I am interested. I have the rs3000 system in my 1997. Are you still looking for pin out info on those? Let me know what you need to see and I'll try to get that information. I am not in a hurry to change mine out but I want to add remote start and a reliable remote sometime in the near future.
Yes, I am definitely still interested in getting the pin out verified. That would be awesome. Just PM me. Thanks!

So taking the time while I have it to report. I got it installed and only got to use it for a few test runs before I put the 80 in the garage for a long time dreading a noise on the engine. So now it is necessary to have a functional alarm, and my front seat bolted back down. So yanked out the old antenna I made for the old alarm and move the new viper and adapter to its long term position. Have my other driver loaded up and not wanting to drive it this week so been able to test out the new alarm experience and let me tell you... I like being more than 100 feet away and the remote working. Also this adapter board allows me to still do some further customization. I do recommend that you take time to unpin any wires you don't need from your Viper harness in place of trying to terminate all kinds of wires you may not plan on using. If you unpin them you can always add them back easy any time without unplugging anything...they will just slip right back in.

some future plans for it are to get install a timed relay that can kick on some external area lights as i often get back form hiking, kayaking and whatever after dark and I have good luck getting the vipers to turn on lights for me remotely.

What I want to know is the connector type? my rs3000 is losing its mind and my fobs are in bad shape, so I am looking to replace it. I have reasonably decent crimping tools so what I'd like to do is put a mating connector on the pigtail harness that came with the alarm system i bought.

There is another thread where people have tried to identity the 2 plug in that are on the alarmside however they ended up just desoldering the ends off the ra3000 box.

For what you have, at that point is not much different than buying both male and female ends of your choice and then both sides of each plug can be pinned and depinned.

Ah. Then i may as well just cut off the connector and splice the harness. It's not as though i will some day want to have the rs3000 in there again.

Hey, i wonder if we could collaborate a little? I have ordered a viper 3100vx for my '94, which has a malfunctioning RS3000 with malfunctioning remotes.

I'm trying to sort out, from available resources, how i would install the thing simply by cutting and splicing harnesses under the drivers seat.

Sadly, there don't seem to be any posts about how, exactly, the pre-95 rs3000 wiring differs from the later ones and the lx450, and my truck is in the shop for a new head gasket so i can't just go outside and start probing connector pins until i get it back.

I noticed there's no diodes on your plug and play adapter.

Perhaps we can document a variation of your product for the earlier trucks and at the same time spell out how someone can install one of these cheap alarm systems to replace the rs3k with a bunch of splices - which is what i intend to do.

So, between the installation manual for the viper, and this old thread, I've come up with this so far, drawing it in kicad:

Of course, since all they wanted was keyless entry, there's no alarm stuff in their diagram.

It's unclear to me -- is pin 6 on the little connector, "door unlock detector", the door jamb switch signal which would go to pin 5 on the main viper harness?

I haven't marked the "validity" outputs but i understand that a wire will be pulled to ground as long as the unlock signal is being received and I am not sure if this is something i need to use.

Instead of removing the starter cutout relay from under the dash it seems i can just actuate it using the relay built into the viper unit, though it's not clear whether it needs to be connected to ground or to power.

Thanks for any info!

I suspect that I (and the OP of the post i have linked to) have misinterpreted the 'interior light' pins.

@Lutz Auto I have a TVSS I recently removed from my son's 1994 FZJ80. You can have it for development purposees, if you want it. LMK

Hi, the adapter I made does have diodes built in. Unfortunately, they are needed to function correctly. It's strange but the RS3000 units differ in pin out locations from model to model, but the connectors are the same. So they all have the same connectors, but all the wires are in different positions. From what I can tell there are three different versions of the RS 3000. All look and function the same but the pinouts are different between them.

One of the male connectors on the RS3000 is unobtainium. I really tried to get a PCB version of it like the original, but couldn't. I made my own connector with male pins that stick out of the circuit board. I wasn't 100% happy with that, but it was the only way to make it plug and play without spending a ton of $$ to have that connector remade.

Yeah, that's how i understand it. I have no interest in manufacturing something - just documenting the wiring as i splice the viper harness to the rs3000 harness.

I'm ok with using diodes. I got heatshrink.

So it seems that a pair of diodes is required for the unlock signal to work?

It appears that a couple diodes are required to keep the dome light circuits separate.

This would be my first time installing an alarm.

I just purchased a 1997 LX450 that did not come with any remotes. But I think the factory alarm is still present. So I have been pondering buying a new PT398-07100 remote from Toyota, as my understanding is that they will work with my system. But I didn't know about this approach.

What is the advantage to using your adapter instead? Are the new alarms and remotes for new systems that much better?

And what new system would you recommend that I buy if I wanted to use your adapter?

Thanks

Jared

Jared - buy this from eBay and link it to your LX. Will work as designed and you get the correct fob.

That is pretty pricey. And I am not sure why you would pay 240 for a used lexus remote if a new toyota one is less than half that. I do remember reading somewhere that the toyota one worked for the stock LX450 alarms, but I would want to verify that.

And if Lutz Auto's adapter uses a more modern remote I could see why it would be even better.

The toyota version remotes are like $35 various places.

And yeah, the point of this adapter is to remove the original alarm and keyless entry and replace them with a Viper system that costs like $65.

I am curious about this too. The RS3000 on my 96 LX450 seems to be working pretty well, but the range is terrible even with the new a Toyota remote. The doors unlocking when I turn off the ignition also seems a little slow. How much better is a new Viper? I don’t care too much about the alarm siren, but remote start would be nice.

Remote start will be a different unit that will have some additional wiring.

My RS3000 doesn't work well and my one remote isn't working well either and i think i would rather just replace it with actually new stuff.

The viper has some serious range and it still does the door auto unlock when you shut off. You can also tinker around to get things just the way you like them. Right now I am trying to get the oem pezzo to be my confirmation sounds which I will figure out once I get some time. Something I that would be more difficult without the adapter.

I only went with the adapter because my stock alarm started messing up... I knew I was going to need to build a harness or and adapter myself. It's more of a when than an if I think for a lot of us.

I still have a couple of these. The advantage of the viper or other aftermarket alarm (imo anyway) is the range of the remote. My rs3000 had basically no range. Most aftermarket alarms will work. The instructions are written around the Vipers alarms, but most aftermarket alarms are very similar.

I also made a 3d printed case for this at some point that I probably should have shared here previously:

I am interested. How to buy and do you still need pin outs? 1996 LX450.

I will be installing an after market alarm once my LX450 is back on the road. I rather not have someone steal my LX450 after putting in hundreds of hours in restoring and LS swapping it.
