Any good options out there that keep the airbag?

Keep it. One of the reasons I went for a late 80. Post modified.

I had my steering wheel rewrapped, looks new. Would you consider that?

If you're just looking for a new steering wheel my lx450 came with a wheel from a lx470 and the cruise works. Come to think of it I don't know if the airbag is hooked up though.

It won't work bolt-on due to different control resistance, needs some fitting: either swap old switch, or change resistors in a new one.

I don't know if the airbag is hooked up though.
It can be. One should mind that there are two types of airbags on 100/120/470 etc. One-stage and two-stage, plugs differ, and only the first one is probably usable with LX450/FJ80 SRS.

The moment I have 500 bucks to spare. There’s an apparently excellent place in Texas, Dallas Custom? Will take a look at yours when you get the photos up.

Yup, you’ll want to have $500 for Dallas. Mine came out great and came to $500 (plus shipping to them), but I haven’t had time to install it yet (I sent them one I bought off eBay so I wouldn’t have downtime). The $500 included extra padding and repair of the original padding (if you can twist your leather when gripping the wheel, they’ll want to repair the original padding).

Craft custom does really good work..... they did mine plus new center console top and both shifter knobs for about 650....

People have just purchased the leather off amazon and did the wrapping themselves without removing anything more than the old leather. I don't remember who did it, but I thing it took someone an hour and less than 100 dollars. Might not be your think but this is what i will be doing.

I have very little faith that my 23 year old air bag will still work. I always envision it deploying a few seconds after the crash, and only about half inflated.

Needs more than that, some leather gone, some padding gone, gummy when wet.

Won’t Toyota test that free?

@tplane2 That looks just like my gen 1 taco wheel... i wonder if they are interchangeable.

Bought it along with its airbag off someone here.
Pretty sure there’s one available here at a parts place LA. They want 200 for the wheel and airbag. Let me know if you want their info.

Toyota Camry wheel same year allegedly fits too. You can find them for around $50 w/o air bag on Ebay. This was my orginal plan but ended up going with @MScruiser (I think) leather rewrap kit.

This is what i did and am happy i went the restitch method. Kinda neat knowing my hands are the only ones that have ever touched my steering wheel now! Subsequently, i now have a spare OEM steering wheel to sell...
