.

Tons of good info in this thread. If you are higher milage it is probably time to replace the accumulator globes as well as flushing fresh fluid through the system.

I did my fluid again today (for the 3rd time) at 120k miles. It wasn’t as brown as I remember the last two times.

I did have an issue, the bolt that holds the access door was rusted to the nut that was inside the compartment. To get the door off I broke the plastic frame that held the nut. I went to Lexus and they said the wheel well
Liner can’t be ordered? Which seemed odd. But looking at it the entire liner would need to be swapped out. So I made a new reinforced spot with JBweld and duct tape. My plan is to use one of the push retainers that came in the engine covers.

Every Lexus dealer in southern WI will not change my AHC fluid, one technician (25) years at the dealership, the specialist on LX’s, told me to leave it alone. So at 150,000 miles and being 2013 I haven’t done anything yet and it goes up and down 10 times a day.

And there in lies the rub for AHC. The only way to do correctly is for you to do it yourself. Sad part is that 99% of Lexus owners are not handy. So….

I am in the zero handy category….I imagine some day I will have my mechanic learn about and do it…

I doubt that your mechanic would want to mess with it...because if he oops it, then he is on the hook for several thousand dollar chase to find the problem. And that is why 99.8% of 3rd party shops won't even touch AHC. I am sure Slee or some LC specialist shops will but those are far for most customers.

If you've ever bled brakes before, it's actually a little easier. Post up in the regional forum and see if someone will help you out.

If you're going to do fluid, do globes too. And make sure you use the metal 2.5L cans. Spray your globes with penetrating oil a few times for a couple weeks ahead. That's about it!

Oh filling the reservoir sucks, and makes a GIANT mess.
